Perhaps they are so because "cringe" stems from a fear of losing your social standing, but one that has no social standing to begin with has no fear of losing what they don't have. But then I started thinking: Isn't that a bit overpowered? Recently I read the following tweet: people on this app are disturbingly easily influenced by memes. they're scared to be progressive because of the tiktok this is referencing. they're scared to point out details in movies because of Corn Plate. they're scared to BE scared because of a spongebob rollercoaster meme Isn't this a bit insane? I can literally control people's actions, pavlov them into fearing me by posting GIFs. BY POSTING GIFs. And they can't do the same to me because I'm aware of the system, therefore immune to it. Do you have any idea how asymmetric that is? I now notice that THIS is what I was referring to when I wrote Is the anime community like Dark Souls?, and that it lowkey looks like bullying even. In theory that should make otaku the group most capable of being internet bullies, yet they are not. Why? |

| Bullying requires social confidence formed by having good looks. Becoming a hardcore Otaku is essentially a result of lacking a social life. The uglier one is in looks, the less bad behavior than can get away with. So no though online is a seperate story since your face being anon destroys social pressure against it.  |
