Sometimes Oyasumi Punpun feels like a novel with how much dialogue they put on one page. There are some chapters where every page will have multiple paragraphs of just ranting and its like "i aint reading all that"..

Anytime a character other than Punpun rants, I just skip it. Too many side characters get far too much dialogue

I usually read the whole thing because why not. Of course I speed through it and don't really take in a lot of the info but I just try to skim through it to see if anything important is in it.

the others side characters have some interesting story and struggle. most likely just speed up rather than just skip it. the only time had just skip a whole dialog or story around the "pegasus / vibe cult" thingy

I didn't skip a single line. If the author didn't think it was important I assume they wouldn't include it. What's the point of reading a series if you're not going to actually read it? Whether it's a main character or not, at the end of the day it's the author's words more than any of the characters. With something like Punpun it's just interesting to see what Inio Asano was thinking and wanting to say.

this might be a shock, but sometimes the author makes mistakes.

If that's what your heart tells you to do, who am I to stop you? I was just answering your question. Letting you know I read it because I thought it was interesting.

This is the most dumb thing that I have ever heard. What's the point of reading a dialogue heavy manga if you are just gonna skip the dialogue? I only read a dialogue heavy story if I am in mood of reading some great dialogues.

reading bad, pointless dialogue that serves no purpose to a manga other than to fill chapters just because its included in the story is a wild and dumb decision but more power to you

If you think the dialogue is bad and pointless than just drop the manga. I wouldn't continue reading a dialogue heavy manga if I think the dialogue is bad. I like Pupun's dialogue so it's not a bad read for me at all.

brb lemme drop a manga i already finished guys

Take it as a advice for anything you read in the future then. If you don't enjoy dialogue in a dialogue heavy manga than its okay to drop it. No need to finish mangas you don't enjoy.

Yes, of course I read all of the dialogue. Hadn't heard of people skipping around manga before, especially ones that haven't been adapted to anime. You're missing out on context if you skip past whatever you don't like. The text is in there for a reason.

I'd personally find it weird to skim read a series I legitimately enjoy. I'd like to ask you why is that surprising?

No they don't.

If they did, they would notice how pointless and dumb all the dialogues are.

The obviously don't,if they did,the would realize how  pretentious and most of the exchanges in this manga are,or they are simply clueless about what human interraction looks like

The story (and dialogue) certainly isn't for everyone, but I personally found it to be everything I've ever wanted in a manga/piece of fiction.

There wasn't a single page I didn't like or piece of dialogue which I felt to be boring and uninteresting. The dialogue had a nice realism to it that, while also containing elements of absurdity which stopped it from feeling mundane.

I can't comment of how pretentious it is because I've always been a sucker for stuff that is extremely pretentious, especially when the pretentious aspects are coated with a layer of realism and absurdity.

At the end of the day, I absolutely love everything about this manga and nothing will ever change that.

Why not? Even sometimes the dialogue is not significant to the plot, Inio Asano's worldview on human society and his ideal to tell random stories through a few pages are another great side of Punpun. You could skip it if you find it boring. Still, if you think it's a "pointless dialogue that serves no purpose to a manga other than to fill chapters just because its included in the story is a wild and dumb decision". In that case, you just missing the whole point, or maybe heavy dialogues are not for you?

Lmao, why would you not read all the dialogues if you really want to understand what's happening in the story? And the dialogues in goodnight punpun aren't even that heavy + with those great artwork, reading it is really enjoyable. Wait till you read Hunter x Hunter to know what "dialogue-heavy" really looks like.

I haven't read Punpun yet but I think it's strange to skip on dialogue in manga unless it's just a repetition of words or it's just irrelevant.

Too much dialogue? For my taste, it is pretty small compared to what I have already consumed. In my opinion, a lot of light novel series are a much bigger offender when you take superflous text, overused, lame tropes and the overall bad writing into account. But hey, I like reading, and they are usually easier to stomach than 'actual' books, so it's okay I guess. -g-

Still strange to skip a lot of parts. Like playing Shoot'em Ups or every installment of Demon's/Dark souls when you hate dodging.

Buy stuff, or buy at least your favorites if you can afford it - Don't be lame.

MAL is far from being my primary site for literature, which is why I’ve stopped doing single-chapter updates. Baka-Updates and two French sites are far superior—more detailed, complete, and less restrictive. They're perfect for manga, light novel, and book collectors like me, making the process much less stressful and tiring. -g-

I don't have any problem with novels so I'll read the huge wall of text that Pegasus constantly spouts. One trick that got me through the bulk of this manga was to pretend that I'm voicing these characters. So Pegasus' panels always lasted twice as long for me because I always emoted when I did it.

Bro what? ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ It's a drama not a battle manga. Of course it's gonna have a lot of dialogue

That only time I felt like skipping dialogue was with the Pegasus chapters and the Sachi arc

no way. sometime I would even read lines twice to make sure I get them. I get that some people want to read this as a regular manga but goodnight punpun is not something I can just skim through.
