It was expected given how early it is in the story but I still felt genuinely really bad seeing Taiki lose especially that early, I really like how they revealed it incredibly abruptly to the point where we barely process it alongside Taiki. Even if streamlined in focus compared to other sports series that actually put focus on the games this is hitting all those right notes of an underdog sports series where I'm really rooting for the lead, it just has the added bonus where the romance outside of that also feels kind of like an underdog story youre rooting for.

Jizzy as you would call yourself because youre a dick The most butthurt award goes to you And clearly you havent watched that many shows thats why you cant determine if a show is unique or not Or maybe you're just a child who likes common stuffs where hero saves the day and guys gets all the girls. Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me

I was expecting Taiki to at least win one, singles or doubles, and lose the other. Losing both is a real gut punch, but it make sense. You don't want to have him reach his goal too quickly.

Too bad Taiki and Haryuu ended up losing. Hina was so adorable bringing food to Taiki. I like Chinatsu a lot, but I like Hina even more. Unfortunately, we all know the fate of childhood friends.

@Johnprays

Taiki wrote, "I'll definitely get my smashes in."
Chinatsu wrote next to it, "and I'll definitely make my shots."

Finally exploring more of the actual plot of the story, he fails, he realised he couldn't keep his word with her. Just his sheer emotions towards failure and coming face to face with it was genuinely so nice to see. I hope more of his character is shown rather than just him being a shy hardworking forward minded boy and I want the romance to be spicier make this love triangle entertaining and I dont think it will happen but just add another character in the love mix to cause some chaos cause why not man

This episode is the epitome of that old ABC's Wide World of Sports slogan "the Thrill of Victory, the Agony of Defeat."

Gosh, I feel bad for him. Does this mean he'll be too scared to ask her out now??

This was predictable … they lose every important match, and by a lot of points.

This anime is not about enveloping the audience into the sport, basketball or badminton, it is about putting their characters into overly serious dramatic situations so their “feelings” are shown and get in the way.

At least show them have a better match and put up a good fight, not get their butts handed to them, which makes them winning next time, look even more impossible and unrealistic.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

It's a shame that the romance anime is a romance anime, but it also has sports and the studio literally only animates semi-static scenes. For the very disappointing game scenes, I wanted a little more care. I can already see that all the games are going to have a crappy adaptation.

Blue Box is a perfect mix of sports, romance, and comedy and it dives into themes that other sports anime do not. I have had the pleasure of both reading and watching this series, and this adaptation, so far, is beautiful.

It’s really devastating to set yourself to a lofty goal (make nationals) and then fail way sooner than you ever thought you would have. The rather blank reaction Taiki had at first is so realistic to that type of thing happening. I really felt for him.
