Hi, I recently bought the first volume of the Spy X Family manga because I am really enjoying the anime so far. I was wondering if I should read ahead of what’s animated in the manga or should I read along as the anime releases? Just wanted to hear some others suggestions on this. I am definitely an anime person in comparison to manga (this is actually my first manga). Thank you in advance!

It’s really up to you. I’m more of an anime person as well, but will pick up manga when I’m curious to look ahead and see what’s to come in an anime. So far the anime has been pretty much identical to the manga but no one knows how accurate it will be in the future.

It’s a good manga and considering you already bought it you should read ahead but it’s all up to you.

It is a very different experience. Manga has more "oomph" to the action for whatever reason.

The anime also has some differences like in the recent episode, Anya was talking in her mind about the mission instead of outloud.

Yes, you can enjoy the anime if you know what going to happens. For me, it even more wholesome <3

Didnt you already buy it?

There is nothing really significant for the remainder of the volume to get animated. Except 1 or 2 I guess. But this anime was definitely not created to promote the manga as its main objective. So you have to really decide if you want to watch some cool action scenes with that climax feeling, without reading manga, or feel spoilt about it, by reading the manga.

Personally, I caught up to the latest chapter and I'm a kind of guy who forgets things over some period of time. So, I dont mind reading manga beforehand, since I will still forget what happened, and then feel the goosebumps during climax while watching it as an anime.

Honestly I was too hyped up from the first 2 episodes of the anime and started reading the manga. (no spoilers) The only thing that came to my head while reading the manga was, “man I can not wait for this part to be animated”, so in my opinion, yes I would recommend reading the manga.

I’m really mixed on this. I enjoy reading manga, but I enjoy watching anime more as it has so much more to offer (IMO).

But what I do is, I tend to read a manga after I’m sure I’ve already seen the entire anime for that manga. I rarely ever read ahead of an anime’s manga to avoid spoilers because I would rather follow an anime, since I feel like I would’ve already seen everything there is to offer, if I happen to read the entire manga before the anime is finished.

But if there is not yet an anime to a manga, then of course I would read the manga. There’s just some manga you HAVE to read, especially ones like Chainsaw Man which I recently finished, and the anime is supposed to drop sometime this year.

But that’s where I’m split. Since I’ve already read CSM fully, I don’t know whether or not I will actually be as excited for the anime when it drops, because I already know everything that’s going to happen. I still look forward to seeing my favorite panels, moments and arcs animated, but I feel like I’ve “cheated” ahead somehow, and I am waaaay in front of the ones who only watch anime, so I feel like I’ve kinda become this “ohhh anime might be good, but manga is always better!”, type of dude. Which I hate

Reading ahead is completely up to you and your patience. There are some filler chapters that I’m sure the anime will skip, so if you want I am willing to give you a list of a few non-spoiler chapters to read. (There aren’t many)

Yes I already bought it but I kinda want to see the story animated first so I was going to read each chapter after it’s animated each week. But I’m already hooked on this show so I kinda want to read ahead. I was just wondering what others are doing for the most part

I think I am the same way. I like to see stuff animated first before reading I feel. I think experiencing the story that way hits a bit harder for me when first watching it as opposed to first reading it. I’m in the same dilemma for Re:Zero, as I’m currently reading the light novel but idk if I am going to want to read past what’s animated when I get to that point. Thx for your answer as well :)

Yea if you don’t mind, I’d like to know which chapters are fillers thanks!

Im using VIZ Manga so these chapters may not be the same as on MAL.
- Chapter 8.5
- Chapter 15.1 a must read
- Chapter 17.1
- Chapter 18.1
- Chapter 27.1 Wait for episode 6 if you don’t want spoilers and you’re not reading ahead.
- Chapter 40.1
- Chapter 58.3 Slight spoilers but it seems fine

There are other short stories but they involve other characters that haven’t been introduced in the anime so I left those out. Hope this helps.

I usually prefer manga over anime, but for this one. Don't read ahead, the adaptation is do good that it blows the manga out of the park.

I'm caught up to the manga and it's pretty good. Even tho i know what's going to happen , the anime is still very entartaining. I would prefer the anime over the manga but i recommend both of them. Read the manga then continue watching the anime weekly

honestly, I think u shouldn't read manga cuz anime has its own vibe and other stuff but.. it's just my opinion don't take it seriously btw what do u think about ep4?? I think it was a big ep cuz it shows that the spy is making emotions with her daughter it's really important in upcoming ep to make the family together, so just asking how do u feel about ep4:)..

If you hadn't bought the manga, then I would have recommended you to watch it but since you have, go ahead and read it.

It's better to wait for the Anime to finish first. Just in case you may have that "comparison" mode going on.

I’m actually watching the dub and it’s a week behind so ep 4 will premiere this Saturday for the dub. I really enjoy the dynamic between all three characters tho. You can tell that Loid is starting to get attached to Anya :)

Nisekoi did us anime watchers dirty. I feel your pain of waiting years only for nothing. Nisekoi is actually the first manga I read cause I couldn't wait any longer. Team Chitoge πŸ‘Š

Manga has much better pacing and humor, I definitely recommend it. Just skip over the cruise ship storyline because it's stinky
