Cause in America, society doesn't care.

Hmm.. We have a guy asking why cosplay cafe's are only popular in Japan and we have a guy answering like that. Damn, why to you American people do that? Then you will object when we throw the stereotype in your face.

The problem with cosplay and or maid cafe's is it is like walking into the adult video rental section or picking up a porn mag. Anyone looking immediately figures 'freak/pervert/sicko likely plans to immediately go and jack off watching/looking at the stuff.

Maid cafe's being a peculiarity of a slice of society often written off as 'weird' is not going to get cut much slack.

On another forum off site, a conversation is going on about a restaurant no longer being allowed to use largely nude waitresses in Montreal. The thing is, how many people would YOU know, would prefer a breakfast served by a naked girl? How many would be in a situation where that would even be an option. Not likely to be family friendly, nor spouse friendly. Some also just object to the place existing at all.

Sometimes a business has to operate in a world that doesn't like them even being around.

There is likely less stigma here for topless adult girl cafe's than maid cafe's featuring properly dressed yet teenage girls. Because there is nothing 'weird' about men liking looking at the tits of adult women, but they would think grown men making a fuss over teenage girls is sick.
While not technically anime, currently I am a big fan of Hatsune Miku.
At least I can go see her in concert.

Also, I've just thought about this, but I wonder about whether you could actually get some attractive girls to work there, since the girls themselves will probably be scared of working in a place where they have to dress up like a cat and say Nya~ since it's not a part of their culture.

Why do you people think that all maids in maid cafes say nya..? lol And anyways, There are always tons of cute girls willing to work at a maid cafe for fun. It's not some depraved creepy place you seem to believe it is. Theres a wandering maid cafe here in Cali that follows cons and hosts occasional events throughout the year and those girls are really cute and have fun doing it.

Okay, I admit my experience of the cosplay cafes doesn't exist. Anyway, social stigma doesn't look at anime related things well, if these potential workers found out they;d be working for a cafe aimed at "creepy hentai watchers" then they might not do it. Anime isn't exactly viewed in a positive light in popular culture in most countries (if not all).

I like to be optimistic, myself. Even though I'm irrevocably considered the gloomy guy.

The anime convention I've gone to in the past had something similar to that. A wandering cafe, though they were apparently stiff about a lot of stuff.

because some over zelous fans or haters would go a tad overboard in the States and cause a huge commotion causing the death of the American anime industry as we know it if was the Midwest or the Bible belt . Of course that's the worst case scenario.
Everything comes full circle eventually.
