Good adventure anime?

I'm looking for a good adventure anime with some romance/close friendships and comedy elements in it. It would be better if one character was really serious and "anti-fun", another was the opposite of this being very easy going and friendly. It would also be great if a form of magic was involved, ranging from actual spells to magic monsters.Now I know that is basically what shonen anime is but I don't know if that sums up some of the big four (Bleach, Naruto, one Piece, and fairy Tail) since I haven't watched any of those yet, I am about to start Fairy Tail though. I am also trying to find ones that don't include the characters screaming their powers at every fight scene, but yeah that's excepted I guess.

And unrelated to that, I'm also looking for some good steampunk anime. The only one I sort of know would be Full Metal Alchemist/FMA:B.

Oh and lastly, I'm looking for an anime in any genre that has strong influences of, and/or is set in ancient Asia (any time before electricity actually).

I really hope you have seen Avatar: The Last Airbender because I feel like I just read a wish list for it. And I don't care if it's not anime, whatever, it's on Netflix.

Even though you say you don't want one with characters screaming their powers. One Piece is probably one of the best if not the best adventure anime, it's not all focused on fighting. The world building and going on adventures is great.

Avatar: TLA is actually the reason why I got into anime, and where post of my interests come from. :P

I really wanted to start One Piece, but the length is quite daunting. plus it's on-going so it's gonna get even longer. Not that i don't like long series' or anything.

One Piece is the best adventure you'll ever see

"The world god only knows" fits the bill perfectly, though they don't really travel out of the city.

Lots of laughs and romance

"Zero no Tsukaima" also fits as well, though the female is a tsundere and the protagonist isn't that closed minded, yet its a great watch.

Lots of adventure, lots of laughs, lots of romance, modest amounts of action

katanagatari (dialogue driven action adventure) its about an mc whoes father was banned o an island, and he learnt from his father a material art (1 day a tactican comes to his island to seek help from him, to collect 12 legendary swords) so they go on a journey to collect these 12 swords, mc is very cold and sees himself as a sword and the girl as his owner, so he kills on order)

Another good one is The Familiar of Zero (zero no tsukaima) its not in ancient asia but it has everything else that you are looking for. Only the first season is dubbed but its still great!
