So, I pretty much just bit the bullet today and brought myself a Switch. Works like a charm so far.

But, I’m looking for a second game to get. Currently, I’m playing the Genshin Impact rip-off known as Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Zelda, and I’m enjoying it. But, one game isn’t enough for me and I’m hungry for more.

So far these are the games I’m interested in getting:
- Shin Megami Tensei V
- Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne
- Romancing Saga 2
- Dragon Quest 11: the elusive age
- Metal Gear Solid collection
- Persona 5 (kinda reluctant to get this because of the bad reputation it gets as a problematic game, but it has the best review score out of any jrpg)
- Xenoblade 3
- Star ocean second story
- Gundam Breaker 4

What would you guys recommend for a first time switch player?

All of these games are available on PC, and if not, then there is a very nice offline Nintendo Switch emulator which I've tried but deleted because Nintendo exclusives don't interest me.

I've barely even played my Switch despite having it for a year😅 got one almost purely for Akiba's Trip 2 DC, as the special edition was easier to get on it.
Akiba's Trip 2 DC & Gun Gun Pixies are fun ecchi anime games, if their your things?
Haven't played much else and I've never really been interested in mascot games, least of all Nintendo's.

Idfk Mario Odyssey? A lot of people say it’s the best 3D Mario game (although I personally disagree))

Seems like you’re interested in JRPGs. I think Persona 4 Golden is on the Switch for fairly cheap (~$30?). If you’re apprehensive about Persona 5, maybe try 4 first and see if you vibe with the series (imo 4 has a better story than 5, but 5 is more immersive and ofc better graphics).

If this counts as JRPG, Nintendo remade ‘Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door’ this year, which is probably considered the best Mario RPG. Great battle system and fun memorable story arcs, although some may find it a bit easy.

Since you bought a Nintendo console I'll assume you are okay with platformers. I never owned a Switch, only played it at my uncle's, but if I ever get one I'll get Cave Story for it.

Although looking at Nintendo Store, $30 for an 8 hour long game is a bit steep, even if the experience is totally worth the price.

...and especially because the original shareware version is totally free on PC. So yeah, it's up to you.

Fire Emblem Three Houses. I love that game. Clearly my favorite of all my Switch games and also the one I played the most since it has different story routes.

the bad reputation it gets as a pdf file game

What does that even mean?

Pokemon Legends Arceus! You can run around and get beat up by wild Pokemon. It's very fun.

The No More Heroes games. I haven't played the third yet, but they're pretty fun. I'd say the first is better than the second though. I've had fun with both Hyrule Warriors games as well, but again, imo the first game is better.

@fleurbleue I'm assuming it's referring to the gym teacher. "PDF file" is code for that word that they don't like on here that certain people get accused of being...

I say
Shadowverse Champion battle
P5 Royal
Trails of Daybreak
Ys 8
Ys X
Super mario party jamboree

I did not care for Xenoblade 2 or 3 despite liking 1 and X.

Super Mario Odyssey
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Idk I don't play my Switch much these days.

I can recommend the Metal Gear Master collection on the merits of the games themselves, but I'm not sure about the Switch version's performance. Also if you're going to allow your perception of Persona 5 be influenced by people on Twitter who manufacture outrage, that's you're prerogative, but it's a really silly reason to miss out on it.

This ground is soiled by those before me and their lies. I dare not look up for on me I feel their eyes
