This was a question I was asked yesterday for an icebreaker in class. If you could own any mythical creature as a pet, what would it be and why?

My answer is the Roc, a legendary bird from the 1001 Nights.

The reason being is that it's a gigantic bird, so giant it can carry elephants like a piece of cake. I can use the Roc to take me wherever I want, arguably faster than driving or any other sort of public transportation. And if anyone dares to pull any shit on me, I can just come to my pet Roc to scare them away.

My second choice would be Cerberus since I love dogs, and he would scare away any threats to my house.
If I had to choose between One Piece and a girlfriend...I think I'll go with One Piece

Baku, they eat bad dreams.

I would get a bakeneko - nekomata if I could be sure it is a safe non mischievous one like Kirara from Inuyasha.

A phoenix I suppose, they always seem like they were pretty cool. So long as they wouldn't burn me or something, Pokemon has taught me that lesson! 😱

The majestic bird, fenghuang, also called Chinese Phoenix. It has a very feminine characteristic.

Most likely inspired from gigantic flightless birds during the ice age at that time.

What, you are going to keep her in a giant aquarium in your living room? Men like you are the reason they avoid us!

Succubi aren't pets.

Seriously... you guys have no respect!

@149597871 I'd plonk her in the lower basin of the nearby waterways museum . I'm sure they won't mind, they need exciting exhibits! Plus I'd visit her every day :D

Eww! I wonder how you'd feel if a band of them dragged you down into the deep, penned you up in coral cages, and... actually, I don't want to know, but for the sake of the argument, imagine it would be extremely unpleasant!

I was going to go with something bizarre and perverted, because honestly, I have never really been into all those codependent kinks like having "pets".

But if we think about it rationally... what kind of mermaid are we talking about? "Honey, I just swallowed a whole raw salmon - come here, give me a kiss!" Or a succubus? "Hey guys, this is my new pet - oh, you have already met? Several times? All at once?"

No, I think I would get myself Jesus. First off, great piece of interior décor - everyone else has replicas, but you have got the original hanging on your living-room wall. Then there is the "water into wine" trick - handy, practical skill. Not sure if "rise and go" works on individual body parts, but if it does - absolutely priceless. And with all the leash laws these days, it's nice to have a pet you can just let run across the lake without a muzzle and not worry he'll bite a kid. And that's not even counting the small perks - like separating seeds from chaff.

Yeah, that's my kind of pet. And I would definitely treat him better than his dad did.

My Pick? A Kuda-gitsune which I saw in hell teacher nube live-action. Yea my memory is pure gold, hell Teacher Nūbē’s priestess and her kuda-gitsune were a masterclass in spiritual powers and reluctant companionship. That tiny fox spirit was just hard to control, The kuda-gitsune, though tiny, holds immense youkai power, a reminder that size doesn’t measure

It's A tiny fox spirit that lives in a bamboo tube,

Can a vampire be considered a mythological creature? Then...

Nazuna would be great as a pet!

@Lucifrost Haha, I got what you mean.

Sorry, I'm terribly soaked to talk seriously - got into the storm, now drying my pants on AC and finishing the last pint before driving home, lol.

But! I have taken a picture today, for you specifically! I saw it and it was that bulb moment - Lucifrost would like it! Climbed that not so pleasant 4m uphill, trust me! (Well, it was easy, just added some drama)

@Fukoku I have enough dreams that it will never eat all of them. It is ok.

Those eggs aren't real gold. Geese evolved gold colored eggs as a survival mechanism to get suckers to take care of them.

@Lucifrost I didn't dare to knock, honestly - I have no idea what's brewing in there. The Treefolk are at war with the Fieldkin again, and since it's Autumn, I'm obliged to side with the latter or lose my research permit for the thin-stemmed meadow mushrooms. Last time I defied them, I spent three days wandering a single plantain patch, until a dolphin appeared and politely guided me toward reality.

@Lucifrost It arrived in a chariot drawn by ants. I didn't ask any questions - I know ants are the quiet type. Once, I told an entire anthill that Evangelion isn't actually a deconstruction of the mecha genre, and not a single one of them argued. And dolphins can't talk, because they are fish - I'm not a complete idiot, I don't talk to dolphins.

@Lucifrost Well, maybe I'm not that good at zoology. I was misled by the fact that they go to fish college and build fish radios to communicate with fish-alien species. Now I see it's nothing but fish-culture expropriation. I probably should have interrogated that dolphin about his legs - my mistake. Next time, yesterday maybe. Not sure if dolphins even work on yesterdays, though.

Well not as a pet, but I would love to have faeries around. I imagine them to be about 10cm tall and could have a house full of them and be happy. I'd spend all the time making them special food and taking care of them.
