Imo, the art, itself, is pretty average, but the art direction is the best I've seen since Heavenly Delusion, imo. I just wanted to ask if anyone else agrees, and if there's a specific reason behind it.

I completely agree with how amazing this one's was. It's just beautiful and captures the show perfectly. I am also delighted that someone is mentioning the masterpiece of art *and* art direction, which is Heavenly Delusion. I didn't see enough people talking about it, so this is much appreciated.

I agree, this one is going above and beyond for a show of this kind. These cinematography and editing styles are very unusual in anime, but it is a hella efficient way to exploit a low budget to the max while still retaining a high standard of artistic quality overall. Definitely not what I expected from this kind of premise.

It's basically a movie (maybe art-housy ones) direction transplanted into the anime that is why it looks so striking. It is interesting but I have constantly the though, okey why this is not live actor movie? But I am not saying its bad, tbh it is the most interesting thing that is released this season.

The art direction for a premise we’ve gotten before makes this series a lot more intriguing. I just went to know more about the characters and why they function the way they do.

it adds some realness to the scenes, ep 3 had some of the best yet: talking in that tunnel, diary monologue and the part right after that are really good. But somehow i think it'll only get better, high hopes ik. (⁠ﾉ⁠*⁠0⁠*⁠)⁠ﾉ

In the context this is coming from a studios that FELL so much in the past decade, it is amazing they are pulling it off, it looks really good, the most polished anime from Deen for a long time lol.

It helps a lot, especially when considering how stacked the season is with animated shows. Interesting to analyze and discuss about and honestly, it helps makes the most out of very little which is impressive in its own right as long as it continues to be purposeful and not take away from the characters or go way too far against what the books are presenting tonally.

Yes, it is at once minimalistic with live TV series like interior shots with almost no camera movement and austere interior desing and at the same time it tries hard to build up an amotspheric mood using different technics like moody lighting or the old handcam-like shots we got now. And it does it not just with its animation, but with its background music and enviromental sound-design as well. In the third episode, the soundtrack was very calm, atmosperic and relaxing; in spite of its simplicity it draw my attention to itself.

If this is the best art direction you have seen since Heavenly Delusion then you need to watch more series.... There are plenty of series this season with better art direction than this. Yes, this one is fine, but it is hardly the best.

I’ve already way better art direction in the likes of Makeine and Shoshimin from just this season. Comparing this to Heavenly Delusion seems like a very misguided stance, tbh.

This was literally before those started. And I mostly made this thread because it was surprising to see this for a show of this kind.
