The Kyoto Animation 2026 New Work Announcement Stage at the KyoAni no Sekai-ten (KyoAni's World Exhibition) unveiled the main cast, staff, the first key visual (pictured), and first promotional video for the Nijusseiki Denki Mokuroku: Eureka Evrika (Sparks of Tomorrow) anime series on Saturday. The television anime adapting Hiro Yuuki's historical romance light novel will begin airing in 2026.

Voice actors Yuuma Uchida (Wind Breaker) and Sora Amamiya (Nanatsu no Taizai) are starring as Kihachi Sakamoto and Inako Momokawa, respectively.

Staff
Director: Minoru Oota (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S episode director)
Series Composition: Tatsuhiko Urahata (Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf)
Character Design, Chief Animation Director: Kouhei Okamura (Free! Movie: The Final Stroke)
World Design: Takaaki Suzuki (Violet Evergarden)
Music: Hitomi Koto
Studio: Kyoto Animation

The light novel won Honorable Mention at the 8th Kyoto Animation Award in 2017. Yuuki published the title under Kyoto Animation KA Esuma Bunko label with illustrations by Kazumi Ikeda (Hibike! Euphonium 3 character design) in August 2018.

Synopsis
In an alternate version of the early 20th-century, where steam power developed rapidly and progress has now stagnated—Kyoto is shrouded in soot, smoke, and steam.

Kihachi, a skeptical boy, is haunted by the loss of his brother with whom he once dreamed of an "Age of Electricity." Inako, a deeply spiritual girl, feels forced to hide both her dreams and her regrets for her late mother. When Inako crosses paths with Kihachi, their encounter creates a spark that propels them to challenge a new era, with the 20th Century Electric Catalogue as their guide: a mysterious and visionary record full of secrets that could reshape the world.

To move beyond who they are now and reclaim the dreams they once held—this is a story of renewal.

Finally, another drama series from KyoAni! I was getting tired of all the CGDCT shows they’ve been putting out lately.

I’ve waited for this ever since it got announced like half a decade ago or something at this point…

I always had a feeling KyoAni would come back to it though and they haven’t done a project like this in some time which makes me even more excited!

Some of the shots in the PV look absolutely beautiful too!

It looks great, but what's the story about? Is the MC trying to bring electricity to Japan?

I'm just so happy to see this show being completed after all the suffering and loss
Of big disaster this is how you progress
And show your value and grief to those are wounded and it looks incredible as always with kyoani.
Thank you so much for your dedication

AHHHHH I can't believe this is really happening, 8 years later and after a horrible tragedy.

Very interesting alternate-history premise and painterly background art. The characters look somewhat plain, but I'm sure they'll be well-animated and voiced.

I remember being so hyped for this back in 2018 and I was even very active in threads on previous entry (was removed due to lack of updates). I never lost hope that it will return and I'm so glad my patience has paid off. 😊

Wow; this seems different from the usual KyoAni project. I can't wait to see what they cook up; their work on Violet Evergarden showed that they can make a world come to life spectacularly. The animation looks great in the PV, and the premise sounds unique. I'm not big on history-inspired settings, but I might give this a try.

Apparently, this project started way back in 2018; it was presumably left hanging for a while, probably due to the arson attack. It's a miracle that we're seeing this. I'm sure KyoAni has done their best.
