If you haven't changed or haven't forgot, what anime did you consider as your favorite when you started watching anime? It's fun to see how much someone's taste changed over time.
My first favorite anime, after watching about 50 anime or so was Bungou Stray Dogs. I really enjoyed all three seasons and I switched to manga after it.

Probably Dragon Ball, otherwise Pokemon, but One Piece is my first one that's still among my favorites today.

My first favorites were a bunch of action shounen and school romance anime. Back then, I loved the energy, the hype, and all the dramatic aspect they carried. But over time, I’ve grown out of them the over the top screams, the predictable romance plots, and the constant crashes that used to excite me now rarely hold my interest anymore.

Mine was

Although admittedly there wasn't much selection at the time. And my favorite has changed many, many times over the years. They are more like favorites, as I like different titles for different reasons.

Probably the longest running favorite was, and still is, Cowboy Bebop. It's the anime I judge all others against.

Most probably pokemon, I remember watching it when I was in elementary school and it's one of only things I even remembered. I also watched a few episodes of DBZ but I was too young to understand or remember it. Years later I picked the manga itself in high school.

When I was a kid, I think it was Digimon Adventure (still great btw).

When I started watching anime consistently back in 2018, Steins;Gate. It's not among the ten favorites in my profile anymore, but I think it's still in my top 20-25.

@JaniSIr I like to shuffle around my favorites, so I need to be very careful in order to avoid recency bias

Cardcaptor Sakura (watched the Nelvana dub). I liked that the titular protagonist was actually smart and the progression of each episode appealed to the part of me that loved adventure games (thought the anime was like if Zelda was the hero instead of Link). But most of all, it's because of the glorious, plucky girlfailure that is Meiling. It took 20 years before she was finally surpassed as my favourite anime character.

My first anime was Dragon Ball Z, but my first favorite anime was Gokusen. Gokusen was the first anime that got me into manga. I wanted more of the story, and I found the manga. And even then, I wanted more of the manga!

Not that I didn't like Dragon Ball Z, but I never wanted to look up the manga. Perhaps it's because the Dragon Ball anime series kept coming out with new episodes and series. Like, even after Dragon Ball Z, it seemed to keep going. So I never felt like I had to read the manga to get more of the story. Though either way, I kind of fell off the Dragon Ball series, but I never did for Gokusen. I even read fanfiction of it. It was very little fanfiction, but I read it. I even fantasized about a story in my head. Yeah, I was deeply obsessed.

First fav was definitely Fate/Zero. It was unlike anything that I had seen before at that time. I had always watched anime in passing as a kid (DBZ, Inuyasha, and Naruto on Toonami) but as I started to watch anime on my own in college I started gravitating towards the super gritty shows like Psycho Pass and AOT. Fate/Zero was the peak for me in that phase of my anime life.

It was either Noir or El Cazador de la Bruja. Probably the latter as I'm fairly sure I watched that one first. Regardless, I love all of Bee Train's "Girls With Guns" trilogy and count them all amongst my favourites.

«Jungle Kurobee» (1973)

The original work is by FUJIKO Fujio, creator of numerous legendary works, including «Doraemon». *
An African boy (likely incorporating elements from Papua New Guinea) tries to pierce a passenger plane down that he mistook for a giant bird, and he arrives in Japan by clinging to it. By chance, he ends up living with a boy his age and his family.
Each episode features powerful native magic that distorts reality and ritual dance that invokes it. Yet it was more thrilling to watch the protagonist, who meant no harm, repeatedly cause unforeseeable trouble due to the cultural gap between his tribal customs and Japanese suburban life.

Soon after, an era arrived where activists concerned about racial discrimination began forcing various picture books and manga into discontinuation from only their standards.
This work stopped being rebroadcast quite early on. It was never packaged for home video. Only the soundtrack CD was barely issued in limited quantities just a few years ago.

* This piece now belongs to FUJIKO Fujio (A), who was part of the disbanded duo.

Saint Seiya was the first anime I became fan-enough to consider it a favorite, and it remains a favorite until this day and time.
