Close to no animation, but I guess it's fair to say they're not doing anything other than literally yapping for 15 minutes, so I'll let it slide for now. The only saving grace of this episode is is Fubuki and Tatsumaki. Make them major supporting characters already.

@Sanitizer_trio quality? They deliberately held back this episode probably to go all out in future ones.. if that's the case I'm fine with it.

@Sexyjutsu This makes no sense. You don't make your opening episode shit on purpose. If anything, your first and final episodes should be the best one in terms of quality.

However, what I meant by "animation" in my awkward way is not animation per se, which seems much worse than that of season 1 and 2, but rather all the production as the whole. The direction, if such a term can be used for animation, a sound design, and the whole feel of it. The art is visibly different, and seems cheaper. The movements seem wooden and unnatural. I wasn't immersed at all in the episode.

Many people here talked about how bad the second season animation was. I'm not an anime specialist, but I didn't noticed much difference then. And my enjoyment from the season 2 wasn't lessened in any way. But this first episode has actually made me angry. I don't know what is it: is it really so bad, or maybe the fashion of animation has changed, or maybe is the overall decline of the quality in Japanese animation -- all I know it looks, sounds and feels terrible in comparison for previous seasons. And it's a shame, because we are talking about one of the best action manga there are. At least for me it is probably the top one.

Slice of life animes have more animation than this...

The most animated part was Garou walking and even that was an abomination (why do his traps move like that???). Also this episode should have had an action scene with Royal Ripper but they completely removed that part from the story.

One PowerPoint Man is real, and so far the animation looks even worse than Season 2. I’m curious how the fight scenes will turn out. Not only that, the direction was atrocious. I’m definitely going to drop this at some point.

The animation very mid, its like shlideshow, cam left, right, zoom in, zoom out, wth is that Garou walking animation, the pacing was tooo fast, i feel like it was rushed (very rushed)

I'm really disappointed with the fandom more than the anime it was only the first ep where there was no fights at all
Even I myself have not set up the expectation bar high but honestly I feel pretty awful because of some people and there no brainer hate

A lot of talking setting up things to come.

Season 2 was honestly not the worst even with some glaring issues and I know we'll never get anything close to Season 1 but still not expecting too much.

The art direction was pretty solid, and an improvement over season 2. However, the whole episode felt a little off to me. I think it was the lack of animation. The characters actually moved around and did stuff when they talked in season 2, whereas we've barely seen any of that so far. Despite this, I'm still very excited and hopeful for what's to come. That teaser we got a while ago with Garou fighting those two monsters looked really polished, and the opening had some nice scenes of animation too.

It was just pure garbage

Barely any character movement, transitioning from one scene to another was awkward, lots of still images, stiff 2d animation and avarage 3d animation

Every one say s2 was bad but i would say atleast s2 had consistent animation even if it is some time bad but it had consistent animation every episode

But this garbage had none
They could've atleast added bare minimum animation or character movement here and there or else could've made transitioning scenes a little bit smoother but they didn't

I think it is by far the worst episode so far of one punch man series (previous 2 seasons combined)

What the heck is going on? People behind One-Punch Man -production should know how much of a big deal we are talking about here.

Yet:
-Animation was stiff
-Editing felt weird
-Pacing was quite rushed
-Opening lacked in hype
-This seriously felt like a one person project

I sincerely hope things will pick up. Big fights are yet to come (manga readers know) but this certainly left me quite worried for the future. Can´t do much now but to wait for those future episodes.

Yeah no, I just don't see what there is to complain about. Even when I watched season 2, I didn't even notice a studio change while watching it until I saw it here on MAL, and again, this episode looked just fine to me. To me it just seems like people are just blowing it out of proportion at this point.

Poor Sonic lol. Overall this one was okay, just a lot of setup. Hoping they're saving the good animation for later because it didn't impress me visually at all. Still too early to tell how this season will turn out, I'm cautiously optimistic though

Is a pretty bad episode, bad director, he doesn’t know what he is doing. The timing, the frame composition, the camera movement, even how the phasing the story goes, a lot of talking heads, character with a white background talking, the Garou walk is really bad as animation goes. Anyway, this is an anime for Mappa or Wit studios I think, hope they save the 4th season

They forget this is an action comedy. And there's just just some fights that are fast and blurry, remember? That's what people get upset about. It didn't bother me though cause some fights were meant to be done quickly and others were just really fast paced fights. Also transitions are not organic, it's like taking the frames of the anime as a crude storyboard and make it happen. The ending of the episode is another example, in like 5 seconds 3 scenes happen with just 3 different frames like a storyboard with no transition.

This feels like Blue Lock S2, there's really no animation, it's mostly a visual novel with audio.

I know the anime industry is famous for not having too much frames, they have developed techniques to trick the audience, but this is ridiculous, it's blatantly obvious.

The drawing does not look bad, we'll see in the next episode if they are saving material for fights or something, but it's not a good start. Usually the first and last episode of a season have great production quality than the middle ones, for obvious reasons.

The scene cuts, that one cut of Garou walking and The one cut of Child Emperor after he's done talking to Metal Knight are definitely off and they are definitely saving animation time for the fights. Fubuki and Super S on pointaaaa👌

Everybody still bitching about S2 needs to shut up. This was a dialogue heavy episode and J.C. Staff is definitely saving animation time for the action this season. People want to bitch about S2 yet couldn't even comprehend animating a cut. S1 was definitely more polished and consistent animation wise but S2 was actually better as far as story and characters go. People tend to forget that this anime is called One Punch Man...it's an action comedy...

Now, in this episode I will say the scene cuts were off along with how Child Emperor is drawn after talking with Metal Knight and that one cut of Garou walking after having just broken out of his cell. Aside from that though, this was a necessary episode. Let's wait and see how the animation turns out next episode👍 Oh and I like the colour palette of some of the cuts, really cool. Looks like the same palette used for Bleach (I only watched a trailer or two).
