Damn this episode hit right in the feels. I honestly feel so bad for Arnheid. Her va is doing a fantastic job in portraying her helplessness. Gardar finally realising was also a great moment. And obviously the Snake vs Thorfinn fight was also good. Them praising each other caught me off guard tho lol.

First off.. the Thorfinn vs Snake fight was amazing, Thorfinn showing his skills against Sanke that actually made Snake recognise his strength.

Gardar's life flashing before his eyes was sad. He did everything on his behalf to protect his family, for a moment really thought snake died at that moment.

RIP Gardar

Again, great episode overall. A perfect send-off for Gardar with great visuals & osts

The opening action sequence was some of the best & fluid character choreography this season. Snake & Thorfinn are both very agile fighters and they both agree with same conflicting questions on their current respective situations. Snake actually manages to stab Gardar before nearly getting choked to death barred from Arnhed's intervention. That whole thing felt a choppy at first and i was a bit confused but it all made sense as the episode progressed

The somber setting & osts were definitely swaying my perception of Gardar, in light of the current storyline and his relationship with his son & wife definitely parallels Thors and his family albeit gone a bit horribly wrong. He's one of those who were tempted by glory and lost everything before realising their grave mistakes. His backstory took quite a chunk of the episode which was dragging a bit but they really got me near the end there im ngl. A perfect send-off for a character that played a pivotal role for Arnhed & her character going forward. I visibly choked myself when he finally reunited with his son in the afterlife. Masterful writing yet again!!! ~~~

Thorfinn vs Snake was peak, I love how both of them realized that each of them is a great warrior. And I love how Snake got confused how a man as skilled as Thorfinn ended up as a slave, and how Thorfinn is questioning why a man as strong as Snake is a mere farm guard. Mappa animated the whole sequence amazingly.

It's sad that every side is correct now. Snake can't just let go the man who killed 5 of his people. And it seems that he genuinely valued those men. It isn't about money...

Gardar's sendoff was pretty sad.

Interesting to see how this episode was going from the best moment of the seasons so far, to the worst moment of the season.
The fight was epic, but the second part had to much gardar for me.

5 minutes into this episode, I felt this whole subplot has been emotionally contrived. By the end of it, I have become a weepy, hysterical mess.

This episode packed a powerful punch, hitting my emotions like a speeding truck. Gardar's final voyage unfolded in tragic waves that left me utterly devastated. The moment he snapped out of his murderous rage, upon hearing Arnheid's plan to visit their son, and spoke with surprising politeness to Thorfinn and Sverkel (Old Master), was truly remarkable. It showcased his profound transformation and the depths of his remorse. In the midst of his journey, Gardar's dreams of his family resurfaced, revealing the true cost of his greed and igniting a newfound determination to shield his son from repeating his mistakes. Symbolically, the road he traversed represented his life path, while the cart embodied his life force. As he rode along the road, an eerie chill settled over him, inching him closer to the clutches of death, until the cart and his existence came to a gradual halt.

This episode just had everything that is so great about Vinland Saga. The incredible Snake vs Thorfinn fight was more than just your average anime fight; it was a climax of the ideologies at play in the series so far and a key moment for both Thorfinn and Snake as characters, but as with Vinland Saga as a whole for me, the action wasn't the highlight. Gardar's story is a tragedy and the worst part is that he's just a normal guy. This is the second anime episode I've ever cried in and it's not even the part I cried in in the manga, so I guess I have that to look forward to too.

I don't know if I'm reading too much into it, but the whole ending of the episode was essentially the catholic version of purgatory, with the ending showing that Gardar finally goes to heaven. When I saw the bright colors I knew it was some sort of "afterlife" and I kept whispering to myself that if I see that kid here, I'm going to lose it. The whole implication I got was that the kid was in Heaven but was waiting for his father and I knew that's where it was going, but when it happened, I just lost it...

That was such an emotional episode. Gardar died from his wounds and is finally at peace. Poor Arnheid had to witness it. At least she was there by his side, during his final moments. She doesn't have anyone left now. I wonder what kind of punishment she'll receive. Doesn't seem like Ketil will be too happy to hear all this.

Thorfinn was doing so damn well against Snake even though he was unarmed and rusty after not fighting for so many years.

I wonder if Hjalti is even alive.

Thorfinn and Snake fight was something else especially since Thorfinn was fighting without a weapon.

Gardar is build of iron cause damn, he was still able to stand up after being stabbed to his wound.

He’s dying, but at least he can die feeling free with his wife. Well, I’m sobbing again, these backstory just keep getting me emotional.

And all of this happened to them because they wanted more wealth, when they were fine with what they had.

He’s been waiting for them for five years.

I loved seeing Thorfinn fight. Bro was still so strong even without his blades if he had blades he could have done some serious damage. The way he and Snake were complimenting each other mentally was amazing. Snake realised that Thorfinn allowed his men to live when they were cutting him😂😂 not that he couldn't fight back. Snake is right though Thorfinn grew up around absolute monsters and demons no wonder he is so strong. On the other hand, Snake is military so I understand why Snake would be more curious about what type of life someone needs to lead without being in the military to get this strong. Gardar on the other hand is an undying demon🤣🤣🤣 Even though he was so seriously injured he took out so many people.
Seeing the life he could have led and the life he did lead was night and day.
I genuinely feel sorry for him Gardar was a good man. Just made one mistake which was trying to get iron that destroyed his life.

Strongly implied dead, the scene they showed was him being taken away from Arnheild by the raiders. While it could mean he might still be alive, I think they just wanted to avoid showing the toddler's death on screen.

Even if Gardar didn't leave for that war for iron, he would've been the only man left in their village and the vikings would still attack and he'll likely be killed that way. Moral of the story is that there's no such thing as happy ending for anyone in this show lol
