| Why would they be fat? Magic usually replaces electricity in those settings. We use electricity to power a ton of tools that do everything for us and still aren't all fat. Assuming you can afford it all, your washing machine washes your clothes (which used to be a super strenuous task), your dishwasher does your dishes, your roomba cleans your home, your smart assistant turns on the lights, heating, or switches music and TV to your simple voice command without the need to get up and do it yourself, you can order groceries and communicate over great distances with your smartphone without even leaving your couch, and if you do decide to go somewhere, you can get there comfortably without having to put in any physical effort, just sit some more on a bus, train or car. Your work can commonly be summed up as "sit in front of a PC for x hours" for a lot of people nowadays too. And yet we aren't all fat. Gaining weight is ultimately (excluding illnesses and stuff) just an excess of energy intake. If you live a very seditary lifestyle (be it through modern conveniences or magic), you just need to eat less than someone who does hard physical labour everyday. Or they could just speed up and slow their metabolism using magic 🤷♀️ Not like there's any limit to the imagination, lol. |

| Sometimes just being on your feet often can help you from not being as fat. Too many people sit around and eat large portions and fatty foods, so that's why they're fat. |

To be honest, I believe people in Medieval Age possessed better body shape than most Americans and Europeans and Africans and Asians nowadays. | No, because not everyone in fantasy worlds uses magic. Some focus more on archery, some fight with swords, and even the ones who do use magic are generally pretty physically active. The characters who are fat are usually nobles or kings. Lazy people in high positions of power. |
| people in real life who do less, like working in front of computer sitting all day are not fat, most japanese salaryman are not fat, most asian people are not fat in general, and people in fantasy anime actually do more work, they walk around and dont have cars or ubers, and magic require energy (mana). so yeah if even most human population on earth are not fat i dont see why the one in fantasy anime should. after all the regular average normal human being are not the fat ones but the normal ones. |
