Do you think anime's "value" decreases over time?

It's like anime is at its best, and most relevant during airing, and then much less people will talk about it, or even watch it.

Even cult status titles may be mentioned often, but overall, people just aren't focused on them, as on the latest seasonals.

Anime is a lot like games since only the most hardcore of the medium go back and experience the older stuff.

No, I could care less if people don't talk about an anime. If an anime is good, it is good

that's just how things work, the only exception I can think of is one piece which's value is only increasing with time

A good anime (influential, outstanding, iconic, original) gets better over time, the vast majority of anime (trash) just disappear into the void after some time.

The quality of a series is not affected by the passage of time, however, I believe that all anime series have a "shelf-life" in the mind of the public. Most shows are "flavor of the week" and are quickly forgotten while other shows seem to stick around in the community a long time (for better or worse). I suspect that the "shelf-life" of shows in the public mind has decreased over the years because of the sheer number of decent shows being pumped out of the industry.

I personally miss the time when the industry was smaller because when a noteworthy series did come out it seemed to stick around in the community for years rather than just weeks. Some series that come to mind like this are Evangelion, Ouran High School Host Club, Clannad, Haruhi, School Days, Lucky Star, Toradora, Oreimo, etc. Keep in mind I am excluding long-running series (Naruto, One Piece, etc).

It's hard to tell right now what will stick around for years to come in the community (that isn't mega-popular and long-running like My Hero Academia or something).

Value? No. Popularity? Yes.

- new anime watchers continuously replace those who quit
- most new anime watchers will only watch the most recent popular stuff

I doubt so. Rather, the popularity of animes have increased overtime

i think the question should be rephrased to use the term "popularity" instead of "value"

Absolutely agree with you. Good anime only gets better over time.
