Holding back the urge to include American animation in the title, since I bet there'll be a lot of responses about that and chances are likely people pay attention to American animation (or foreign studios who are involved with American series such as Studio Fortiche for "Arcane"/League of Legends), so it doesn't interest me as much in regards to this question. For me, I do watch anime the most, but still pay attention to animation from other countries (even if it may not be as much or done as actively as I once did in the past) and am open to checking out a lot of stuff regardless of its origin. One of my favorite animation studios after Ghibli is an Irish studio and last year I went to see "Flow" (Latvia, Belgium, and France) and "Memoir of a Snail" (Australia) in theaters (I'm pretty sure I coincidentally found out about both because their trailers were shown before "Look Back") and I thought those films had a lot of merit. There's a lot of good art from around the world, but I wonder how many anime fans are interested in non-Japanese animation.

No. I hate any kind of animation outside of Anime. I tolerate Chinese and Korean animation cuz they share a lot of things with Holy Anime. I detest Western Animation with all my soul. Western animation is dead by this point and everyone watch Anime now. Anime is my religion and Anime is the reason of my existence. Anime is the true Animation and leader of animation.

Animation is great from basically any place you pick. Arcane is my 2nd fav show ever only behind Steins;Gate for example.

@_Mazino It looks like you're very interested in Chinese animation in particular. I've admittedly yet to watch something with writing that clicks for me, but there is beautiful looking stuff from China. I once saw this animation of a man fishing in what looked like a mythological world, but I can't for the life of me find that clip right now... And "Da Wang Rao Ming" has one of the most visually pleasing openings I've ever seen. Recently I heard about "Ne Zha" since that broke a lot of box office records, so will likely check that out at some point.

I love all animation, especially from countries like France.
@MoonBunny9297 Yeah, France takes animation very seriously, but it feels like they get overlooked. I did have a trailer of "The Illusionist" included in my original post at first, since I think it's getting a re-release in some sort of way.

I like animation in general. I just don't learn about new and interesting movies and series from other origins often so I rarely watch them. In the past I used to regularly go to an animation festival to watch short films from all over the world. Unfortunately, I've moved and the closest festival now is a bit too far to go without staying the night out.

Animation fan in general here!! Yes!! I do watch anime more than cartoons from other places (just because they're easier to keep track of- we really need a cartoon MAL imo), but there's still some pretty good stuff being made outside Japan (and the quality/skill has been getting better recently).

Yeah, I like animated shows/ movies in general. I've been watching from my country and other countries since I was little, animated shows (cartoons) and I continue to do so now some times. And when a new animated movie comes out in theaters, of course I'll go see it if I get the chance. In my mind I seperate anime/ donghua from other animated shows though.

I'm not a fan of animation in general, I only like anime. Sometimes I might watch something else, I like Rick and Morty and Link Click but usually it's an exception. But I mean only series, not individual movies. Anime has proven its quality (interestingness) to me many times, but in the case of anything else it will always be a "pig in a poke", and I really don't like wasting time on shows that are not interesting to me.

No. The only animation I watch any more is from Japan, and this is likely to remain the case indefinitely, unless the conceptual frameworks, values and attitudes involved in the creation of western animation undergo a radical shift all the way down to the planning stage of production — something that I think is very unlikely. Though, I will admit Redwall's (1999-2002) televised adaptation was a pleasant surprise for someone like me, who was otherwise passively exposed to nothing besides substanceless animated sitcoms, slapstick "comedies" and educational toddler's cartoons. Maybe if more kids nowadays, who are glued to a screen of some description anyway, grew up watching animation that nominally respected them, then they'd develop into less sensitive adults.

Just Japanese, can't get into animation if it's not Japanese save for some old cartoons like Tom & Jerry. But I would honestly be open to Korean animation if it was any good thanks to how much I'm used to consuming Korean dramas and movies.

I like 2D far too much over 3D for whatever reasons. And since western 2D has widely disappeared, and most of the time, it's aimed at children, I'm not even looking anymore. There aren't as many genres either in western animation. Everything is better with a wide variety of genres to choose from ~~

Of course, I'm not close-minded. I grew up with animations from all over the world, even if I experienced them in Mandarin dubs first. I like to watch media (even stuff with real actors) from all over the world. Good stories are good stories, it doesn't matter what country they are from. Below is a list of some of my favorites (Although it's hard to find some of these with English Subs and in Good Quality): A Day Before Us One of my favorite Korean animations ever, all three seasons available on YouTube with English subs for free, the last time I checked Pinball Legend Can't find this with good quality anymore, let alone English subs, so here's the theme song instead. Kind of similar to B-Daman Mantra Warrior The Legend Of The Eight Moons A Thai animated film available on Netflix with English subtitles below is the trailer I didn't mention the obvious ones like Link Click or To Be Hero X because most people who are interested in animations made by other countries would've seen them already anyway.

Well now since all animation is just done on computers, everything gonna start looking the same. AI gonna get rid of most national differences. Only the languages will be different, but AI will translate it all so we can just watch computer generated slop translated by computer. Yay, progress.

In theory, sure. In practice, I only watch animation from Japan. I've been meaning to watch Mars Express (2023) which someone recommended, but haven't gotten around to it. Guess I just don't care all that much if it isn't from Japan. Might just be related to availability, though. Finding out about and acquiring anime is trivial for me. Unless someone tells me, I won't even know about non-anime and even once I know, getting my hands on them is bothersome. Not that getting them changes anything, as they just go onto the pile of stuff I could watch if I felt like it, which currently includes about 300 anime.

I’m not married to Japan, so yeah, I get in bed with other animation. I even hold my favorite non-Japanese cartoons in a much higher regard then most anime I’ve seen. If you saw my liat, thats not much of a surprise. There’s a lot of s stuff I was very generous towards. I regret almost none of it, but the point still stands.

Absolutely ! While I watch more anime than other countries' animation, I love to discover new artists and shows ! And while I love anime, because like manga, it is very diverse despite the few variations it brings in-between project; other countries animation projects (especially independant ones) are a lot more diverse in their techniques. What I mean by that it that from what I've seen animation is an extremely large and diverse medium but anime isn't that much in comparison to other countries. I could be wrong since I'm not that knowledgeable but I've never seen a japanese paint-on-glass animation, or much japanese stop-motions, or much anime experimenting with different animation techniques at the same time (MP100 or some Bocchi the Rock moments were so cool because of the change of techniques). It the same thing with manga but increased tenfold with manga being almost only in black ink and screentones (with sometime watercolor) or digital black/grey/white lines with sometimes colors (The fully colored manga are from what I've seen digital or watercolored). At the same time bande-dessinée can be a lot more diverse (not alway of course) with their pannelling, or just their techniques (collages, oil painting, drypoint engraving, linocut, colored pencils, felt-tip pens, embroidery, etc.) or even the book subject. And that's why it's so remarkable and amazing to me how some mangaka achieve to be so unique and refreshing while having these restrictions. I also find the casual sarcasm or flatness of tone in some non anime indé shows to be so good like in Wavier Renegade Angel, ENA, Vewn's animations or Pop-Ocalypse🫧.

@perseii I've seen all the films in Tomm Moore's Irish Folklore trilogy (plus "The Breadwinner") and have liked them all, but "Song of the Sea" is my favorite and I would also definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. perseii said: Can you elaborate on this? Ah, that's making things click into place! I wasn't aware that Sylvain Chomet has an upcoming movie (hopefully it gets a release in theaters near me so I can see it), but Madman Films re-uploaded a trailer for "The Illusionist" last month and there were comments about how it was a re-release (not theatrically, but streaming or DVD or something along those lines). Except now I'm not finding any information to back that up and it's making more sense that they put out that trailer just to get his films on people's radar again with the new one coming up.

I include all animated works from other East Asian countries as anime, rather than just exclusively Japanese, so yes, I care about all that as anime, regardless of it comes from China or South Korea instead of Japan. But I also do and have always liked many non-anime/non-East Asian works too. Western cartoons mainly and majority American, but moreso stuff at least a few decades older now rather than super new and recent content. Like, some of my favorite TV series apart from anime are still Western animation/cartoons.
