How I see it, streaming is less like a 9-to-5 job and more like building your own business or brand. Starting out is tough, but once momentum picks up, some things do get easier. With a 9-to-5, it depends on the job, but generally, you’re expected to have the skills going in so the challenge is consistent, maybe predictable. You don’t typically have to work overtime unless necessary.

But when you're building a brand through streaming, you're likely working overtime from the start unless you’re just winging it and hoping for the best, which may or may not work out. There’s a lot more to manage like sticking to a schedule, figuring out what games click with your audience, planning ahead for new releases, testing new content, and constantly adjusting your strategy.

I think “harder” is subjective. Both paths can be difficult, but when you’re doing something, you find meaningful, the work feels more worth it.

Personally, I work 8 to 5 with a lunch break, then stream most evenings for about three hours. The rest of my free time goes into planning my next move, writing lore, creating shorts (which I need to do more), making videos, and checking in on other streamers. I don’t find it hard, at least not yet. It's not my full-time job. But if I grow bigger, I know I’ll eventually need to hire people to help with the smaller tasks.

I think it depends on your drive as well as how much charisma you have. Streaming on the surface may seem like an easy task, but if you don't have that charisma and energy your audience will get bored very very fast, and views will drop. I've done streaming in the past before and it's not as easy has it looks. However if you do have that drive in charisma then yes I do imagine it's easier than a nine to five job.

No, playing games and giving uninformed political opinions isn't harder than working 9-to-5.

Bills have to be paid one way or another, though. It's not always due to greed, just survival.

I think streaming would be way more taxing on your mental health than the average "normal" job if you do it as a fulltime thing rather than a hobby. Some people are natural entertainers though and can easily talk for hours and never lets more than 5 seconds go before something fun happens in the game they're playing or they pause the video they're reacting to in order to offer some interesting commentary. To me that sounds insanely stressful and that's without even talking about how bad stream chatters can be

@Retro8bit that's fake money of a board game. Hence ryoutsu is saying that line.

No, nor will ever be at all in any shape and form. It is baffling though at the same time not surprising that a bunch of slack off streamers got rich due to their impressionable, less bright audience. Giving opinions, reacting, playing games and acting quirky/exagerated on camera are not harder than a 9 to 5

It can be. Streaming requires long hours, no guaranteed income, and constant content creation. Different challenges, but both are tough in their own ways.

It depends how long they stream for and what they are doing. In one way it may be more difficult being watched by people for hours on end. Some streamers can go longer hours than a 9 to 5 job would on occasion. Though they set their own hours and choose what they do so it's not quite same, more a sort of low risk business technically.

They each bring challenges that are more or less mutually exclusive. Bottom line is, you're probably less likely to enjoy a 9-5 than streaming.

It's harder than some, easier than most.
Job security is literally 0 though.
