Or Madoka Magika, even Code Geass, FMA or Shiki. Hell, even Naruto is much more dramatic than this one dimensional shit. I just try to imagine Menma went to Hell instead of Heaven, that way I feel better, also I hope Jintan killed himself afterwards due to depression, and then the rest lived happily and badmouthing them till the end ahahahah. |

| This anime hit my heart hard. I rarely shed a single tear with anything. Last thing that made me shed a tear was clannad. I teared up and shed a single tear. Ano Hi Mita...made me tear up almost every single episode, and the ending...I actually cried. It surprised me how much it made me cry. What I think was that got me so much from this anime. Is that I could relate to it so much it was scary. In my childhood I too was part of a little club with my neighbors. One of my friend fell into a dried up river with thorns and branches around him, thank god he got out with only bruises and scratches. I couldn't help but think, "What if this had happened to me and my friends?" I was probably just over thinking things, but this anime really connected with me, and got to me in a very emotional, and personal way. I loved it 10/10 I will be adding it to my top 5 for sure :] |

Oosran said: "Boo, I'm so disgusting." "No, I'm disgusting." "I'm the disgusting one!" Suddenly, everyone's disgusting. How disgusting. Hahaha, this made me lol. And it's sooo true too. This anime would've been better if it were 6-8 episodes. It felt way too long-winded later on. And forced drama is forced, they should've handled it more tastefully. |

AnoniMus said: Menma and Jintan are just plain awful. The rets was ok and could be even better, but unfortunantly all their actions and way of living was centered on a dead girl, that's dumb. Specially Poppo, he travelled not for fun, not to meet new countries, but to flee from a dead person. Lame. You're denying to look any further than the surface here, which is unfortunate. Whilst I agree with you on several aspects of this anime not deserving the high and mighty praises lobbed its way, I do think there are strokes of genius at some places. The aim was for the characters, every single one of them, to finally forgive themselves for Menma's death and move on with their respective lives, which is precisely why all their actions and thoughts revolved around Menma. True that Poppo fleed from a dead person, if you want to put it that way, but perhaps you shouldn't ignore the fact that his location of residence does not serve to convince one to stay, seeing as it's the closest 'residential' structure to the lake/river where Menma died. Poppo travelled the world to run away from the memories, only to find himself returning back to where he was. Yukiatsu was good because he hated Jintan, but in the end not surprising he accepted him as a leader (fuck leaders). I won't/can't argue here, because I myself had issues with this. For example, why in the end they all scream Menma? It's just ridiculous. For the same reason a person would scream when a heated iron rod is passed through their eyeballs: pain, loss and despair. |

| Slice-of-life/Drama were once my favorite of all anime genres; I wonder where that went and why it isn't so anymore. But still, this is probably the last time in a long, long while that I'll be dipping my shoes in something like this. Forced drama, characters I just couldn't care for with frustratingly little development, and mediocre presentation. I went into this show expecting to fall in love with the genre again, only for it to reinforce everything I despised about it. The score I listed is far harsher than what it deserves, and I recognize there are points where the show have done well, but since I hate it this much and most everyone else seems to think it was a masterpiece, I don't think it'll do much harm. Real score: 5/10. |

| Wow, what an ending. Where to start. #1) Fireworks pavilion First, little brother, Satou, saying thanks was sweet. It looks like Menma's mom seemed to have an epiphany when the fireworks went off. Maybe she finally realized that if the group put so much effort into doing this that they truly loved Menma and it wasn't some childish stunt to them. The somber looks on their faces afterwards would also lend credence to this fact. She acknowledged Jinta and the group in the end. Maybe her spite for them has finally subsided and that she can finally move on being a mother to Satou. The somber looks on their faces. Well, It wasn't about missing Menma. As we find out soon enough. #2) The Shrine The shrine scene seemed like a confessional of epic proportions. WOW is all I could say. It started with Anaru admitting that she wanted Menma to go to heaven so Jinta would stop looking at her. Jinta sorta knew about her feelings so he wasn't too surprised by it. I do think he was taken aback by how far Anaru had gone in her jealousy. Then Yukietsu. Finally coming clean to everyone that he despised Jintan for being Menma's favorite and that he loved Menma so much that he couldn't bare the thought of Jinta being with her. So his desire was pure spite. This is when things got wild. Tsurumi called Yukietsu dispicable. But Anaru jumped up and defended Yukietsu and telling everyone what Tsurumi confided to her on the bridge. This is what Tsurumi fans have been waiting for. Her big reveal. Tsurumi warned Menma of the plot hatched by Yukietsu and Anaru that day. Menma being her carefree self and saying she loved everyone showed her that there was no hope for Tsurumi and Yukietsu. She was resigned to that fact. She couldn't compete with such a purehearted person like Menma. Yukietsu would always love Menma first and foremost. Then Tsurumi dropped the second bomb. Tsurumi wasn't jealous of Menma; she hated Anaru. Because Anaru was Yukietsu's replacement for Menma. After Menma died she thought she might have a chance again by getting close to Yukietsu. But Tsurumi realized Anaru was the "kindred spirit" that Yukietsu eyed in place of Menma, not her. This sorta make you realize all those scenes where Tsuruko was a bitch towards Anaru was not just because Anaru's actions in regards her friends and Jintan. Tsurumi couldn't stand Anaru because of her being Yukietsu's second favorite. That was a nice revelation right there. The fact that Yukietsu was taken aback by this made you realize he was a stupid knucklehead for not realizing this sooner. But then again he was so focused on Menma he wouldn't notice anything subtle like Tsurumi putting up with his cross-dressing crap. This part is where it got me. I was holding up pretty good until this. Then it was Poppo's turn. That poor kid. He saw Menma dieing. Christ, the pain from that must have been unbearable. And for him to hold it in so long and keep it a secret, yeah that got me good. I was tearing up big time. I'm still tearing up while I write this post just thinking about it. Him wanting to grant Menma's wish so he can make the visions stop. begging on his knees to Jintan like that. Tears were flowing. Everyone was falling apart then. Except Jintan, who realized how wrong he was for wanting Menma to himself. Jintan knew that some of them were suffering. He finally realized how damn bad it was for all of them and he felt a sense of guilt for being somewhat happy to be able to see Menma and not them. He confided this to them. Yukietsu was right in this regard. I was shocked by it. Yukietsu called it. kudos to him on that one. I didn't really understand why Jinta would have felt that way. Jinta had her love why would he want to share it with the rest of them? I guess before that shrine scene that he felt he suffered the most and deserved the privilege. Only to realize this was far from true. They all needed Menma because she was the lynchpin of the group. Her pureness of heart and soul was the person that bound them all together. Either way it worked out in the end. The group wasn't ready to see Menma until the shrine scene anyways. They were finally ready after they came clean about their guilt and transgressions and realized their focus should be about loving and wanting what is best for Menma. The hating stopped and loving Menma began. Then Anaru finally broke the chain of confessing to just plain thinking about Menma. The rest agreed. It was time to focus on Menma. BTW, i don't think Anaru fully meant what she said she was just caught up in the moment. I think she still cares about Jinta. But we'll leave it at that. I think the laughing was a bit much. small chuckles would have been better than the out and out bellowing of all of them. I do think the break in the moment was much needed. Unfortunately for Anaru it was at her expense, again. #3) Jinta's house second time / Bridge Jinta heading home and finding out Menma was fading away was nerve racking. She finally told him the final wish and that it was her mother that came up with it and they conspired to get Jintan to release his feelings or else be swallowed in misery. Then Menma is starting to say goodbye which made Jinta cry. But it was nice the Jinta realized that the group needed these words not just Jinta. The scene where they're rushing to the secret base was heart wretching. Menma still saying goodbye thoughts. Jinta begging her to hold on and telling her he loved her and wanted to be with her forever. Damn that made me tear up again. #4) The secret base scene Then they get to the base and he can't see her no more. I mean WTF if it wasn't dramatic enough. Smart thinking on Menma's part where she tells Jinta to play hide and seek. She needed time to write the letters to them. This is the part where I think people started to complain about the melodrama being a bit weird and over the top. I think the moment fit perfectly. They were all kids again finally discarding the "adult" emotions that had torn them apart that fateful day and throughout the years after Menma passed. I think their only concern was Menma now and if they were being childishly silly, then so be it. They finally believed in Jinta again and Menma wanted one last game of hide and seek. Damnit, they were going to play hide and seek. #5) The tree scene. The final scene was pure emotion. The gift of a final letter to each of them made me tear up again. They finally got the message they needed. Menma still loved each and every one of them. Then after more words from Jinta about not finishing hide and seek. They saw her glowing in the rising sun. I'm downpouring teardrops now. I get the screaming and playing hide and seek thing was kind of goofy. But as I said before they were like kids again. They even acknowledged that with a semi flashback scene where they're chanting at Jinta for making Menma cry. They were the same as they were when they were all together as they were as children. Sometimes you just get caught up in the moment. Menma's final farewell was sweet. "She's going to be reincarnated" so she can play with them all again. (Note: Anjou and Jinta start making babies, Menma wants to come back) Then the final chant "they found Menma" and she disappears. What an ending. #6) the epilogue scenes. Things looked promising. but nothing was certain. Jinta finally returned the pink hanky to Anjou. Oh god, not the slut twins. another ruined moment, AGAIN. But I guess there's some hope there on that front. Tsuruko was awesome in her scene. She was almost playful. It was sweet. Yukietsu looks like he might be warming up to her now that he's moved on. Poppo hitting the books. I guess he can finally stop thinking about that day now that he has a more pleasant final moment with Menma shining before them at that tree. ##) Final thoughts. I agree that the ending felt a bit rushed. But I also understand the time constraints anime Companies are put through. It can't be perfect all the time. I cut them some slack in that regards. Maybe in the BD/DVDs they can make a prolonged final episode that slows it all down a bit and gives the scenes more room to breathe. We'll see. I'm not going to dock them too much over it. To me this series is still worthy of a 10. |

Maybe something with a really soft voice over from Jintan and with a white background which has the words displaying like "I love you, farewell"... but still so sad :( It pisses me off to read some people laughed at the end/can online be negative about the anime, haters should just gtfo... it's such a good, sweet and sad anime... 9/10 ~ |

| Brilliant. Easily the best anime of 2011 so far. It is a tragic story of people who are flawed, people who are broken, people who are -human-. How long has it been since I have believed that these characters are human, oh far too long. I don't think anything in the next 6 months will be able to topple AnoHana as the best anime of 2011 for me. |

| i think this is the closest i ever got to crying. but damn, i dont even know what to say; except, that's what i call an ending Edit: Ok, I regained a bit of my composure. I have to disagree with the guy who said the part where Yukiatsu said 'go get her, leader', was not forced. That felt like the most bs line coming from him but I guess I just wasn't happy he had such a sudden change of heart. However, this episode portrayed Jinta as truly the leader. Right at the forefront, bearing the most pain of them all, and doing what was right. Good job tiger. The beginning bothered me slightly, it was purely a bunch of people sulking, which was understandable; they had 10 years worth of bottled up emotions which is finally being let out. Well another tear jerker amongst the great Aria, Clannad, and Ef. This anime did what Ef did, create deep attachments with the characters with such little given time. I love how literally 2 seconds before the ending came on, I was like, 'this would be an awesome time for the ending', and then bam, here goes the emotional roller coaster. I gave this a 10 but I feel I should be more conservative with my ratings nowadays (that said, I need to fix many of the old ones), but I think this might just keep the 10. It doesn't feel like a masterpiece, but it's definitely not just 'great'; it's definitely something more. And did Anaru and Jinta transfer to Yukiatsu/Tsuroko's school? Or is the blue just there winter uniform. Actually nevermind, they didn't transfer cause those two friends of Anaru are still there. The flower is the 'forget-me-not', how suiting. I do also agree that it would be even more suitable to have an epilogue with them 10 years down the road, it would make the ending feel more nostalgic. Well it's also true that this ending hints and nudges at their future and it's good to see that they've made immediate changes to their lifestyles. This anime had a simple core subject, but they explored it very well. I'm impressed and this is definitely one of my favourites (finally knocking Nodame Cantabile out of the list... but maybe that's cause it's been so long that I don't even remember what was so great about it). I have no idea how anybody can even request for more details (i.e. how she died... seriously?). They gave plenty of background information on each character, how Memma affected each individual, and what their role was in the Super Buster group. And yes, I edit this as I go through some of the comments in this thread, because some people just demand the unnecessary. |

| This is great! The best episode is the last episode. I didn't really cry in the course of the show but the ending just killed me. When they all started crying, I was bawling, especially with Menma's message. I felt like the other episodes were dragged on too long. But I guess it had an effect on me because when everyone just started confessing, crying and yelling, it was hard not to cry. Also, I expected a kiss when he was holding onto her...oh well. The series was great overall. I would give it a 9/10 as a whole but the ending is 10/10 :) |

But if you want indisputable animes that almost everyone can agree that is better than this take Madoka Magika :) Or in this season Steins Gate, pretty cool so far, and I heard the second part is more focused on history/drama. Also Kaiji, I haven't see it yet, I'm waiting till it ends because it's so addicting, but i bet it's really good (at least the 1st season was). And Gintama, but that won't end in 2011. Couldn't disagree more. In Ef you have a beggining, a development and an ending, which make you feel something for the characters. Here you don't have thatt, they throw the characters since the beggining with their problems, it felt too much one dimensional. And Clannad even worse to compare, it had an entire first season to develop relationships and then bang. |

| Absolutely spectacular. This has been the anime that touched me the most so far. It's so deep, so rich, so touching... Menma's wish, the love polygon, each main character "steryotype" developed and getting stronger and stronger... And the bond between them. The most beautiful thing in this anime is the bond between the six. Almost made me cry. Absolute 10/10. And people say there are no good anime nowadays... |

Come on, too much crying and screaming for only a girl, too much "oh my god im a bad person menma is wonderful menma is god lets cry more were disgusting and selfish". I was going to give it a 9, but I started to feel bad about giving the same score I gave to Tatami Galaxy and Madoka, so I lowered it to 8, which would be like Angel Beats!. |

| after 2 pages, im think im observing a pattern here to help me write-off anohana... Pros: Main characters with various personalities (super peace busters) Very simple but effective storyline (how to move on from trauma) A logical conclusion (menma's ascension leading to revelations and reconciliations) Proficient art and character detail (a notch equal to kannagi) The emotional rollercoaster was well represented (moodswings and crossdressings :D) Cons: The music and the insert songs (not convincing enough to support such a decent drama situation) Forced drama (too much shallow tears) Inadequate details about the supporting characters (no depth and focus from jintan and menma's parents), which could have been vital for the story progress, oh jintan's dad was such a cool and calm guy ;) Not enough character development (after such a 10yr timeskip) A very climactic, yet forgettable, "forget-me-not" ending (It's sad that menma ended up reincarnating as a flower; yes she was, isn't it? oh and i know what menma wrote in the wood: super peace busters are friends forever, yeah forever insignificant) and people really forgot the essence of jintan's mom, there was no sympathy from her even from jintan himself. He looks more traumatized to menma, whose intention to return was simple: to fulfill a wish from jintan's mother and nothing deeper than it...thus all these factors led to my satisfactory grade, on par with Air TV by comparison (and misuzu was way long ago in 2005) anymore things to write-off guys? pardon me again for such an expectation, maybe my standards for anime got so high from watching too much CLANNAD ~AS~ XD |

| Seriously how could you not cry during this episode...I didn't break down until Poppo revealed his secret...that one tore me up I like the ending they went with instead of skipping ahead in time of some Memma stays there while everyone can see her crap...even if it was expected, I felt it was done really nicely especially with that ending song and Jintan going crazy...that was amazing This show is easily a 10 and hella just broke into my favorites list...Menma |

| Uggggh I cried. ;A; Great series! I think it started really strong but lost a bit of steam towards the end (agree about the forced drama). Definitely one of my favourite anime this season though! :) The only thing I must pick on is the art/animation - it reeeeally went downhill a few eps back. I remember episode 1 being gorgeous so I'm pretty sad about that! They didn't even have a faces at times during long shots (i.e. far away shots) like when Poppo was having his breakdown moment... Wonder if they retouch DVD version like T&B! |

| Haha yes I cried too. Even if the ending wasn't as good as some people wanted it to be, I don't think people can stop themselves from crying to it. Again props to the voice actor for displaying their talent in conveying emotions. In hindsight I think we all knew from the start that for this series to end "well", Menma would have to appear before everyone and say goodbye to them. It did happen as expected but there isn't really an explanation as to why everyone could see her for that last moment. But perhaps most of us were too busy crying at the time to care. For 11 eps this was pretty good. My only thumbs down is at all the weird triangle relationships that were going on. It was a pentagon really, and Popo was the only one left out haha! |

| I think most of us can agree that this was the best anime of the Spring season. The ending was absolutely perfect for the series. The only complaint is that the series was too short. |

| I told myself I wouldn't cry, but I totally bawled! D: The ending was perfect. Couldn't have asked for more. I am glad it was a 11 episode anime as that's only the amount of episodes it needed. 9/10 is still my rating. |

| It was a very dramatic ending, yet it wasn't an embarassing one. Good job. |
