And the world will not end this year. It will be in 203x.

I am sure...

I personally knew a guy who believed it. Now he has gone somewhere to California, wonder what will happen if he gets disappointed by the end of this year.

I know one thing for sure on December 22 a lot of people will be saying "I told you so." Could go any way we could all be fine or we can all die. Nobody know. The day is coming when we all will die and this world will be destroyed and that is a fact. It could be 12-21-12 or it could be tomorrow or a year from now or a billion years from now. But it will happen for sure some day. It's just a big waiting game. Odds are nothing will happen and life will go on but I am sure the dinosaurs though the same thing the day they went extinct.

If it is fact that we are all going to die soon, could you please link me where you are getting your facts from. Eventually we all may die, but probably not until everyone posting here is dead, and their children are dead, and their children's children are dead.. In fact are race may never die. Do you have proof to say otherwise?

You clearly did not understand what I was trying to say. People are not immortal and we all will die eventually. That is the say life works. Here is your link that says eventually all life on this planet will be extinct. Granted it might be 7.5 billion years for now but its going to happen eventually. http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/earth/earth_timeline/future_earth

I didn't miss your point at all.. How do you know that we wont be able to create an artificial sun, eventually? Or solve all are natural weather problems. You said you were basing your opinion off fact, when in fact there is no proof to say that we will not be able to prevent us from ever being extinct as well as prevent the world from being destroyed. That link you provided only states that the sun will eventually burn out, it doesn't say that we are going to be incapable of creating an artificial one by the time it burns out. Nor does it say that we won't be able to do space travel by that time, to a place that does have a working sun and is inhabitable. Or that we won't be able to find a way to be immortal.

The sun is going to engulf this entire planet and the seas will boil away and the continents will evaporate into nothing. The earth will be destroyed. Use half a bit of common sense. We will not be creating an artificial sun. Humanity will perish, nothing lasts forever. And even if we do manage to achieve faster than light speed travel and move from world to world those planets will also meet there ends eventually. You can not escape it.

Or you could entirely ignore everything I said, whatever. That far in the future(When the sun starts to have issues), anything is possible. I am using common sense, there is nothing that proves to me that we won't be able to overcome all these issues, that far in the future. It is a very VERY VERY VERY, long time away. Anything is possible, to think that are end is guaranteed is ignorant. Especially if you are trying to say it is fact, when in fact there is nothing that proves this. Especially considering we haven't even begun to grasp how large the universe is. The universe is so vast, if we do achieve light speed travel we could jump around infinitely.

Like I said, you are saying this is fact, when in fact there is nothing that proves what you are saying.

Perhaps you will be able to build a time machine and find out for sure, but until then don't say that it is fact.

Yeah, I doubt the world will end in 2012.

But if it does, I hope the Earth blows up in a really cool way.

I think if time travel is possible it would have already been done. Also what about other planets which we can live on? The population might shrink a lot, but become a moving one.

Also, what does everyone here think about life on different planets?

With how big the universe is,only a dumba.......I mean, ignorant people would think it's impossible for there to be life on other planets.

With ongoing discoveries in exoplanet research, it's now theorized that maybe half of all stars in the galaxy have planets orbiting them. Of the hundreds of exoplanets that have been found, a couple are located in their sun's Goldilocks zone. If our observations are a fair approximation to everything else out there, that means that a fraction of 1% of stars have a planet that MIGHT support life as we know it. Basically, in the last ten years, we've finally gotten enough hard figures to plug into part of the Drake Equation, giving us roughly a billion potential worlds in the Milky Way alone.

Unfortunately, we lack the rest of the elements of Drake's Equation, most importantly the likelihood that life can arise independently. But, as interferometry technology improves, we'll be able to figure out the composition of the planetary atmospheres. In fact, one atmosphere has already been catalogued. It's around an inhospitable star in an inhospitable orbit and it's been found, as expected, to have an inhospitable atmosphere. But the cool thing is that it was actually done.

And these are the requirements for life as we know it. We have no idea what various forms biochemistry can take, since we so far only have one point of reference. But, even if we do limit ourselves to what we know, we've got a billion places where we can possibly look.

tl;dr version: Yes, life probably exists on other worlds and we're not far from finding evidence of it.
Somewhere, there is an unplugged toaster sitting on a Coleman stove.

Does it feel lonely?
