| Characters in general smoking doesn't bother me, but if it beats you over the head with its DEEP SYMBOLISM I find it at times overplayed and a bit trite If the rest of the story lacks any sort of maturity or nuance, it can come off as like a little girl wearing her mother's too-big high heels to try and feel more like an adult. Clumsy and goofy, you know the imagery and feeling that she's trying to get across, but in context with the rest of the picture, she looks like she's wearing clown shoes. "I'm a real writer! My characters are mature! This story is deep! Conflict! Uh.. did I mention mature? Brooding! Deep themes! Maturity!"  Observe the slow, exaggerated movements. The squinted eyes, pained expression. The passionate expressive head tilts. This isn't just a shitty show about yelling swear words and shooting. This is art. Just look at how deep it is. Smoking. |
