I feel like I'm the only person who was expecting - and enjoyed - this ending.
TBH, if ANYTHING else had happened, I wouldn't have been satisfied. If Sebastian had eaten Ciel's soul, it would either be too repetitive of S1, or pale in contrast. If he hadn't, and things had just continued, it would have been too open ended.

So I think this was an appropriate ending, and I'm already excited for the next season. (assuming there will be one.)

EDIT: although it does make me sad how coldly Ciel is treating our poor Sebby ;u;

Wahhh! I know what you mean. OTL
I'm with you here, so no worries.

I feel like the key here is 'everyone's a critique.'
What if it had ended a different way?
What if they had left it at the first season, when everyone RAEGED over that ending too?
What if ect ect.
Any way you put it, people are going to be displeased about something or another.

I feel like I'm the only one who actually enjoyed this second season. :'D;;

Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one : D

Now I'm going to end up spending the rest of the weekend drawing Demon!Ciel fanart *u*

Wow is all I have to say. At the beginning of the series I was like, "Where is this series going?" I guess I'm in the minority (maybe), but I loved the ending and I'm a manga reader. I loved the set up! I actually like the fact that Hannah's intentions were pure and selfless as opposed to Sebastian and Claude. I love the fact that neither butler got what they wanted in the end. I enjoyed the twisted ending, and imo, neither butler deserved their meals after the way they carried on.

I was glad that Alois was able to die happy and be reunited with his brother, too.

The only thing I hate is the fact that we didn't get to see the other characters much outside of Claude, Sebastian, Hannah, Ciel, and Alois, but, getting down to it, the Phantomhive staff and all the other characters (minus Grell and the other reapers, of course) really had no place in this season's storyline.

All in all, I'd rank this season at maybe an... 8.5/10. I enjoyed the twists and turns, I liked Hannah's role as the series went on, she just wasn't someone to be abused (seriously, after the story about Luca, I liked her even more...Luca's pure heart and intentions humanized Hannah, somewhat), I really enjoyed Alois's character and story, and...yeah.

Oh yeah, going back to Hannah...I wonder if her eating Luca's soul is the main reason why she became such an emotional demon. I get the impression that she didn't really want to eat his soul, but had to because of the contract. Maybe his soul was so pure, that's what allowed her to feel.

I'm sort of both happy and sad...and yes, this ending also made me go "WTF?!"

Ciel as a Demon = *melts* for a 13 yr old...or is that just me? XD

I sort of predicted that Ciel would be come a demon...and I can't believe it happened.

"I look forward to the day we meet again"...Maybe a 3rd Season might happen? It could...who knows...

I don't know how I feel about this...
I'm kinda glad Alois and Luca are reunited together...

& I don't really mind Ciel being a demon... since he looked pretty cool.
But I feel kind of sorry for Sebastian having to serve Ciel for eternity, but it's not like he didn't have a choice, he agreed to it...

I just have mixed feelings about this :/

Don't worry, Hammychanx3, you're not alone XD I liked the series very much too, I'm just sad that Sebastian isn't really happy to stay with Ciel together forever (in the OP, he doesn't look sad when he's on his knees in the same rose field of the final scene and Ciel is smiling with his head up), even though I like this sadomasoquist side XD like, slavery XD - but wait:

Linalee-Stratos said:

Once a demon devours a soul, it becomes one with the demon. Hannah made it possible for the devoured souls to communicate. Though I have still doubts about this.

So, CielxSebastian fans, let's think that Sebby was sad because he couldn't become one with Ciel XD but if he did he would be physically alone forever... so it's better to stay at Ciel's side forever, even under his orders. Oh, and it's so good Ciel is gonna be 13 forever, it's so cute *-* and an adult Ciel would ruin the pairing. Just what I think.

As I said before, Sebastian will have the eternity to trully love Ciel XD

Yes! That's the way I see it. I feel sorry for Sebastian he can no longer eat Ciel's soul. But now that Ciel is demon, Sebastian and Ciel has all eternity together. It's kinda sad and happy. But with eternity together surely they will learn to love each other. I love the last scene when Sebby carried Ciel.

Um... yeah. Ok.. that was... I'm super speechless, give me a sec...

I think I'm just going to forget this whole season ever happened and just end it from the first season or better yet, just read the manga.

Ciel was so out of character in the end. I think he would've been mad for not being able to give Sebastian his soul which he was more than ready to give to before. That's a reason why I like Ciel so much, he is true to his word no matter what the consequences. However, making Sebastian his butler forever and ever isn't following the contract.
Sorry Sebastian x Ciel fans but I'm pretty sure that Sebastian was extremely mad and frustrated by this whole situation. Having to be a Butler for all eternity without having the soul he wanted so badly, what torture.
I used to hate Sebastian for just wanting Ciel's soul, but since Ciel was ok with it then I came to terms with it.

Overall, it was an interesting season, but it didn't stay true to the characters.
Yeah I'm definitely seperating this from the actual story...

Ohmyllama.
So much mindfuck.
My random thoughts of this season ~

Okay, so Alois is awesome and is the reason I'm rating this season a 10. I'm really glad he got a 'happy ending'. None of the other characters really got that :/
Speaking of happy endings, poor Sebs. Sucks to be him. He worked so hard for his meal, now he gets to spend the rest of eternity serving a bratty kid.
Claude dies. Not that we didn't see that coming.
Okay, it bugs be how the Maylene/Bard/Finny/Tanaka/Lau/Undertaker/However Else were pretty much ignored the time. I am espeically disapointed in the lack of Tanaka :( Oh well. I guess that was the point of the filler episode at the beginning.

Mehh. The season was like some insane fanfiction. Overall, I did very much enjoy this season.

*prays that the manga doesn't follow the demon!Ciel route*

The fact that Seb will never get to have his just reward, after all that work of fulfilling Ciel's revenge, strikes me as acutely unjust. The ending left me feeling as empty as Seb's face.

I'm thinking spending eternity with demon Ciel under a contract is more of a grim ending than if Sebastian ate Ciel's soul...I don't know, as much as I love Kuroshituji...Sebastian seemingly not happy about the situation weighs upon me and I don't feel like it's a true closer :/ I feel sorry for him actually.

Sort of happy that Jim was reunited with Luca. Hannah loving Luca was so sweet and sad.

Not going to change my rating, still 9/10 as was season 1 because I enjoyed the fan service.

I must admit I have mixed feelings about the season...

The season in itself wasn't bad. I enjoyed watching it, if only for the fanservice. XD The new characters were nice, even though they weren't as well developed as I would have liked (such potential gone to waste!), and the plot twists made the story interesting. All in all, I didn't love nor hate the second season. That is until the 12th episode...

I'm glad that Alois had his happy ending. His soul rested alongside Luka's soul inside Hannah, and when Hannah went to find the dead Claude, Alois had all the people he loved with him. So why shouldn't Ciel and Sebastian have their own happy ending too? Ciel wanted Sebastian to eat his soul (he even ORDERED him to do it), and Sebastian deserved to eat Ciel's soul after everything he had done for the boy. It would have been natural that it end that way. Both parties would have been happy: perfect ending, right?

But no, now we have demon!Ciel, with Sebastian acting as his butler for eternity, and Sebastian is NOT pleased. Honestly, who would want to serve a difficult 13-year-old boy for eternity? And I don't think that demons can feel love, no matter how much my fangirl self would love it. They may find someone interesting, or even lust after them, but love? Nope.

This ending allows a third season, but what would it be about? Another search for Ciel's lost soul would be redundant. Following the lives of two demons isn't appealing to me. Finding a way to turn Ciel back to his human-self doesn't seem realistic. So what now? I'll still watch the third season (if there is one) because I'm curious like that, but I won't be totally satisfied until Sebastian eats Ciel's soul...

There better be a third season with a truly awesome ending to make up for that of the second season, or else I'll try to forget the 2nd season happened and remember the 1st ending instead.

What bothers me is that how Ciel can magically be revived as a demon is not explained other than "It was Alois' wish of Hannah." Just because Hannah is a demon doesn't mean she can wave a magic wand and transform a human into a supernatural being. But then again, the anime really did start taking many liberties with the supernatural elements.

Poor Sebastian looks so miserable. I had really wanted him to be able to eat Ciel's soul. But now he's going to be more like a slave for life, never having any kind of reward to work towards.

Don't understand how Ciel was really able to become a demon though. And not really sure why Sebastian has to still follow Ciel around if he's no longer human, and no longer has a soul he can eat. Wasn't that kind of the base of the contract between them?

Think they probably could have come up with a better ending, but I didn't hate this one. It just leaves a lot of holes.

I was crying for a while during the episode... TT_TT
The ending was... weird... but just so sad TT_TT

It's nice that it's an open-ending but I'm not sure if I want the third season. Well, there are series which ending like this are most memorable and the continuation would only kill the pleasure you got from it, you know what I mean? So... Even though I'd like to see Sebastian and Ciel again, I don't think it would be good - there are (for me at least) completely different people now. It would not be the same as old Kuroshitsuji...

I loved this whole season until this episode...... this episode was rushed and uncreative.

I did like however the fact that Alois Trancy avenged himself.

I wouldn't say Alois won in the end because his love for Claude wasn't returned, he just made everyone as miserable as him, which i love because i love Alois.

Alois looking for love, loving too much, loved not by him, loved by Hannah, loved by his ones, but not loved by his one.

Sad.

For some reason I can't see myself crying for the last episode of Kuroshitsuji T_T... the end was just so perfect to me( even trough the characters didn't really match the 1st season's ) but Ciel becoming a demon is just Man !! They can enjoy eternity together >-<. What I found to be sad were the letters Seb delivered in the end for every one...with Ciel being dead...I felt sorry for Elizabeth I wasn;t rooting for that pair but she loved him....
Anyway I should go on reading the manga and discover a new ciel , maybe they'll make a season for the manga too ....

I really liked this episode and - no offense meant - some of the reactions really make me chuckle. I admit, some of the second season really came of like a huge "TAKE THAT!" (not the music band, most obviously), and that, too was something I really liked.

The season successfully showed, that Sebastian's attachment to Ciel was purely because of the quality of Ciel's soul. It explained those moments of uncomfortable tension between the two in season one. How much pull a soul like that has was apparent when Claude found out about it and the length he would go to, to be able devour it himself.

More than that, we get to see that demons are in fact pure evil and when they don't seem that way it serves a purpose.

I also really liked the contrast between Alois who misunderstood "I want to eat your soul, badly" as "I love you" and Ciel who understood the difference perfectly.

In the end Sebastian is not only denied his meal, but has to serve Ciel for all eternity. Taking into consideration, that he's obviously a very strong demon this is corporal punishment. And while Ciel did detest Sebastian a little throughout both seasons, because he was demon, now being a demon himself will give him plenty of time to humble him further.

Will Ciel allow Sebastian to have a cat, now that he's not allergic anymore? Most certainly not. Now he, too, is a demon, meaning he is evil and evil needs a purpose to do anything nice. Since Sebastian already needs to do whatever he says there's no point.

The "winner" of this season is Hannah, and I really like that. For several reasons the other characters let their guard down around her, until it was too late. And you just don't let your guard down around a demon.

Claude and Sebastian likewise were too greedy, too eager to eat Ciel's soul to notice that Hannah's objective wasn't the same. She already had a first class soul some time ago (Luka) and the way she did it I believe Jim's (Alois') soul gained quality. And that was brilliant.

I wouldn't mind a third season at all.

Wow, that was certainly unexpected! In some way I feel sorry for Sebastian, when looking at his ending.. If you´re a demon and you´re the butler of a demon who was before your future snack.. that´s kind of a failed demon isn´t it?
Now Sebas. can't make any contracts and is stuck with Ciel.. (and what would demon Ciel do?)

Meh, I´m not sure.. I think the demon fight thing wasn't given enough time, it's almost as if they made haste to fit everything in one episode.. (- is kind of missing epic ending battle -)

lol, I'm still downloading but I've read the summary. So in the end, Luca, Alois, Hannah and Claude are together. Hannah being the mommy, Claude the daddy, Luca and Alois being their children. LOL, I think it's perfect. Well I'm fine with that.

And with Sebby unable to eat Ciel's soul and forever binded to him. HAHAHA! I think that's perfect too. All in all great ending. I hope there will be no more season 3 - to end the anime once and for all. Ah gonna go look for new anime now.

In the end, it's still Claude and Alois being together - in some way and with Alois being happy too. I couldn't get happier. YEssshh!!

And..... Sebby and Ciel's life is sooo fucked up.

I don't like Ciel when he's a demon, when he was still human he cared about Sebastian at least (I mean he had to blush when he was thinking about him when he was in the garden of the Trancy household)... And now what, Sebastian is gonna be his butler for eternity? :( I mean, doesn't he have to feed himself (with human souls)? And he can't make a sceond contract like Hannah? I would guess he could, I mean if Hannah can why can't he? I really HATE Hannah, she ruined the whole ending -_- Poor Claude, damn shit Alois and poor Sebastian. I don't hate the ending but I feel so sorry for Sebastian cauz he isn't happy with this at all. I would've enjoyed more is he was a bit more.. happy about it? And wth he can't break the contract , even now Ciel is a demon? The contract is based on the fact that Sebastian will get Ciel's soul and now that he's a demon (and so it's impossible to get his soul) wouldn't that mean that the contract is broken when Ciel became a demon? o.O I have to admit, now I'm thinking about it I sorta dislike the ending & hate the new attitude of Ciel. Ciel was one of my fav chars but now he's so mean/heartless I dislike him! What did they've done to Ciel Phantomhive! :'( I would die for a third season/OVA just to see how Sebastian's doing with his new "master" (and to hopefully see that he's ok with it, I never wanna see that sad face again! *cries*) I would've been só happy if he got to eat Ciel's soul, it would've been a so much better ending....

(Btw,, it isn't explained how/when/why Ciel made a contract with Sebasdtian, I kinda miss that part? I know it should be in the manga but I'm at vol. 2 so.. does somebody know?)

I think one day Ciel will suffer of the fact he can't actually grow up. He's stuck in the body of a kid for all eternity, and he'll probably make Sebastian's life a living hell because he's frustrated. Really, the more I think about it, the more it reminds me of interview with the vampire.

Demons can heal every wound, except from the ones caused by Hannah's sword, so even if they jump off a cliff, they'll survive. But Ciel said he wants to go to "that place in which humans and demons are equal", meaning that Sebastian is bringing him to a guided tour of hell.

Anyway I don't remember who said that Alois decided to turn Ciel into a demon to give him a chance to live, but now that I rewatched the episode I think that's not the case.
Alois told Ciel that being a demon forever was "his punishment for being so loved by both Sebastian AND Claude" (because Alois has always been jealous and could never stand the fact that Claude liked Ciel).
But then, he did not intend it to be a punishment for Claude, because as Sebastian said, Claude died "the way Alois expected him to". Alois knew Sebastian would have killed Claude, and that's what he wanted because this way he could have Claude back.
So when he told Hannah "I want the demon to feel what I felt when I saw Claude's love and couldn't have it", he was referring to Sebastian. He KNEW all along that Sebastian would have triumphed over Claude and got stuck with Ciel forever.
But I wonder, why does Alois hate Sebastian so much he wanted to condemn him to a life of eternal misery? What did Sebastian do to him? O.O

I think everythings a little bit complicated with his reasons for his contract with Hannah in the end.

He's grown up hating Sebastian with a passion because he believed that he was the demon who killed Luca, no thanks to Claude. Just because he was told by Hannah that it's all a lie, it can't be easy to suddenly throw all this hate away in an instant. That and Alois seemed to be pretty self-centered and over the top when it came to his feelings. It did upset him when Sebastian called him lowclass in episode one and this must have hurt even more when he saw Claude become to obsessed with Ciel. That and Sebastian became quite manipulative and used Alois and lied to Ciel to get what he wanted. I guess Alois just wanted Sebastian to feel what he was going through the season.

Still how can you not feel sorry for Sebastian in the end? I still like Alois though.

I think Sebastian sensed something bad with Alois since the beginning. In fact, in the first episode he tried to kill him with the silverware.I believen he istinctively knew that kid would be his doom XDXD
Ok I am an Alois' fan, but I admit he can be a little bastard when he wants to. Honestly, it's one of the reasons why I love him XD

In my opinion, the reason why Sebastian still has to serve Ciel is because in the rose labyrinth, when Ciel pushed Alois back and took control of his body for a moment, he told Sebastian: "You will stay my butler until you eat my soul." And Sebastian replied: "Yes, my lord." So this was like agreeing to another term of the contract. However, when Ciel died and was reborn as a demon, his soul went away, so Sebastian couldn't eat it. Since he hasn't eaten Ciel's soul yet, and he made the promise to serve him until he did (which is never because the soul has disappeared), he's still his butler. Twisted, eh?

As for how a human can become a demon through a wish, I'm still trying to understand how that is possible... If (when) there is a third season, I expect solid explanations.
