Yeah, it's understandable that one group hates or dislikes her. But in the same way it's understandable that others like her, at the end of the day "liking" or "preferring" is something very subjective and as I said I don't think it's necessary to judge her actions since she's a fictional character, but you had a hard time understanding that someone would like her and I think that's a bit closed minded.

Makima is a favorite character (one among the top 10 you can list in your profile from ALL of anime & manga) for more than 27000 users! And Power, for 21000.
This alone should prove my point that for a SIGNIFICANT number of viewers/readers out there, a 'favorite character' does NOT need to be a "good person" at all. Heck, just think of how incredibly popular The Joker from Batman is, or any other great villain (who had done HORRIFIC things) like Griffith, Doflamingo, Aizen, Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, Tyler Durden etc. ALL of these characters are more interesting, better written, & therefore more likely to be someone's favorite than a boring, one-dimensional, 'nice boy/girl' like Orihime from Bleach, Sakura from Naruto, etc
