Who did you think was Tobi? (Naruto SPOILERS, if that is even possible at this point.)

Arguably, before his big reveal, there were 3 GREATEST SECRETS IN ANIME:

Bleach: What is Aizen's Bankai?

One Piece: What is the secret of poneglyphs, and Void Century?

Naruto: Who is Tobi?

After years of it being a secret, it was revealed that Tobi is actually Obito Uchiha, Kakashi's old teamate, and a lot of fans already thought that was the case.

BUT, the funny thing was that it was so obvious, that most of us were almost convinced that it must be someone else.

Some people believed that it really was Madara who survived till the era of Shippuden, while some thought it was Sasuke's future version.

It was kinda annoying not knowing his identity, but also fun in a way too, and myself, I could even say that once his identity was revealed, Tobi, or rather Obito, lost a lot of his unknown mastermind aura, and just became another of villains.

Enjoy in thread.

Well I don't found it mysterious as the other two(aizen mystery too was kinda ok ,but I was always hyped for him, "It was all a part of my plan, feels)
Like I was never hyped for him
It was like easy to tell that he ain't the final antagonist

The actual twist was kaguya
And believe me that twist was the last nail in coffin for shippudden.

I thought it was Madara for the longest time as that was what the author made us believe. I do remember seeing a YouTube video suggesting that Obito was Madara before we actually saw his face. But I didn't think much of it at the time.

i thought it was madara at first but I also wondered how he would have put away all that hair, then I thought it was shisui but that wouldn't make sense, so in a way, it was kinda obvious that it was obito. Mind you it was 3-4 years ago.

There were various theories like he could be the Sasuke from the future or the Kakashi from the future as they only showed his one eye but the funniest one was that he is a ramen chef in Konoha village. I just thought him of as some guy who is a member of Akatsuki and has Sharingan.

all of my theories in regards to anime are down bad so I didn't even try to think about his identity. I thought he could have been madara's son or something cause tobi died 100% but it's naruto shippuuden, anything can happen

I thought it was Madara like everyone else till the reveal. Was very surprised to find out that he was Obito.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

I knew his real name was "Obito" before I even watched Naruto because of it being such a talked-about twist but I didn't know the significance of that name until I watched it and got to the Kakashi backstory arc.
Some of you never watched Bakugan Battle Brawlers on TeleToon in 2008 and it shows.

I thought it was Obito because their names seemed similar to me.

I always thought it was Obito. Many fans at the time mocked the anagram idea as too simplistic, but it turned out to be right.
Well, there was also the whole missing left half of his face thing.

Does it really matter when the series later on was known for reviving whoever the f the want from time to time. The only real surprise was how they never revived Jiraya to say his last good bye to Naruto, if anything.

I too thought for a moment that the anagram might be intentionally misleading, but if I recall correctly, we learned about Obito around the same time that Tobi became relevant to the plot, and there's also the fact that kid Obito and Tobi (before his voice changes) act very similar. Personally, Obito was the my whole only guess, as the whole madaara shit seemed fishy as hell, because everything we knew about Madaara gave him a very serious air, which made it really hard to imagine him acting like a spazz the way Tobi does, even if it were for the sake of hiding his identity.
Poyo.
