THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This one was just a minor variation on last week's episode. It wasn't particularly funny, nor did it bring any new aspects to the characters.

The problem is that while the rest of the characters gain little bits of depth to their personalities each week, the Narrator isn't.

So next week we'll find out who Keiko-san is, but I hope that it isn't as dull and predictable as this week's episode.

This is the sublimation - the apex (or nadir) of the 2D complex. I hope Watashi sees the light, but I guess that won't happen until at least the ninth episode. We shall forge on.
Here are my episode impressions; I hope you enjoy them as well:

http://animeotaku.animeblogger.net/2010/06/tatami-galaxy-yojo-han-shinwa-taikei-07-the-2d-complex-sublimed/

BTW, I thought it was great that Ozu was revealed to be a human. I called it right! I was also pleased with how he uttered the most important line of the episode to Watashi. Somehow, despite his nature, he is also a friend to Watashi.

Assuming that the next episode follows the same general path but with the one remaining woman, I'll be interested to learn more about Keiko. Hope they surprise us.

I guess I'm the only one who actually liked seeing him with Kaori, haha.

But yeah, overall I thought this episode was really lackluster.
I hope the next one will be better, and I'm looking forward to seeing where the story will go once the 'choosing between the three' arc is over.

Has anyone notice that Kaori is also voiced by Watashi? I thought that was really intelligent of the show and of Yuasa.

The cowboy has become part of his personality......is this a good development??but anyway,The cowboy is kinda dangerous if the love partner is "Kaori".
This episode kinda remind me the difference between living in the visual world(things which is given) and the real world(things which is ignore)......i guess this is part of Watashi's problem anyway or maybe not>.<
The fortune teller is getting more and more pushy.....
Are we gonna have a chobit happy ending??

Though he first started out as a hapless victim of his fate, senpai is now starting to control the timeline. It started with him accepting responsibility for his failure 'just this one time', then he asked for a redo the last episode. At the end of this episode, he actually commands a rewind. It seems he is starting to become concious of the circle of events.

That quick glimpse of Ozu as a human was pretty revealing...
Is there another word for synonym?

I have written that Ozu was recognized by Watashi to be a friend (while an enemy at the same time).

Anyway, I attempted to analyze the opening animation of the show, develop the hypothesis I made in the previous episodes, as well as comment on the 'game of love' episode six featured:

Hope you still enjoy these posts of mine. Thanks for reading them, and I hope you guys could comment!

Actually Watashi should have just directly love Akashi just like how he love Kaori.......
At least he learn how to Love......can't wait to see what happen next.
The thing I learn:
The opposite of love is Hardworking ^^
@physics223
friend and enemy = neutral ??
in my point of view Ozu is friend
in Watashi point of view Ozu is enemy
Since the Art of the Animation are created by Watashi...So I don't really trust Watashi at all.

@MorningGlory

Watashi himself says that Ozu is his friend and enemy (see episode six). Ozu does help him at times, but he also brings him to trouble at others. Watashi doesn't see Ozu as black as evil: he just says mean things to Ozu to feel better about himself. :)

Thank you for the comment. I do agree, it does look like a town somewhat. Also replied to you there in my blog - really appreciate the commentary. :D

But anyway....Actually I realize Ozu as a friend during episode3.Maybe the reason I give during that time is a bit too forceful ....but I did give a positive reason of Ozu being a good friend during episode3.

To be honest....Where you get the "love game"?? from which episode,if possible tell me the timeline also >.< ty

I noted in my post that that was taken from the sixth episode. It's from 09:18-09:22.

I thought Ozu acted as a friend in episode five and also in a smaller extent this episode (seven).

I liked how this episode kind of expanded on the seemingly same timeline of the last one instead of offering a completely different one. That kind of variation was needed by now, I think.
I'm still missing Akashi as female lead here, though.

And on the edge of sanity I stumble and fall.

I think this episode had a lot more in it than you might realise at first. I, for one, think that Watashi DID develop a bit here.

Anyway, looking forward to next week. My guess is Keiko is Ozu (haha).

It was a nice expansion to episode 6th's plot, and it seems the next one will be the Keiko route. It woud be a good thng that watashi finally realizes that Akashi's the right choice for him. Still, seeing him doing outrageous mistake after huge failure is both funny and insightful. And it's always perfectly directed and extremeky creatively constructed by Yuasa.

I almost stopped watching this episode at the beginning because I thought I grabbed the previous one XD

I really like the way this is being told. I was disappointed last week when we didn't get to learn much about Keiko, and now it seems like we will. I also think it would be cool if we got an Akashi path, although that would make more sense at the end of the series.

hahahahahahaha that would be funny.

I think that what we saw of Ozu's real face is still stuck partly in Watashi's.. delusions?

I always thought the guy in the OP is what Ozu really looks like. The one with the striped shirt (in my profile picture)

Awesome episode; quite different from all that's come before it, while retaining the various themes central to the Main Truth, whatever it might be.

Physics223, I don't usually check out external links when reading threads, but I did check your analyses and found them very interesting. Too tired to read thoroughly much less comment but may later. Very illuminating :-)

What intrigued me most was the sympathetic portrayal of The Doll, Kaori. Usually the subject of love dolls is ridiculed and scoffed at, usually by know-nothings who are unsympathetic rubes anyway. I think only Ghost in the Shell even touched on the subject before, Eve no Jikan's and Chobits' implications notwithstanding.

I'll just add that it appears that Ozu is in the role of a "satan" or "adversary"; a satan is not necessarily an "evildoer" but an opponent. Everything depends upon how Watashi deals with Ozu's presence or influence. Just a thought :-)

That was one hell of an episode. The doll is a metaphor for taking the easy route in relationships, in other words just avoid them. I can relate to that, unfortunately.

Also, I accidentally watched episode 8 first...

Whoa. Another amazing episode despite it's pretty much the same with the previous episode but this time it's about Kaori.

Whenever Johnny yells at Watashi, I always laugh. Thanks to this VA. XD

I really like how things are starting to make sense esp. when Watashi said "Retake."

And also, the fortune teller's scene this time is probably her funniest scene. lmao

Well, I did not think that was as good as the last one but, still, a quality episode.

I always like the interactions between Watashi and Ozu; and, while there was really only one in this episode, I thought the moment when Ozu told Watashi to be more honest with himself was a good one. The more we see of Ozu's character, the more Watashi's claims that he is soulless don't really hold up. I look forward to seeing Watashi take more responsibility for the state of his life like he did back in episode 5.
