the whole z story line (since there's so many) with arnheid is so unbelievably boring and i've yet to see how it relates to larger things going on. it felt like a few episodes back things were starting to develop in certain ways only for us to get massive whiplash with a whole new story wrench in the machine. very disappointing.
there has only been 3 story line so far whch is Thorfinn, Canute and now Arnheid. What do you mean there's so many story line? If you're not seeing the bigger picture to this then why assume it serves no purpose? did you skip thorfinn's development up to this point and why he's involved?

The episode was kinda good and finally, an episode with the main characters that isn't about cutting lumbers and shit. I still don't like the OST that much, I'm talking about the piano music in the background, I already complained about this before in the previous episodes but the piano music in this season sounds like the pianist is improvising on the spot and I don't like these type of music since they lack melody, I rather have a beautiful piano piece with melody like Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, Steins;Gate, Re:Zero, etc... the piano pieces in those anime are full of melody and that's my jam, I simply don't like how this season of Vinland Saga is doing it with that piano.

And on the good side, the 2nd opening is awesome, the more I hear it the more I'm loving it, this is probably my favorite opening in Vinland Saga.

Please don't make Einar act stupid for the rest of the anime/manga when Arnheid is involved because that would be lame, 6.1/10.

As expected, Snake was able to handle the whole situation with Gardar and capture him afterwards. And also, if I can understand Einar's perspective, but he should know better what consequences this would have not only for Arnheid, but for himself as well. Luckily Thorfinn found the right words to bring him to his senses. Not to mention the fact that Einar can hardly imagine what it means to want to kill someone.

Arnheid's backstory was nothing but depressive. As a mother, she had to go through what is probably the most painful experience, namely losing her child, or rather, having it taken away. While Gardar gave the reason that it would upset the balance in the area if Yngve got the iron, certain precautions should have been taken. In a time where villages are being attacked, plundered and women as well as children are being sold as slaves, this is something that should be known. In retrospect, of course, it is easy to say this, since nothing could have happened either.

With Arnheid being pregnant with Ketil's child she shouldn't put herself in danger, which makes the situation all the more complicated. While she said she wanted to ride out the storm, Sverkel's story, in which he also made a wrong decision, encouraged her to do the opposite. It's hard to predict exactly what may happen to Gardar from now on. Though if I'm being honest it probably won't be a good thing. Not to mention, Canute is already on his way to the farm. That means chaos is inevitable.

After listening to the opening and the ending again, I really have to say that both sound beautiful.

Arnheid's backstory is ;( As war story goes, the men gotta fight while women became the household, and there goes the reality of it, many lives are taken away.

Arnheld's backstory is depressing to witness. She just wanted to live a normal life in the village with both her son and Gardar.
The blasted vikings ruined everything. Raiding and burning down her village. Along with taking away her son. Arnheld's blood curdling scream as she reached out to her son gave me goosebumps. What a devastating loss. There was no one to protect the women back at the village because all the men gathered with Gardar to battle at the marsh for iron.
This is the calm before the storm.

Idk at this point why I should call Ketil a good man. I pitty him. He's terrible parent to his sons then wonders why they act so recklessly; robbed Arhneid of her happiness and freedom, uses her for his carnal desires or to suit his mental state in his lowest then he somehow thinks these slaves should be thankful to him. Yeah, no.

Truly the slaves suffer in this show.

Einar was ready to fight for Arhneid. He truly loves her. Also the conversation of Sverkel and Arnheid was pretty good.

Snake was pretty good in fighting as usual.5/5 episode.

Ya know after watching Berserk '97 and FMA: Brotherhood and Iron-Blooded Orphans, I didn't think I could ever find a more depressing anime. Then Vinland Saga came along. Like damn, you can't even have a tiny moment of happiness without some pitch-black stuff popping up. They definitely do not gloss over or romanticize the era the characters live in. I am not one who likes slow-burn anime either, I prefer action every episode, but I have to say this season has been excellent so far. Even without action sequences, I find myself engaged by the story. Looking forward to the next episode.

Better? In what way? I guess he was more of a badass and entertaining to watch in action scenes, but in terms of character development, in S1 Thorfinn was a little flat—the angry kid obsessed with getting revenge for his father's murder, which he couldn't really have stopped anyway. In my opinion, Askeladd was the main character of season 1. Far more compelling and complex personality/motivations. He really stole the show, to the very end when he lopped Sweyn's head off. Now Thorfinn is getting his chance to be more than just a rage-killing machine in this arc.

I guess I'm an outlier on the music, the piano during the flashbacks gave me the impression of the show thinking it was an addition needed to draw tears from the viewer.  I simply felt like it was trying to manipulate me, that the content wasn't enough on its own.

3.5/5

A storm is definitely brewing in the story now. We got backstories for both Arnheid and Sverkel which went well with the themes of storms in this episode. The character animations & sound designs were prominent highlights

Gardar & Arnheid apparently had a son and used to live a pleasant life back in Sweden. He's a shadow of a man he used to be and is put down in his place swiftly by Snake. The action sequences were fluidly animated. Einar wants to intervene but Thorfinn stops his pursuit with all the right questions

The cinematography in latter half of the episode was a visual delight. Arnheid reveals her pregnancy which is sure to create more conflicts in the story. Her backstory was tragic which is why she wants to move on but her past still keeps her confined in the STORM. After Sverkel reveals his own battles with the storm, Arnheid still plunges head into the storm. The heart wants what it wants!!

Good episode. I didn't prefer two back to back backstories in a row but sometimes it be like that. See ya'll next week~~

Gardar was definitely inspired by Guts - the way he was sleeping in the woods with his sword as a post, his rage, brutal fighting style and position as a lone wolf

I really liked the part where Thorfinn stopped Einar from attacking Snake. Einar is such an idiot. Thorfinn questioning his ability to kill hits hard considering... well.. the whole first season.

Although I don't get to see Thorfinn fight as much, this is turning into like an interesting philosophical angle. Also, really shows a new angle of how messed up war can turn
