There are multiple factors to consider to which a specific age is not necessarily a good indicator.

None because if your parents are sick you should take care of them and that mean them living with you instead of the other way around. Also if your parents give in heritage a generational house it's normal that they live there.

i think this is a first world problem because here in a poor country its normal for extended families to live in the same house due to how expensive houses are here

I was still living with my parents when in my early 30s, basically until they both passed away :/
I thought it was embarrassing, but don't have any other alternatives. Didn't have much money or anywhere else to go, and I felt safest with my parents, although they were very protective and didn't prepare me for life without them.

I think it comes down to circumstances and culture rather than age, my situation isn't totally unusual in my country or in others.

@deg Houses are getting so expensive even in America. If you live in my city, there are not a lot to be found for under 600'000CAD.
You can't easily manage a 3000CAD per month mortgage payment if you're not in a relationship and both don't have more than decent salaries.

I'm going to be 34 in a month and I've never left. I never wanted to live on my own, and I stopped caring what others think/stopping being "embarrassed" years ago.

In our culture, it's pretty much normal to stay with one's parents until death. Rather people expect you to do that. You would be frowned upon and be criticized if you let them be alone.

If you're contributing something to the household financially or at very least caring for a parent/your parents or siblings I think it's okay at any age really. You're doing something worthwhile with your life and that's all that matters.

16. Being a virgin also gets embarrassing at 16. Basically that's how this cruel species works, your body expects you to have your shit together by 16 otherwise it gives you schizophrenia as punishment.

After they are dead would be kind of embarrassing to live with their corpses.

At none, because that's just modern and specifically capitalist or western sentiment. My grandma has been long married when her own mother lived with them.
I guess it depends how well you get along and how many rooms you have.

With the high prices, I don't think it's embarrassing to live with your parents until you're around 35. By 35 you should have a steady income and be able to pay rent or mortgage.
"When clouds appear, wise men put on their cloaks;
When great leaves fall, the winter is at hand;
When the sun sets, who doth not look for night?
Untimely storms make men expect a dearth."

@fleurbleue It's not just houses apartment as well. You know much apartment rent cost back when I lived in the OC? 3000 a month for one bed room.

Multigenerational households are pretty neat. As long as you have a job and or contribute than it is not embarrassing. Living with your parents is not embarrassing, being a manchild is.

none, so long as you're not a NEET. housing is fucked at the moment, so as long as you're contributing & your parents don't mind having you around, it's actually quite a smart thing to do to live with family until you've saved up enough.

@Amityblight Oof, that's insane. In Montreal downtown for less money then that you can get a 4½.

It's not as embarrassing as annoying, I wouldn't last a single day.

No idea, but judging by others, people seemed to prefer to stay with their parents until they get married (at least that was how it was where I grew up).

I personally haven't lived in the same place for more than 2-3 years after the age of 16.

@fleurbleue I don't feel bad for Californians. They keep voting against rent control. Owning house is pipe in that state unless you want something completely fucked up or illegal.

And what’s embarrassing for an adult who lives with his parents when you seemingly ignored factors that led to what it is?

(1) The cost of living
(2) The number of children parents have, or they just have one child
(3) Who really gonna look after parents when they grow old and weak?

I don't think it's ever embarrassing. It really depends.
