A decent start, pretty much only interested in the maincharacter. The rest are incredibly plain and not even close to decent. Well, I do like the game concepts. The ED is pretty dope too.

Not a fan of this so far. Pretty poor directing and pacing. I like the premise of trying to get friends to doubt each other but it's hard to feel any tension without any prior time spent with the characters, especially showing their dynamics as friends. Maybe it would have been better if the first episode showed some instances of them interacting before leading into the introduction of the game at the end of the episode. It could get better, but for now I'm unimpressed

I really hope for a second season announcement. Otherwise it doesn't even need to be seen. So rush adaptation. It is horrible.

Its 1:1 Manga adaptation i checked, its just how it is in Manga, first they drop you into chaos and then you will get slowly explained, you guys better give it 5-6 eps and see it for yourself, it will change drastic from cliche start.

Yes, but I mean they can't fit all published chapters into 12 episodes, it is simply impossible.

It won't just keep the level, but it will get better and better. I dare to swear this is a masterpiece because I've read manga which during volume 1. The story will go fast causing some people to curse this But don't be in a hurry to decide that this is not good. Because after this, the character will be developed all the time. The mc will show off his crazy psychology tricks in every game, it's a technique that, if not really crazy, won't work.

Reminds me of battle game in 5 seconds (but I actually liked that).

Lmao, imagine watching one episode of a show and then stating that battle game in 5 seconds is better (of all things). I've read both, and Tomodachi game just blows it out of the water in every department. The only interesting thing about BGI5S is the premise and powers, after that its straight to tropey characters, ecchi, and cliches. Insane take. Neither of the studios who worked on these projects are great but, I'm SOO grateful that this show isn't getting the production team behind that one.

Again a bunch of friends getting themselves dragged up in a life-and-death game and that too for no valid reason whatsoever, like this huge debt out of nowhere... could've gone for atleast something more convincing. Though tbh these games and all can bring some thrill if nothing else.

Also that game master or whatever, making me laugh whenever he's on screen.

Nop there are no death games in this, calm your horse buddy, you will slowly know more about the debt, this show's a mystery in it's core.

This was pretty bad lol, definitely a let down with zero tension and they showed the masterminds in the first ep, direction was way off. 4000000 yen is like 3000gbp, i hope they dont try to make that tiny debt a reason for killing people because that would be so dumb lol, two months work in minimum wage. very drama

For a teenager that's a big sum, they showed us the Admin but not the impostor. And this is a spoiler but there's no killing here.

*spoiler*
They will play for things worse than death, and the debt will increase to more than 300 million(I don't want to give the actual amount but you get what I say)

So this first chapter was already in crunchyroll, i actually really like this first chapter, at first i actually believe this would be similar to squid game but it was actually more interesting for me, it was a great sorprise, the animation is actually not that bad, especially manabu´s one, he really is terrorific, kinda reminds me to monokuma, the OP was decent, maybe will grow on me, but in general great first chapter, waiting for the next one

I recommend the manga its fantastic, as a manga reader the first ep was fine but the pacing felt odd and the way some scenes were adapted seemed strange but apart from that i liked the first ep

Honestly, it's really fast paced.. like there's nothing to tell and immediately rush to the game. Even on the background of each person, it was only written and very fast, I personally need to pause to read one by one. While explaining the rules too.. the staff didn't let me and my slow brain to process :"D

At first I thought Shibe was the one who deliberately answered "no" because he knew that if the answer to such an easy question is wrong it will provoke Shiho and she will speak (judging by Shiho's personality) then her debt will increase so that she will lose and be the one to bear all the debt in the end.. but looking at the question paper, it turned out that they are all traitors to each other. The questioners deliberately gave easy questions so that the others will answer "yes" and only the questioners themselves answer "no" so the questioner's answer will be chosen and the questioner's debt will be decreased.

By the way, how did Yuichi realize that the fifth question would be different from the previous questions?

Seems interesting, but I feel like the back story is some bullshit. First of all, anyone would realize or at least think that such a "loan" would be legally unenforceable.

You have a bunch of kids watching the monitors after kidnapping multiple groups of people. I'm assuming it's going to develop some paramilitary shit, like they're looking for the ideal candidate for some bs like Higurashi or something. After all they must have access to mind reading devices and such, so I'm assuming there will be a twist explaining that they're hooked up to chips in their brains in an experiment or something to justify that.

And also, I don't care how close any of my friends are with me, I wouldn't play a game with tens of thousands of dollars on the line, especially if they wouldn't even be forthcoming about why they owe that amount. What kind of friend is that? It's likely that multiple people owe that amount, or it's possible that none of them owe that amount, and they're just naively being strung into a game.

I guess all the friends must be very confident that all of them are rational, calculating agents, since they seem to understand each other's motives perfectly even without communicating. It takes some teamwork to push all the debt to that last girl.

But I feel like this just comes with the territory in many Japanese media. Even in classics like Battle Royale, we have to ignore the absurdity of the set up to enjoy the main plot.

As a manga reader, the anime adaptation seems fast-paced in the description part to introduce Yuuichi's friends and also to the part where Manabu-chan attempted to stir doubt in Yuuichi in the white-room scene. Maybe they should've atleast give time for the viewers to read that part. The rules was supposed to be explained thoroughly by Manabu-chan like in the manga, but instead they just put it in the blackboard and go on with the game in the anime. It gives me the impression that those things were intentional so that the viewers might missed it in order to look again attentively when a big surpriesed sprang up, kinda like Sherlock Holmes. I think that's where they're aiming. There were also parts in the manga that didn't put in the anime such as Mikasa Tenji's short dialogue with Manabu-chan where he referenced "Kaiji" there and Yuuichi's dialogue during the Kokkuri-san where he realized the reason why "talking is not allowed" and how badly he wanted to talk to his friends during the game to know if someone among them had a grudge that might be the reason why they were being betrayed. At that part, he also realized how important communication is in friendship and it also made him realized how much he don't know more about his friends. I really hope they added those parts in the anime because it really give more depth about the characters and intensity in the scenarios.

As for the voice acting, it really is great! Those were almost exactly the same voices that I heard when I was still reading the manga! It's even much better! Manabu's VA really did a great job to the character! :D The switch of the tone of Manabu's voice when he said the part of "Don't doubt your friends" really switch the mood to a serious one! :D The OP is a great masterpiece, both the visuals and song!!!

Reading the others' opinions here about the characters made me remember my first impressions about the manga before! Are the characters really dumb or are they too good to be dumb? LMAO! I really don't care that much if only few flashbacks were shown about the characters and we didn't know them that much coz there's not much backstory in Episode 1 (hence, seeing their friendship fall apart in the first game was not that impactful). Originally and essentially, Tomodachi Game falls HEAVILY under the category of MYSTERY. So, it will reveal in the future episodes along the way. I don't know why MYSTERY wasn't included in the themes/genres of the ANIME, while in fact it is one of the CHARMING point and STRONG part of the manga. Basically, anime's genre should be MYSTERY, PSYCHOLOGICAL, HIGH STAKES GAME, STRATEGY GAME, DRAMA, SHOUNEN.

TL;DR:Episode 1 is impressive! :D

Yes, but it is justified for the one who got it, and the reason why they accepted it as a whole is it's good for their new objective

In the past, when I read manga i feel the same as you The people behind the game were so boring that they were just saying to us what the protagonist was doing. In addition, it did not analyze anything further.

The first episode isn't bad but the animation or quality or something feels a bit off. I hope the pacing isn't too fast since this manga is fucking epic so if adapted right this anime will certainly be a banger. Since they showed Yuuichi in a military outfit in the beginning, I'm guessing they'll get to the zombie arc. But that means they're planning on adapting 60+ chapters in only 12 episodes? This might be fine for more action-filled shows but Tomodachi Game has a lot of dialogues so idk if this is a good idea. I really hope they don't mess this up since this manga is one of my favorites.

The backstory isn't bs because they haven't shown you the 'real' backstory yet.
It's not just kids kidnapping other kids and watching through a monitor. It's something much bigger than that, which you'll see as the story progresses.
There's no mindreading or chips bs involved. They aren't looking for a candidate either.
They don't understand each others' motives perfectly. While watching this show, you need to keep this in mind: "What you're seeing isn't everything. And don't trust the protagonist." Don't trust anything Yuuichi does, says, or even his inner thoughts. This is a mystery show so you need to suspect everything, even the mc. Even if the anime straightout tells you something, don't believe it. Observe the situation, find the clues, and come to your own conclusion. Don't get led by the nose.

That felt rushed, barely know them & their relations.
Fun mind games with the minority kokkuri and rules use, as usual for some reality tv.
Yuuichi quite thoughtful, but there's no way to know if 5 envelopes are same, or if last one is unique. So at least 1 friend is trolling answers, but the 3 friends before him didn't necessarily each halve their own debt.
Less flashy than Danganronpa, & might suit binge watch more.
