So do you think we can get a season 2 on this anime?
Personally I think it's the best one airing right now, what do you think?

Won't the staff be busy with Mushoku Tensei? And besides, as amazing as Onimai is, I wouldn't exactly say it's popular.

Yea, looking at the ratings and members, this anime probably won't be highlighted much.

It doesn’t matter if it’s popular outside of Japan if Japanese fans don’t like it they will most likely not make a season two for it it just depends I’m hoping for a season 2 there’s enough source material for it.

Would be nice, but I don't think there are plane for that as of now.
Final episode will adapt the famous Onsen chapter (if you know, you know), so I think they want to leave it at that upbeat note.

if there is a season 2 then we have to wait again for its release, and it will definitely be long time to wait. Right?

It's popular in Japan, it's in the top 5 for streaming numbers on Abema. (I think it was 4th last week).

In anikode is the most rated anime, not film, this winter season.

Would be surprised if the show didn't get a sequel. Over here in the west it's pretty small, nor is liked a lot, but in Japan it's one of the most popular anime lately. And we know that Japan measures success almost solely based on domestic numbers. I'm also not "too" worried about Studio Bind. The studio was founded for the sole purpose of adapting Mushoku Tensei which, from the outside speaking, doesn't look to be on a very tight production cycle. The fact that they took on this project with MT S2 being well into production suggests that much.

Overseas popularity actually does help an anime get a sequel.

Character designer Ryo imamura himself tweeted that he is looking for a Pv/CM work after onimai soo Nope don’t expect season 2 any soon maybe it will take a long decade lol since these staffs tends to jump on new projects frequently leaving the former projects.

Studio wasn’t founded solely for creating MT, these things should be taken into face value when Wit also started as a studio which solely known for creating Attack on Titan & now you can see them with various things on top of dropping AOT. Barely any MT staffs participated in onimai apart from some KA. Onimai is mostly made up of connections of Director Shingo fuji & CD imamura who are responsible for attracting some popular animators to participate in this project so it wasn’t a difficult task for them to pull this project while MT is also in production & Moreover Onimai was already in pre production stage when Shingo fuji made Pv for MT season 1 pre animated trailer.

Good shot for a season 2.  It's the most popular anime this season in Japan.  It will come down to merch, BD, and streaming numbers in Japan since it is not popular in the West but Onimai is leading all other seasonal anime in BD preorders, merch sales (actually competing with Bochi the Rock), and probably streaming by now.  The problem is there are so many studios involved in the production committee even though Studio Bind is lead.  It will be hard-nosed business negotiations and whether Bind wants to share time with MT, of which it gets all revenue.  So it will be a business decision in the end.

Ed.  By the way, overseas popularity only helps if it is extremely popular outside Japan.  Otherwise, the move has been to look at domestic numbers since overseas revenue is only about 50% of the pie, is baked in when the show is syndicated, and doesn't outlast the initial contract period.  On the other hand, merch sales can go on for years in Akiba after an anime has run.

just an analogy or something, not sure if I'm Allowed to say this nor how these things work, but, yeah the studio's next anime is mushoku tensei, never watched that. And it could have a long run I think. And after that, they could have another anime that we don't know yet. So for me, chances are low for for season 2. I feel sad too for this but I still really hoping for it like a degenerate.

Plus if I'm allowed. Onimai Anime's manga coverage is about ch 36/37. But the latest is still ch 73. So I think it would take yeeaars for them to get season 2. Is that how it works? But, Yeah I'm uncertain, but still hope for a surprise.

good to know, It feels weird to me how it is irrelevant in the west when it's so fun. also the manga has good content for adaptation so if they do make a season 2 it'd be nice, just hope they tune it down on the fan service

Cute girls doing cute things are just generally not very popular, and this show's genderbender hook even less so.

Well, the context of the post I was responding to was about the west, and if Japanese popularity is what determines what gets adapted/sequels, you'd think we'd get more of these types of shows. We get a couple CGDCT shows a season in a sea of isekai, harems, and romcoms. This season has 3 genderbender shows, but most seasons have 0.

Are you saying that what is popular in the West determines what gets adapted, because that is simply not the case.  At most, overseas streaming accounts for 50% of an anime's revenue.  Pachinko parlors and merch sales almost match it, not to mention Japanese streaming and BD sales.  Of the overseas streaming, a large portion is to other Asian countries.  That's why the Vampire Dies in No Time and Uma Musume got almost immediate second seasons and it took years for Vinland Saga to get one, and it will be the last as it is not doing very well in Japan.  You do have the exceptions like Nagatoro and Vinland Saga that hold a special appeal to foreign audiences, more particularly Nagatoro's popularity in Latin America for obvious reasons, but by and large popularity in Japan is what matters.

No, that's not what I was saying. Japanese popularity is very important, though I think it is more accurate to say that revenue is the driving factor in these decisions. My argument was more against the supposed popularity of genderbender stories in Japan. Relatively speaking, I think Japanese boys are much more interested in characters being reincarnated in another world with an OP skill and a harem. Those are the series getting adapted every season, and even the bad ones get sequels.
