Asuka Langley Soryu from Eva. Poor girl hasn't been loved or wanted her entire life, so she uses hostility to hide her insecurities. You can't help but feel terrible for her :( |

Male? Takasu Ryuuji. No question. We were both misunderstood in high school. People were afraid to approach me because I looked intimidating, I guess? The people who knew me knew better. Otherwise, it wasn't so bad. I can also cook and clean like a boss. Female? Due to similar interests in food, money and moral values, I'd say Lina Inverse. I also, despite my arrogance and sarcastic demeanor, really do try to keep others best interests in mind. But I don't blow people up on a whim. |

Shinobu Sensui. While I don't have multiple personalities, I'm still very multidimensional. Moreover, like Sensui, I also find myself often disgusted with humankind as a whole. |

Forgetfulness said: Mizutani Shizuku because of her attitudes toward working (especially studying) and socializing. Although a little less extreme It's funny you say that because personality wise I'm actually like Haru Yoshida. I was even going to state this when I saw the topic. Outwardly I look menacing, but in reality I'm a laid back type of guy who at times get hotheaded. I even dated someone like Shizuka once. This is probably why I loved the series so much. I'd say with my view point of the world It'd be more accurate to say I'm like hikigaya hachiman, but with haru's easy going demeanor. |

Hmmm... maybe Luffy , because he is always happy , but when you hurt his friends he will bet you to death :D Or Misaki from Kaichou wa maid-sama , because even if she doesn't say , she wants someone to save her from the secret :3 Or Izaya from Durarara , because I like to play with people's mind . On the other side , I think I relate with Inuyasha when he comes in today world :)) Or them all in one person :3 |

This is an interesting topic, and I hope more people will post some explanations along with the names. For me, there are a few possibilities, and these two are the best I can think of at the moment. The first is the protagonist, Nozomu, from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. He is a pessimist who is always in despair, and he is an insightful social critic. I'm not as pessimistic as he is, and I'm certainly not suicidal, but I can relate to him. Many aspects of society frequently leave me in despair, and I like to complain about them. Nozomu speaks to the cynic in me. Yumi from Maria-sama ga Miteru is a character to whom I became very strongly attached. She starts out like many do when entering a new situation - in this case, high school - wide-eyed and innocent, lacking in confidence, but eager for new experiences. Throughout the series, she grows stronger and more confident. In a way, she represents an ideal of what I think I should be, but I am far too cynical to follow her path. However, in watching her, I feel like a proud mother watching her daughter grow up. I've never wanted children, and it takes a lot to awaken the dormant maternal instinct in me, but Yumi somehow accomplishes this feat. |

Reposting from a different thread, but it's all so true! ^^ Mami Tomoe - surprise! But seriously, it freaks me out. Like someone took fantastic notes while stalking me, then turned me into an anime character. I *love* teaching, nurturing, and protecting, am tired of my current line of work, really hate being lonely, am easily distracted by emotions (especially making a new friend), am exceptionally prone to "survivor's guilt", and love tea more than most people should. In my favorite scene of hers, she saved a woman from jumping off of a building, then so gently calmed her down after. In the "Other Story" manga, she is so kind when she finds an injured Kyoko. No blame for contracting with Kyubey so quickly either; if I was dying I would have done the same... I want to be that kind and caring! ^^ |

Yuki Sohma (the manga version of him) from Fruits Basket: There were so many incidents where Yuki was tortured by the verbal abuse he was surrounded by. He turned out to be this lonely individual who was seeking a place where he belonged. His loneliness was something I understood because his own thought process was his Achilles Heel. He was so caught up in what others would think, that he couldn't fully understand and accept himself. I was so surprised that a manga-ka could create a character that had the same emotions I had. Also, Nagase Iori from Kokoro Connect: Though she kept regressing and progressing as a character, I really enjoyed how she stopped thinking about relationships, and friendships to focus on who she was. My identity is something I struggle with. I don't know who I am, and I guess discovering it is the biggest priority of my life at the moment. |

The anime character who I relate to the most is satou tatsuhiro from welcome to the nhk because I used to and sometimes still have the same mindset as him I was very untrusting of other people and very doubtful like him a had these crazy conspiracies about other people I didn't have a nhk to blame it on so that made me more paranoid I'm not really like that anymore but I still have those thoughts in the back of my mind IT'S A CONSPIRACY PEOPLE |

Ikari Shinji. We're all Shinji. Kyon. Super observant and critical about stuff but secretly like it. Some instances with Tomoko in Watamote. Really socially awkward moments in my life and being unnecessarily anxious with certain situations. |

Kikyo. I totally understand the pain and suffering she had to go through in her life and even after death she had to suffer. I never really liked characters in the anime who were always so cold to others. But Kikyo is the first character that I adored so much even though she is so cold and doesn't open up to anyone about her feelings. It really hurts when you're emotionally wounded. That is what happened to Kikyo and I can totally relate myself to her in my current situation. |

Kasuga Takao. Especially from episode 10. I can relate to almost all of it. We're empty inside. We can't love like a normal human being. I can't figure out my personality, or do I even have one? but I can relate with him the most. The other chars that I can relate to are Kuroko Tomoki and Izumi Konata. |

Watching Death Note I realised that I shared a scary amount of habits with L. The way he sits and the way he seems to be trying to keep his feet warm by fondling them against each other are only two examples. I can also associate with Vegeta as he is depicted in Dragonball Abridged, as I seem to have a friend with whom I have a "Vegeta-Nappa Relation". Not to mention Germany from Hetalia, I almost consider it identity theft. |
