If it's a 24 episode series, I wonder what they're gonna do for part 2. since gun gale will probably cover the same amount of episodes as SAO and alfheim, but alicization is a lot longer and I'm pretty sure it isn't even finished yet.

I doubt it will end like this.

And I doubt they will animate MR in SAO II.The most we will see is the Caliber arc since it is between GGO and MR.THe other SS are the Murder case, which was already animated and First Day.I dont think they would decide to give Kirito the development he needed in the Aincrad arc,NOW.

When I'm depressed, I love to watch SAO, and then a lot a Bleach.

It's probably the only beverage that goes together with it.

My god, what I find the most annoying is people who say "Oh I'm going to laugh through this whole series because of how terrible it is" or "I guess I'll give it a shot." Like.. seriously? How many anime are there that you can just laugh at how terrible it is? In fact, was the first season REALLY so terrible that it was laughable? As for the people who are going to "give it a shot" or "don't have the time," what the hell are you guys going to spend your time doing? You guys are reading a thread about a show you're all bashing on when you could have finished like 3 episodes of another anime already. You all have 20 minutes a week to sit down and watch GGO. You can cut out 20 minutes of your sleep schedule if you work from sun up to sun down or are in school for that long, which isn't even possible really. Anyone who tries to justify that they don't please just leave. Either just don't watch it or spend 20 minutes watching the show which is probably more productive than something else you would have done with that time instead.

Yeah. Let's just tell people what they should and shouldn't watch right?

To do that they have to animate almost half of AL:Beginning as well.
So that means 3.5 volumes(a bit more with Caliber).Yeah I saw what happened last time they tried....Then again I doubt their concern is the quality of the adaptation.

i mean 1 novel =1 season(12-13 episodes)

would they include mother's rosario and the part where they got excalibur in ALO ?

Sword Art Online and Fairy Dance were each 2 volumes, each volume being 6-7 episodes. Phantom Bullet is 2 volumes which is also 12-13 episodes total. Mother's Rosario was 1 volume and thus too short. Mother's Rosario would be better as a movie.

They didnt have a hook in season1 and everything turned out fine.

How about they just focus on Shino, who is a monologue beast, and Kirito and his
instead of jumping around with no clear development?

What we know: The complete GunGameOnline arc will be covered.
Possible: Mother Rosario as a movie then have 24 episodes dedicated for Phantom Bullet [Because of how much is covered]
Slim chance:
They might make Season 2 bigger. Who knows.....

Very excited for this and the Fate remake this year. One thing I will never understand is how much hate this series has garnered. I mean, I don't consider myself an otaku by any means but I have definitely seen a solid amount of prominent anime over the years and have found so many more god awful travesties worth bashing on. SAO is one of the most enjoyable series I have watched, along with Angel Beats, Fate: Zero and Mirai Nikki. I have used this series to introduce friends to anime and every one of them has loved it except for my brother who loves Naruto and therefore his opinion is void. The funny part is that most of the people who hate on SAO turn around and have some obscure hipster anime or weird fetish anime listed as their favorite. Sometimes, and JUST sometimes, you aren't cool because you like something unpopular. Sometimes you just have bad taste lol. But just thought I'd set this rant down in here for some input :)

They did not have it because they were relatively playing it safe. No one knew whether the show would tank or sell shitloads. IF it tanked, the ending of SAO first season would work decently as series ending. Now they will most likely be far more daring - Extra Edition OVA already ended with a sort-of-cliffhanger.

They might do that. Frankly I see both situations as possible. The "Cliffhanger" I m talking about obviously has far bigger punch. I partially dread on HOW they would implement it though, but I have almost no doubts they would.

Geez, now I remember why I never go on the MAL forums. It's full of such pretentious people.

When it all comes down to it, we all watch anime, so who really gives a crap on whether someone's an "anime hipster" or "mainstream watcher"?

I personally enjoyed the first season and am looking forward to this next one, but I can totally see why some people find a crapload of flaws and problems in this series. However, the excessive trolling on this show in particular can get pretty annoying at times. Same with Shingeki.

Hello, "anime hipster" reporting for duty :D
Love SAO, love SnK, love most anime (except for what they did to the 2nd IS series.. as some ppl have already mentioned)

Let's make this simple:

  • SAO was a massive financial success.
  • The already high budget it received for the previous season will probably not be reduced, but rather increased.
  • High Budget = High Production Value
  • High Production Value = Good music, Good sound effects, Good artwork, Good VAs, etc...

These factors make up a lot of an anime, and so even if we disregard the story, the anime will inevitably be spectacular imo

Kind of like how Guilty Crown was for me. Hated the MC and the story, but still had to watch it because of the nice artwork, effects, and music(Yes, I am talking about My Dearest by Supercell, and in the end had to admit that it was a good anime, although it may have been "bad" compared to the funding it got.

Anyways, I'm loving all this debate and hype :D
Haterz, please continue to hate. You guys make SAO at least twice more entertaining for me!

Cheers

Oh btw, I really love the OP songs and soundtracks for SAO. i hope they keep it up..

hmm.. apparently the video embed still doesn't work (thought they'd have fixed it by now)
These are the songs I'm talking about:

Innocence by Aoi Eir

Swordland by Yuki Kajiura

Totally agree with what you said there. The only characters I liked was Inori in Guilty Crown and Sinon from GGO.
Guilty Crown had so much potential, it's as if the producers purposely trolled the viewers! D:

Seriously though, just because something has a ton of money being poured into it doesn't automatically make it good. You'd get what some call the FFXIII syndrome (or polished turd). Looks pretty, sounds great, too bad everything else that matters is terrible.

Sometimes I think it's a waste when that quality could've been used in a better written work. See avatar.

Why don't you go into more detail about why Naruto sucks while a shitty and illogical series filled with plotholes like Mirai Nikki is so great

Whoa, not sure where all the hate is coming from, I see NO element of hypocrisy in any of my opinions. The only claim I made was that in comparison, Naruto is much more of a train wreck than SAO. If that is hypocritical than it is your own opinion that makes it so. Because in my opinion, SAO is much better/more enjoyable. I also did not question why there are haters of anime in general, I was specific in questioning the hate of SAO. Therefore, anyone who finds that hypocritical simply misread or misinterpreted my point. Naruto is awful because it is highly formulaic (as most shounen tend to be, so I guess I am not a fan of shows that take 300+ episodes to effectively go nowhere at all), not even focused on the MC (Sasuke seems to get everything cool), and full of unnecessary filler. Again, all my opinion, but each episode in the first arc of SAO spends valuable time giving insight to the emotional development of the protagonists or providing detail as to the type of world SAO has become (and the various ways the gamers have embraced/learned to cope with it).
Mirai Nikki, once again in my opinion, more than makes up for its plot holes by delivering a premise and twist ending that frankly is rarely seen in anime I have watched.
SnK is great as well, no complaints there. Except I do wish it wasn't as slow paced in the middle of the series.

Well I'll definitely be giving it a shot. Even if the first series kind of fell flat for most everyone toward the end, I still had a fun time watching it.

Such hypocrisy. You have pretty much described exactly what you're doing right now

I'll remain hopefull even though the first season wasn't good. Who knows, maybe it will be amazing.......I'll keep moderate expectations. Definitely will watch it for the sake of sake.

I can see you

Please, tell me this kid isn't serious...
You're basically saying it's okay to hate a show you don't like but it's not okay to hate on a show you like.
Look here son, that's not how the world work.

You are entitled to your opinion but in the end of the day it's still only your opinion. Someone could say that Naruto is better than your most favorite show and his arguments could be way more sound and solid than yours, that's a reality you have to face. In the end everyone is entitled to what they like and their judgment will be based on these likes. If it bother you how people perceive what you like then for everyone's sake do not come on a discussion board acting like everyone should be aknowledging your opinion.

Money invested in a show isn't directly equal to good production values.

Let me ask you : What is good and what is bad? Actually you don't have to tell me because it'll end up being your opinion.
You see, art has no real objective values and what is good is what you are looking for while experiencing it. This also means that something that is good for someone might be bad for another and vice versa.

Those that created the anime you are watching influenced it with their perspective of what is good and what is bad, they basically gave it the shape they wanted it to have. You might end up liking it (or parts of it) like you might end up disliking it but it stay your opinion.

Saying that the musics of a show will be better if they invested more into it is pretentious. The money invested only gives the author more freedom about how to compose his creation but in the end he will compose something you will or not like. Throwing more money into it will not create something you or other people will enjoy, it's usefull to give more leeway to the compositor but it's nothing else than that.

As for arts it's similar yet a little more touchy but in the end it remains a question about taste.
Just like music the way the scenes are handled and the focus in each of them will differ from one artist to another. Two people will never interpret the same scene in the exact same way and this will vastly affect your opinion on it.
Studios never have enough money to perfectly animate their anime, they have to cut at some place and that's what is key. Except in very extreme case you will see yourself liking a series better for how it manages to deal with those flaws rather than it's actual quality. Some directors prefer to be cheap on scenes that aren't the focus of the show while using a lot of the budget in important moments (like Shingeki no Kyojin did) while other show decide to be more consistant and separate the budget in a more seemly fashion. There are also other alternative for this.

In the end it still comes down to what you prefer seeing.

Rinse and repeat for everything that compose the anime you're watching and that's why in the end I beleive more money doesn't mean that a show will be any 'better' than another.
