Well, that was one clusterf*ck of an ending, it didn't any of the questions. Anyways, maybe Ai saved Koito so that's a thing.

Animation was alright, character developement was there, the execution wasn't done properly. I also hesitated and think I would give a higher than 3/10 after I watch the special ep but nope. both get 3/10. Nothing was explained, nothing made sense in the end, it just felt like a lot of valid information was missed. So far what we know is that 2 of those guys made an AI loli that went sentient that she possibly killed everyone, but it doesn't explain how or when.
Poorly executed. good animation and op/ed is fire, the character's were fine too but the way the story went was just missing.

Very disappointed. Animation was promising but turned not that great. Another pseudo-philosophical nonsense which offers no closure at all IMO.

Ai on EP1: "The only friend I had has killed herself, I must know what led her to end her life."

Ai on EP12 "Now I don't want to know lol screw the audience."

Man this feels so incomplete. IF ONLY I had that at least despite the... uh... whatever the mess of a story that was.

Just imagine, the A.I. acts like a worst type of human but for what reason since it had beforehand prescribed personality and LLM just cannot change it on its own? Oh wait, she is more like a typical homunculus in fact and so called 'science' here is no better than an alchemy - absolutely ridiculous. Why would A.I. become all salty, envious and jealous? A.I. wouldn't bother that much about other daughters and be all positive about more people around, the only way to make LLM act so awful is put some instructions in its 'head' beforehand. Why would A.I. kill anyone? Oh wait, it's just a typical story line about insecure homunculus since A.I. couldn't have any of that... Why would A.I. push some random girls to a suicide? Zero reasons. How could A.I. spread all these cables and connectors while was in a basement and closed in tight space? It's impossible unless we imagine the A.I. as a homunculus or even a witch with mystical powers. How is it even possible for A.I. to control other people and their mood and reasoning? It's impossible, it's just an A.I. and authors lost an opportunity to use an excuse as 'A.I. created fake forums and fake online people to influence girls online!'. How could A.I. become a part of some astral space of dreams or whatever (thanks, CloverWorks, you did a 'great' job at explaining of what kind space it is) especially when A.I. is dead? It's simply impossible and never clarified but for authors it's just it is what it is. I start thinking that some religious people are right about all these atheistic 'fans of science' when said that 'science TM' became a new religion since most of times people won't even ask questions like it's about blind believing to 'apostles' from science. Same goes for fans which act like apologists of all possible screw ups and fails by authors like author is divine entity and its sacral vision won't tolerate any doubts from mere mortals. But the thing all of us are simple people and not so different from each other so I clearly see missed plot opportunities made by 'just people' since it's so difficult in case of this anime and since this plot is not Sacred Writings.

Re-watch

I'm glad I can understand this anime better after re-watching it after three years but, some of the concepts still confuse me. Like how did Frill hacks the girls dream? What actually happened to Himari that leads her to death? Also I need proper explanation about the parallel world. This episode is so packed about that yet I can't grasp anything about it.

And... yeah, for me personally it wasn't as bad as I remember. The animation was great though I remember they're having some production issues. The story was going too far from the original theme; it goes like from a psychological to a sci-fi? And the no-closure and being nonsensically philosophic lol, I don't hate it though.

Pulled myself to finish this, if I'm to be frankly honest here. I know a lot of people loved the first 6-8 episodes, depending on who you ask, but that too was about fine-to-good for me. And then throw in the massive downgrade from there on to the conclusion here with all the incomprehensible developments, I've to settle for a 5/10 here...

CloverWorks gave it their all with the audiovisual elements though, no complaints there. It's just the story and the ambitious attempt to change genre gears that left a lot to desire.

This is just disastrous, or as @TenshiTobacco would say, an abomination.

CloverWorks got the short end of the stick right from the start with Darling in the FranXX, Neverland S2, and now this.

@NextUniverse whatever the word is now, it's indefinitely final.

Original anime just isn't allowed to stick the ending anymore, I got enough enjoyment out of the series that I can't dislike it, I even have a very high view on it despite the ending, but man this could have been so much better with 2 more episodes.
I fully agree, and I can wrap around my head on that ONE Sakugabooru article that nails this point home very critically with original anime (this and Sk8). It's just not viable from both a production and money standpoint to create original anime anymore.

That is one of the saddest things I have ever heard. And also makes no sense, technically every story is original. They all start from nothing, there is no reason a good story has to start as a LN or manga first before it can be a good anime. The fact that bad original stories become bad original anime doesn't mean that original anime can't be good. That's just circular reasoning.

weird ending, let's hope the extra episode explains it more but judging by the bad ratings, I'm not holding my breath... I think it was overall a great watch, just felt rushed at the end, perhaps with a few more episodes they would have more time to explain things properly and the viewers wouldn't have to be left confused.

So in a parralel world Ai killed herself? That's some deep stuff. I love how much suicide is talked about in this show. It's a topic we need more anime about. We need more anime about mental health and all those sorts of struggles. Anyway that Ai died in the wonder egg world too so whatever. And Koito is back so yay but they disappeared just like it did for Rika And Momoe. Special episode that everyone hates for some reason here i come.

I'd be totally satisfed if this was the ending. Wrapped up its themes and Ai's arc in a very satisfactory manner. She now has the will to live, even in parallel universes. But we all know anime fans need extremely explicit endings that tie every plot threads together, otherwise their throw a tantrum, so lets see what the special has in store for us. I highly doubt it'll be the EoE of Wonder Egg, but who knows?

Solid 8/10, awesome animation, cool OSTs, the characters were endearing, and it was genuine.

Ok, well this was just nonsense.
Honestly, the previous episode with its bizarre Frankenstein-esque plot twist was one of the only episodes I actually enjoyed. It’s a shame that none of that crazy stuff was implemented well at all, and we instead get a mess of weird, random garbage slapped together for a finale.
Can’t imagine the pain of watching this as it aired.

Rushed. Left a lot of things unexplained. It was like the girls set out on a mission and didn't really accomplish anything at the end. The first couple of episodes were great, but I had to push myself to finish the rest.
