Welp, this conquest arc has reached its peak.

Ars using his improved abilties leads the army but they had fierce resistance. It was a risky and calculated tactic this episode but Ars wasn't afraid to exercise his skills. Kinda impressive really.

Lupa is hot but too bad he already has a wife, I still wish his wife survive though, but from the preview of the next episode it looks like someone died, I hope it's not him. Luckily this show still has a parade of other hot guys including the newly introduced characters: leader of mercenary group Clamant and the enemy's captain of cavalry Dan.

This is quite good episode but there is still one part that makes my blood raise. While Ars is doing brave actions here, but irritately Fam is making questionable decision there. Why did he let that lord's wife doing as she pleased without thinking it's inefficient under that situation? No matter how you look at it, letting the pregnant woman moves first is the only right decision, if the normal girl is last he could have mobilized normal girl way easily than pregnant woman, he is experienced in this kind of work but makes this simple mistake, i can't believe it. Yeah i know, this is just plot device/convenience or smth like that, but this is still stupid.

The direction of this episode is quite a mess especially during the battle scene and the retreat scene, character placements and movements are all over the place, it's really confusing to watch.

some of the action animations are pretty smooth tho, the tiniest compliment I can give.

On the other hand if they started arguing about that this would eat even more time. And if Fam decided to forcefully bring her first that could scare others.

Yeah the backgrounds were really basic during some moments too.

The sincerely integrity and bravery, which inspires loyalty, you don't see that today.

While I am enjoying the amazing anime story, you judgmental people are nitpicking at the art / animation, which is the exact reason I don't listen to your opinions / reviews / ratings.

You all think that your unfair opinions are more important and you criticize only so you can stand out, rather than giving an honest critique of the overall anime.

The art / animation is more than fine, it is good for what needed to be shown, it does not need to perfect, no complaints from me.

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

@shiro-seishun "plot device" maybe possible, but we need to see what happens in the next episode.

However in studying history, this is how good leaders, male and female / husband and wife, will conduct themselves.

Being the female leader over the people, her first concern is to save her people, even when the offer of her going first is suggested, she is willing to sacrifice herself to save her people, and this is only counterattacked by the insistence of the people to save their leaders, but the women did not speak up, they took the opportunity to escape first, even while knowing that she was with child. I'd fault the women for not speaking up to convince their pregnant leader to go first.

Look at how her husband responded, he ignored Ars' suggestion to stay out of the fight to preserve his own life, he felt compelled to assist the person that would go so far as to sacrifice his own life to save another man's wife, or to offer his own life up if he failed, the leader could not just sit by, because he felt it was the right thing to do.

It was really refreshing to see this type of writing, having good leadership and sincere integrity, which follows historical examples.

I felt no real urgency during this scene. You are basically escaped or at least out of the castle, so why does it feel like a fight is going to happen next?

The battle is happening because of the premise that mages are weaker in close combat, but at 10:25 Charlotte could have just nuked the enemy force while they were standing still blobbed up almost ASKING to be nuked. Guess she couldn't break through their plot shield.

Also, the plan makes no sense. The majority of Ars' troops are infantry and cannot possibly outrun the enemy cavalry to the forest. They would be slaughtered in the retreat, meaning that the "ambush" would be 5000 new troops attacking a numerically far stronger enemy which had already wiped out half of Ars' entire force. The anime just seems to conveniently forget the infantry even exists all of a sudden, making the chase scene entirely cavalry, but at that point they should have already lost. They didn't need to be saved by Lukas because the plan fell apart, they needed to be saved because it was a terrible plan to begin with.

Pretty good episode, with a decent amount of suspense. Those horse jumps though by Dan & Jean. Well, it is a Fantasy series I guess. LOL

The season was going well, but this episode is complete crap. Everything after the retreat is meaningless garbage. The direction from which the arrows arrive (which by the way pierce heavy armor as if it were nothing) makes absolutely no fucking sense, the speed with which the enemy reached the main character's army, the places from where the enemy appeared, the times between one event and another. In conclusion, it's complete crap.

I like Ars’s determination. Even though everyone believed that the battle is over and they were going to be defeated, Ars still had a flame burning inside and something did not let him give up!

Ars is so lucky to have Rietz, Charlotte, Mireille, Rossel and others by his side!

You can always trust Rosell to come up with a great plan.
It worked pretty well for most of it, they did lost quite a few forces though.
Lupa coming to help was really cool.
Now just hoping The Shadows can save all the women.

I have ADD, ADHD & AUTISM, but this won't stop me. Let's keep having fun together.

Yes, I have to agree with you. I’m watching this with my brain off, but even then, it gets annoying. What’s the point of wearing armor if arrows can just pierce through it?

Yes, that’s one thing I feel needs improvement. Charlotte is heavily underutilized in the story. Rietz and Rosell play important roles in battle after battle, but Charlotte has mostly been sidelined. Aside from breaking a castle’s barrier in a past episode, her offensive magic is rarely used—except for the occasional small fireball.

Lupa line was so timely. Or maybe it's just always significant.

@Sokah You mean the literal generals of armies and their right hand men? WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?!?!?

Besides that stupid comment, this episode was great. No idea why the hostages are moving slower than molasses.

@ Studio Mother just don't do big battles your animators clearly have no talent for it. Also get them to reference some real life armour. No helmet EVER exposed the ears like that. It looks so stupid.

If the protagonist dont use mercenary in the next episode, i will be piss off and drop this anime! More I watch, clearer it becomes. The protagonist is useless, because of being too nice aint realistic. The director also didnt do a good here, the battle doesnt make any sense strategically and visually and because of this Ars seems stupid and wasted his troop for nonsense.

This episode was really good; there was more blood, and it felt more like a war, unlike other episodes where Ars' group's plans always went smoothly and without injury.

Ars can be very naive when it comes to battles, but he always gains allies because he prioritizes others, like Lupa, who will be a great ally. I just hope in the next episode they ask Clamant for help, who is really strong.

They didn't forget the infantry existed. They fielded half infantry and half cavalry so that when the time came to retreat they could double up on the horses.

That's also why the enemy cavalry can get ahead of them; their horses are carrying less weight, both in people and in armour.

While the battle scenes were not the best animated I thought that the suspense was great and I wasn't expecting Lupa to come out so that was a nice surprise. Unfortunately since the enemy saw that Lupa has switched sides they immediately gave the order to kill the hostages so hopefully Pham is able to get them out although it looks like he may have to fight for his life...

Is there even any point in asking why Charlotte couldn’t just wipe out their army? Like... why did they even bring her to the battlefield in the first place? The mages in this story seem so OP, but then they suddenly become useless for no apparent reason.
