if you don't like post counts, just get rid of the number all together...nobody recognizes you based on your post count, they recognize you based on your name, avatar and sig.

Not strictly true. A post count can help show how long somebody has been around, or how much they have participated in discussion. Unfortunately spam makes the number worthless as people can make a thousand posts a week there.

Still, removing the display might help lessen the pain of the e-peen castration some (many?) have suffered. Or as I suggested in the other thread, stick post count on the profile, and convert to rank based user titles for forum display. And still don't count club or spam posts toward it. Since they shouldn't reflect a user's activity.

Activity should be coherent, worthwhile discussion and participation, not random nonsense, counting, mashing the keyboard or the likes.

And club count has to be removed from the equation, again, as I said in the other thread, because people spam it up in clubs too. They're unmoderated (at least by site staff) and can be made on a whim, so it'd be just as easy for people to go make spam clubs to use as e-viagra.

I don't agree with separate numbers for them. It's meaningless data to track.

Nice work. But apparently, I haven't lost any posts. Oh, I lost 6 posts. XD oO People should go for more quality over quantity. Having a ginormous amount of posts doesn't mean you're good at anything, excluding spamming. =x

Looks like a good implementation to me. As for the club posts not being counted, it makes perfect sense. All these people getting pissed off about the spam forum not counting any more would simply abuse the club forums as a loophole.

i see your frustration asako, but activity will never be all coherent, worthwhile discussion and participation.

people will get bored and will start goofing about on the regular forums instead of creating meaningful posts, cause....it's easier to say "i agree", "lol" etc. as a whole post instead of making a couple paragraphs to explain why they agreed or laughed.

i frequent a number of forums and they have spam in them, in some way shape or form.

i like the idea of only having post counts only in your profile, but i still do not like that you want to erase my entire post history (cause nearly all my posts are club posts) because some idiots decided to abuse that part of the forums.

also, i'm saying that club posts are not all meaningless data as i'm here defending my position as a user that spends almost all his time in clubs posting...and if i were to spam, i'd be in the comments part of the club that already doesn't count towards my post count.

hm...apparently i didn't post much in the threads that became dead and were older than 6 months. I don't think I dropped that much. Though once spam doesn't count, I should drop quite a bit. Can't wait to see how much of it was spam.

The majority of clubs (at least, what I've seen) have been constructive in some form or another. To blacklist all of the club posts because some spam clubs exist seems to me to be kind of unequitable to all the non-spam clubs.

So? Post in the general forums a bit more, then. Take part in episode and series discussion, or general debates and the likes. I'll lose some 200 odd (no idea, really. MAL MOE votes, plus my own club) posts, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. But then, I don't care about my post count at all, which is why I'd be just as happy to see it gone all together.

Clubs should never have been considered a part of the forum, anyway. They're private and cliquey. Other club members will know you as an active member, so what does a count matter? The count, if it continues to exist in its current form, should be for the public, open forums, to reflect your level of participation to those new to the forums, or... whatever.

Anyway I don't see why having a high post count matters so much:P
I like posting in spam every now and then, its sometimes fun and its something to do while I'm waiting on an episode to download, but I do know its pretty meaningless and I completely agree that it shouldn't be counted.

I seriously have no idea why I still have so many posts... I stopped using the spam forum about 4 months ago and I was sure that's where most of my posts were from... o_o

(Edit:) As soon as I said that it changed! I lost about 4/5 of my posts. :p

Yeah, I agree with this completely. Everyone always bitches and says that all intro peeps just post in there to up post counts (which 99% do), but SOME people like myself like to give people a warm welcome and don't copy n' paste + would luv them not to count so people will stop bitching. =/ Though, probably will result in less welcomes, I'll still be welcoming 'em probably more now.

Oh well. I use profile comments more than post in the forums anyway (I lurk in the latter >.>). I've never been impressed by high post count anyway.

Clubs could go either way, in my opinion. Count their posts or don't. Just seems like it's getting a bit ridiculous and rigid as to what counts as an actual post and what doesn't.

EDIT: And I only lost about 42 posts anyway. :D

lets see you say the word "welcome" 60K different ways.

also, though im fine with the reduction, i still feel that going all the way would be a better, "clean cut" type of thing

If club posts aren't going to be counted anymore then my post count is going to become even smaller since I really only ever post in clubs....not that my post count is very big anyway. Don't think I ever posted in the spam topics so I don't think I lost any...

But I really don't see what's so great about having a big post count, it wouldn't bother me if the post count was removed.

Well I gotta say I'm kinda glad to see this. I ended up becoming less active with the huge influx of members and before I left there was a "fight" over first to 3000 or 4000 with "little" spam used to simply boost the post count. When I started to come back more I saw tons of people who had post counts over 4000 and quite a number over 5000. I'm not even trying to say that everyone, or even a lot of people did this, but I know that many simply used spam to inflate their post count. It didn't make the site any less awesome though.

So? Far more people disliked the ads, or at least the placement. You completely disregarded them, so disregard the whingers in this thread and don't make club posts count either. It's pointless to remove spam forum counts when there are (and will be more) spam clubs to make up for it.
