Spring should be = March - April - May

Summer should be = June - July- August

Fall should be = September - October - November

Winter should be = December - January - February

Animes that we are watching now in September should NOT be considered Summer.

But the year is divided into 4 quarters for time and legal reasons.

Winter = January, February, March, (march should be part of spring)

Spring = April, May, June (june should be part of summer)

Summer = July, August, September (september should be part of fall)

Fall = October, November, and December (December should be part of winter)

But doing that there would be an overlap between the previous year and next year which makes things needlessly complicated for timing and calendaring.

the first day of fall is September 22, so most of September is summer. also it would be annoying to have to say "Winter '25-'26", and then if you said "Winter '26" people wouldn't know if you meant the beginning or end of '26

What matters is that they started during the summer.

I used to think that way, but now I see that it makes more sense to look at when they started airing. Most anime run for 12 or more weeks, so although it can flow over to a different season, it just causes less confusion to use that method.

Pretty sure it's just for convenience and bookkeeping reasons, as already mentioned. Which depends on the culture.

For one, Japanese school year begins in April, so I don't think it's that weird for them to start a new season in April.

It's also worth mentioning that different regions have different climates. Just look at Tokyo today (September 9th): 33 degrees celsius (91 °F). There's a heat warning in effect. It's staying in the high-20s for the next 14 days. That's summer weather right there, even if it's slooowly cooling.

That doesn't make sense, because summer is from Jun 21 to Sep 22 so most of September is in summer.
