| Really just depends, go on twitter and have a look at that sort of stuff. The names you see popping up all the time probably have large enough patreons to support renting a small place and living expenses. Those that do commissions too probably more since they can charge some damn high prices for those, since you know, who else are you going to ask? |

| Stuff like Patreon and Pixiv fanbox where people subscribe to get their exclusive stuff exists. And also some hentai magazines will sell millions of copies sometimes. I'm not talking about doujins here (self published work), but actual magazines which compile chapters into a full volume. |

| Popular artists get tons of commission requests and they get paid a fat ton of money for them. As for doujin, you can see a lot of artists have fanbox where you can subscribe to read it. Looking at their robust setups, I think they make a lot of money, more than to make meets end. This is purely my opinion, not backed up by proper and official studies or research. Don't quote me on it. |
