Yes I do. I'm currently driving a 2001 Nissan Xterra. I bought it while I was in college and it still been serving me well all these years.

Yeah, I've got a 2003 Ford Mustang convertible, v6. Got it for my 18th birthday. Fun car, very few problems, low maintenance.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe. Runs nice, got dents and dings. But runs good, A/C blows cold and the doors lock. All you could ask for.

Be safe and well travels,
Chris

I live about 2 minutes walk from the centre of town and can easily get most stuff on-foot, most of my remaining family live here too.
I take the Train or Bus to go places

I have issue with driving cars in general. Large number of blind spots, I am near sighted and I get lost in thought a lot. Id worry about hurting some animals or people. What I want I can not even find on the market.

I am actually surprised with the many that don’t have a car? I do, as much as it would be great to not have one, it’s necessary for me. I work on the road 4-5 days a week so I have a Tesla as I am able to make more bang for the buck.

Either too poor and/or have a decent enough infrastructure for public transport and/or have other people to drive for them and/or are mentally and/or physically unfit to drive and/or are too young

My current vehicle is a 2016 Jeep Patriot. It's not something I would normally pick, but considering that I got it basically for free and the A/C works great I'm not going to complain.

Yes, got a driving license on the last day of january 2006 but couldn't afford a car all on on my own until i was months into my second job in late 2012. Before, i just borrowed a grey 2006 Chevrolet Kalos from my mother and older brother or a 1999 white Fiat Panda from my grandfather when he couldn't drive any more for age limits, mostly for going to games on the road of my basketball team along with other fellow members of the firm i founded in 2004. By late 2012, i bought a second-hand grey 2002 Ford Ka and then a white newer model of the same car between april and may of 2016, mostly used for attending anime conventions since i don't need to drive to reach the place of my current job (for now...)
(save your time and don't try to comfort when i rant on casual discussion or forum games, feel free to ignore me, i won't take it personally)

I question the safety of Tesla's manufacturing quality. Electric cars also do not hold value as long so you ideally need to sell yours after a few years of ownership to get most cost efficiency. Reason is battery capacity decline. Though you can extend the lifespan by not charging 100% but at very least not let it get too low a charge like not below %25.

Personally I had been looking at Aptera which a newer company that makes aerodynamic autocycle type cars with solar panels on them. Only issue I see is I find them a bit wide to my preferences and I do not know how they perform in a crash.

I would agree with you in regards to safety, but only for the older models. I’ve test drove those before and wasn’t digging it at all, but with the changes they’ve made with the recent models 2024+, it screams safety. Mind you, I hate driving. Period. However theres so many safety features that it makes driving a better experience for me.

Recent models also have had a change in its battery as well. Lithium ion batteries can be charged to 100% and I’ve actually had my car down to 2-5% many times; the regenerative breaks is a game changer too. Anyway, they all have their pros/cons. It gets me to A and B and I certainly bought this car to run it to the ground. You’re absolutely right about the resale value and I have no intentions of selling it. Nada.

Yeah, I have an old Corolla. I don't have any anime stickers on it. It does the job, although I prefer to use public transit when I can because I don't have to worry about parking or staying sober.

Hmmm I see. Id still be wary of them myself.

Of course they can be charged 100% but havent you had like for example your phone or any similar device lose capacity after a few years? This is because full charges and discharges happening many times really is hard on a lithium ion battery. You wont notice any change immediately it builds up over time where you dont notice until it becomes significant enough you notice something different. I also heard electric also temporarily lose some capacity during winter weather so your mileage goes down in enough cold.

Ah, I thought you were talking about the max/min charge to prolong the battery life; I know thats a thing for previous models. But yes, that’s your wear and tear for an EV in the end of the day. You’re right on the battery life depletion that happens overtime, but the battery is under warranty over 100k+ mileage or 10-15 years and should last at least 300k miles at least. To me it’s justifiable because of how I use my vehicle. Not sure on the winter because I live in Florida as well, lol.

I didn't notice any significant range decline with my old 5yo Tesla. Still in love with the car and wouldn't switch if my wifey could park hers, lol.

Our mild winter isn't a problem either - speeding drains way more range than cold does, at least here.

EVs are perfect city cars tbh: noiseless/wasteless acceleration, full tank every morning if you have got a socket in the garage (cheaper here than gas too - thanks, Russian oil ban, not sure about America).

Add in low maintenance and eco discounts, and they kinda balance out depreciation. It's less about the battery dying and more about new models + price cuts making old ones look outdated. Any car loses value fast, and EVs even faster when tech moves on - no one wants the old iphone on wheels.

For longer trips it's a trade-off, yeah. Some destinations, like Venice - what a hellhole! - are a pain. I just rent a gas car when traveling abroad to places where chargers are sparse/tricky, but wouldn't go back to owning one at home (except for an old one I keep for sentimental reasons) - convenience wins.

PS: Never tried hydrogen car, that must be the future, but we will see. At least I find them the most appealing in theory.
