Do You Ever Feel Bad About What You Tell Your Cat?

Have you ever found yourself telling your cat something weird or unsaintly? Just a few minutes ago I told my cat that he was so cute that I could just eat him up. That sounds fine at furst, but when you think about it for a moment you realize that you are claiming that you'd eat a cat! That's not something any normal or decent human would do. I've also told my boy that I want to hug his brains out and snuggle him senseless, which is really mean when you dig into the words a smidge. I always apologize purrfusely, over course, and also let him eat my dinner and let myself go hungry whenever I slip up, but it doesn't make up for the hurtful things I sometimes sputter for no discernible reason. Have you ever furound yourself saying something less than delightful to your own little creampuffs?

Some people may say that this is in the wrong discussion section, but, well, that's just some people.

Let's just say that if my cat was an anime cat, yes I probably would. ;_;

Why'd one feel bad when it doesn't understand what's told?

Nothing beyond calling them little shits when they fight with the neighbours cat or make me chase them around the garden to get them in on a cold night

But one of my cats did walk in on me watching Redo Of Healer, needless to say he was quite confused as to why i would put myself thru such torture

I don't apologise when I call my cat a greedy little bastard when he pushes away his sister from her cup to eat her share as well.

Well maybe, "hey that box you're snuggling is my mom" 🥺

My cat just loved going up there to see her for a time. I don't mind so long as she's respectful and doesn't knock her off.

@DigiCat ngl it sounds cute the way you describe it but it must be a hassle to make sure everyone gets enough food while no one eats too much

I stopped actually talking to the cat and only use crudely imitated meows with a speech-like pattern now

the cat totally gets it

Shouldn't have entered this thread. Yeah, i called both of them names (not too dirty / cursing) when they ran with no brakes for the entire house or the older one (2014-2024) spent the last two years of his life with a bullying problem against the younger (2017-alive). Yeah, the younger one never became actually fat like my father often called him, but soon took a bad habit of self-inviting into his adopted brother's bowl of food and we had to separate him. And he always immediately attacks with his paws or attempts to bite when i caress him, and as a result i always scold calling him "SOCIOPATH!" (coming from me... that's rich).

And... yeah, the last two weeks of 2024 hurt hard especially thinking about the younger one still watching left and right when it was breakfast / lunch / afternoon snack / dinner before eating for full in his bowl, probably asking himself where his older adopted brother had gone... hiding. Hiding... yeah... i miss him and never recovered after almost a full year without his presence. He barely arrived to 10 years and 4 months, not even long enough (for just 3 months and a half) to visit my long awaited new house that probably he would have enjoyed.

I don't have a pet cat but I have observed that people do feel bad about what they say to their cat.
It's Not that the cat understands every word, but because those words reflect what’s going on inside the pet owners.
When people vent out to cat, or said something in sadness or anger, it’s not really about the cat, it's about them needing a safe outlet. And cats, in their quiet, mysterious way, are safe.

I suppose when I have to discipline him I sometimes might feel remorse later on. I try not to be a softy though, even though I am. @_@

Sometimes the squeaks and meows can certainly sound odd (but they are always adorable)!

You mean that you'd love the fluff out of 'em?

Because it could teach them a twisted understanding of what love is!

Cats are greedy fur love, and there's nothing wrong with that! They should share the food, though.

Little fluffies are known to knock things over to show dominance, so keep an eye out!

How so? Their understanding of love isn't based on words.
