I'm just glad this is finally over. Watching this anime has been torturous.

If something has "Madoka Magica" in the name, I need to watch it. This is stronger than me. My attachment to the franchise doesn't let me just ignore Magia Record, but I have to be honest and admit that this anime sucks.

is the main story over in the JP mobile game? Was this last bit of the story covered in NA before the server shutting down?

1st question: Nope. The main story is still ongoing in the game's JP server. The whole Magius and Eve saga (Chapters 1-10) is known as Arc 1, while the JP server is currently a few chapters into Arc 2.

2nd question: Yep. This final "Season" is supposed to adapt the events of Ch.10/end of Arc 1, which is the point in the main story that the NA server reached just before it died.

Although, with the way this adaptation has been going (rushed pacing, plot deviations, merging of Chapters. 7, 8 & 9 in Season 2), it's expected by most of us fans of the game that they'll wrap this up with an anime-original ending, since the Season 2 finale already confirmed that
(which is already a major deviation from the game's Ch.10) and an anime adaptation of Arc 2 is extremely unlikely to happen anytime in the near future, if ever.

Thanks for the answers. Wow, the Magireco adaptation is even weirder than I expected. Cramping all those chapters in this weird way and rushing them, just to end on an anime original ending just because Act 2 will never be adapted.
Makes me wish that any of the manga spin-offs like Oriko and Kazumi never get adapted too, if they end up to be a mess like this.

Rather, there's simply no real need for this. In the game Walpurgisnacht is just another boss. The battle with it has some significance, showing the cooperation of the girls, but the battle with Eve does the same perfectly. In addition, it could contradict the upcoming movie or devalue her image in it.

come on, even if you think the story sucks, the animation and music are great, at least for the most part.

Seeing the story diverging in such a manner, I guess Walpurgisnacht going to Kamihama might be a main plot point to the uocoming movie, and we might see interesting multiverse stuff.

I've always considered it far from confirmed. I believed, that they would

But from the Final Season previews and the Movie 4 context it seems like Walpurgisnacht is really gone from Magia Record. I don't mind even major plot alterations in anime adaptations, but Chapter 10 and Last Magia were so epic and crucial that I'm not sure how to feel about lack of them.

I wouldn't call it just another boss. It has gigantic significance, especially for Magia Record Homura. It is not exchangable with Eve, which has a completely different meaning behind its existence and reasons for fighting it. The whole Kamihama magical girls society uniting to fight Eve and save Kamihama is just that - a confined Magia Record story. But when you connect it to Madoka Magica and make it about Walpurgisnacht - you make it grandiose and significant to whole multiverse.

But yes, that's exactly why they had to lessen the scale of events. So Movie 4 can handle it. And it's fine I guess, because they can still convey the same values (uniting and showing the big world outside) with Eve. But it is significant because it will make Magia Record much less important.

To Kamihama? What multiverse stuff would you expect? What happens to Madokami of course will have multiverse effects but I don't believe it will connect in any way to Magia Record universe.

True, that is a definite possibility. But yeah, even if she might attempt to do that, i think it's very unlikely that she will actually succeed.
The Holy Quintet splitting off from Team Mikazuki and heading back to Mitakihara due to Walp's re-direction definitely feels more like a direct set-up for the upcoming movie, given its title.

And yeah, while it's a shame that Last Magia won't be adapted in the anime, I think it's totally understandable why they wouldn't bother. The writers probably understand that giving so much of the spotlight to all the other Kamihama side-megucas and all the references to their individual wishes would ultimately ring hollow for most of the audience (the non-players).
After all, the show never had the luxury of being able to devote enough screentime to introduce them properly, much less develop them like the game did with all the events and side-story missions.

That of course is true. It's also important to remember that even if anime skips something, it still is all there ready to be read and experienced in game. Those two medium exist at the same time and don't replace each other - you can indulge in both.

I mean in general, a faithful and accurate anime adaptation is a great thing to have - but especially with VNs that have many routes, or MagiReco case with all MS Stories, Events, Another Story, there will be inevitable differences to the source material you are familiar with. And that is interesting too! The source and the adaptation are very different medium that are enjoyed in a different way - so focusing on how they complement each other will provide a better experience than comparing them to each other.

as someone who puts characters above all else i'll say that magia record has been way more enjoyable than madoka since it puts more of a spotlight on the characters themselves, beyond their wish

As someone who haven't played the game, this anime fails in everything related to the characters. There are too many characters I'm supposed to care about, but I can't actually care about them because they're written as a single moment drama that is easily forgotten. Even the relationship between the protagonist and the main girl from her new group is forgettable.

It would be much better if they had written only an story about Momoko, Rena and Kaede. And even their story is pretty bad because the solution of their issues in the first episodes isn't any healthy.

Uhhh I echo what the other user said earlier in the thread, glad it's over either way and it's been torturous. They never brought back the badass flashy action sequences from S2, which I initially found jarring then very, very impressive.

Yep money ran out and seems they never recovered. The last 4 episodes were a complete disappointment for me personally. Shame, I really liked Iroha and Yachiyo and their dynamics and the slow storytelling of S1 was quite enjoyable for me.

It's a special broadcast that aired on TV. For me it's a Special (could be aired at irregular timeslot on TV or special program) instead of ONA (ONA is something released online initially)
