Somehow but not entirely. Sweden is a national state, unlike the US, India or any other colonialist creation. My nationality is a mix of both the ethnicity and citizenship. "Jus soli" - I feel strong ties to the land (geographic area) itself. In the way you see that you belong to the german people, I would say that I am scandinavian. Lately, being swedish is more in the sense of having citizenship in Sweden in recent years, rather than to do with ethnicity. Interesting, because I view "Nationality" as a Mix of Ethnicity and national Identity in the Sense of belonging to a specific People, rather than to a specific geographical Place and/or to a political and juridical Entity such as a (National) State. Hmm, I can easily see a common Scandinavian People being eventually created, however, the Percentage of People with Germanic Blood or from other nearby, indigenous People could sink that much drastically due to Naturalization of Citizens with other Ethnic, Immigrant Backgrounds, so that having a typical "Nordic" Look would become less and less likely for the typical Scandinavian over the Course of multiple Generations. |
