Yoshino in that dress was....wow. They seemed to have a normal conversation until Kirishima did something weirdly stupid.

And that was not an ending AT ALL. No wrap up, it just abruptly stops.

Can't give it more than 7/10.

My 304th completed series chronologically.

For the record, I extended it a 7/10 rating.

Where is the episode from the intro with Kirishima carrying Yoshino while running and jumping down the stairs?!? That looked like a hell of an episode we'll most likely never get to see! I was robbed, Goddamn it! ROBBED!!! 😡🤬

What an odd place to end. It's like season two is a surety.

@H8drian

That's from chapter 31, from my favorite arc. I swear, if the manga will continue to be in hiatus limbo forever, they should definitely adapt that arc in an OVA. They should also adapt the Yoshino meeting Shouma backstory from the side story chapter: Futari wa Teihen in an special or OVA.

Many times short scenes are included in anime OPs which are animated exclusively for the opening rather than being a clip from any longer scene from the series. Some OPs don't use any clips from the series and all original animation.

I swear, every anime this season ends in a cliffhanger, including this one. Is it hard to give some sense of closure?

Anyway, it's enjoyable, but I'm certainly not the target audience.

I enjoyed the artsyle. While not enough to displace my affinity for 'contemporary moe', it lent itself well for this yakuza themed rom-com.

What happened between the 3 old-guard!? It's like they hate his outward & jovial personality.

Anyways, I'm hoping for another season.

I'm sad this season is over! This one of my favorites for this season.

Crazy that Yoshino gave him the silent treatment. Kirishima's commitment to trying to get her to talk was pure dedication. All the food he made sounded so good. Yoshino looked so cute in her white dress and updo! The lotion scene was unsettling though ngl

I was hoping we'd find out why Kirishima thinks Shoma is being used and a dog to the org.

Genuinely confused about what's going on with the car crash and wanting to get revenge on Renji? Why did they have to end on a damn cliffhanger? Its annoying bc so many anime this season ended with a cliffhanger, why? (Dandandan, I'll become a villainess who goes down in history, and as of right now this one)

8/10 for me, it was a unique and interesting story. The characters were fun to watch. The animation style was rather interesting, but it wasn't horrible. Second lead syndrome is real though. I hope we get a second season

I would think it's because Kirishima doesn't think much of the yakuza, its structure, the hierarchy, its goals. And from my understanding of the yakuza, he's not wrong to think so, especially the lower ranks don't have much a say in what's happening. Kirishima claims he's not part of the yakuza, even if he gets his hands dirty he does it for his own gain (if I rememeber correctly), he has no delusions of being part of a "family". The thing is, the anime omitted Shouma's backstory and left only a cryptic "We choose to stay/be there".

You need the manga to get the backstory and be able to go back and re-read and understand, and even in the manga we haven't reached the conclusion of this.

From what I remember, the publishers once included Shouma’s backstory in one of the volume translations (I can’t remember which language) without the author's permission, and they were justifiably very upset. It's a shame because I love that side story, but this is probably why it was never animated, either. Especially if the rumours are true and the publishers went ahead with making the anime adaption without notifying or consulting the author.

I liked the anime, but that was a weird last episode.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

@samspot8r8s

Sooo, after some soul internet searching and a popular site linking this tweet where the mangaka is abviously promoting the re-edition of the story into a one-shot, at least they seem to be okay with the japanese version, only it says that Renji is slightly different but the rest is canon. I kinda wonder whether the studio even had the rights to adapt it, or the fact that it's not 100% canon stopped them from doing so, or just the way they went for a starightforward adaptation which ignored other vital moments great for characterization meant we wouldn't get it regardless. Because, unless it's about adaptation rights, I doubt they would feel bad upsetting further an already upset mangaka.

I haven't read the official english/japanese volumes, and the side story is being sold separately by ichijinsha, which does belong to kodansha but I wonder whether kodansha owns the rights to it.
