Holy sh*t, this episode looked like ass, in some parts it was downright comical and i almost laughed, that's how bad it was. I guess you could say Mappa outdid itself this time.

It's crazy how so many people fail to see the extremely awkward presentation of this episode, not even the first part was this bad, how could they let such talentless hacks direct this anime is beyond me, what a disgrace.

Well, some of us did see what you see, but i mean pointing out positivity is better rather than negativity. I mean, why would the goodness overshadowed by its flaw? Unless it's flaw > goodness, which isnt the case here. But it's back to you.

If we are to somehow assume that these events are 'predestined' to happen the way we see it in the show, then this would mean Eren is incapable of ever achieving the freedom he wants because of the fact that everything that happened was predetermined making the entire show a contradiction to it's own theme of freedom.

Like the other fellow said, that's the point. The whole irony behind the show is just that.

Also it really makes more sense as you progress even further into the story.

A very powerful episode. Zeke takes Eren into the past to try and show him why his worldview is wrong, but only ends up strengthening his resolve, and actually witnesses Eren manipulating the past.

"rather than letting someone steal my freedom, I'll steal theirs first."

Mappa, as expected, did a great job with the paths episode. It wasn't as good as the last episode but I think only chapter 131 getting animated can beat that.
Hardcore Eren was a pleasure to watch as always

I'm excited for the next episode too I loved that chapter.

One thing I do not understand is that Eren would have to get the Attack Titan in the first place in order to communicate with Grisha. The way they portray it made it seem like Eren would never have gotten the power of the titans if he didn't convince his Father to kill the royal family in that moment. What came first, the chicken or the egg? I'm sure there is an explanation for this though, can anyone help me out, maybe manga readers? If it's a spoiler for future episodes then just ignore me.

I think that just considering everything to be predestined such that Eren was always going to manipulate his father through the combined powers of the FT and AT pretty much solves that

Even if it is your list, as a fellow weeb I would really appreciate if you give rating according to the season, I mean ending isn't going to be adapted in this season......

Rate it 1 when the ending will be adapted, not giving orders but still you can reconsider your decision

EDIT: I realized something. Since Grisha can see the memories of Eren, he was probably driven by his will to be free/his hatred towards the royals. Eren being there in the frame kind of tripped me into thinking that he was physically there with Grisha when he was about to take the lives of the royals, but not necessarily. However, I believe that Eren's rage was communicated to Grisha through the powers of the Attack Titan and the father was compelled by those emotions to do whatever he ended up doing. I'm literally just as shocked as Zeke right now. We have all been played by the Tatakae bastard lol.

Holy hell, yeah. I remember that in s3p2 Eren could feel the same emotions Grisha felt in the memories, when he was crying (ep “That Day” and/or “Attack Titan”). So now that we know that Grisha could see the memories from the future, he could probably feel them too…like Eren’s rage… omfg

Yup, that's exactly the episode I thought of. I remember Eren said something along the lines of "I could see his memories as if I'm reliving them". And I also thought of that scene where Eren woke up crying because he experienced the emotions and trauma his dad went through. So he we apply the same logic to the future memories, then Grisha too felt Eren's emotions when he saw his memories, and one of them is his rage/hatred.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

Shingeki is back at it again, another 10/10 episode like completely insane! I never thought a "memories review" could become so intense, with Eren becoming basically the GOD now i assume since he took control of the Ymir's world. And the whole scene where Eren's energy slowly started overflowing from him, and then he explodes and u get rekt

And this whole episode, all of those memories, i am speechless... What a throwback!
So Eren's titan is the only one who can see the future, like whaaaaaaaaat, so what did he see there, now that's the question.

And the whole Grisha scenes with Eren and Zeke, damn! What a masterpiece this is!

Can't wait for next week!

I like how they put just the flashbacks in one episode.

Baby Eren has an actual baby's voice, and not a cringey woman pretending to be a child. So, I hope people appreciate that. It adds so much realism and immersion. The people probably had to make a baby cry, and listen to it for hours while recording it!

The OP played at just the right moment! If I am not wrong, that was where the first flashback chapter ended in the manga.

I saw some old shots from season 1, but I really appreciate the way they didn't reuse all the older drawings. The art style has changed too much. Reusing older shots would create a weird disconnect.

I can see a later event foreshadowed very subtly. It was done in the manga too, but the anime did it better. Very slightly better.

Grisha's words were barely understandable when he cried. So, that's good, I think. He didn't do the weird "ku ku ku" when crying like other male anime characters seem to do.

Did anyone notice how far Rod Reiss had run? lol. That man is truly a coward!

The next episode's title (Nisen nen-mae no Kimi kara/From You of 2000 years ago) references the title of episode 1 (Nisen Nen-go no Kimi e/To You of 2000 years later). I wonder how the anime will execute that.

The name Grisha makes me think of Sun Summoner and Corporalki and stuff now. lol

Wow, Wow simply Wow. No words are substantial enough to describe this breathtaking episode with so many fills and emotions. Kudos to Mappa on always going above and beyond surpassing their limits to produce such an impeccable everytimes the new episodes is released. It was such a treat to watch this gem but couldn't last more than 5 minutes.

Travelling in the past, cute baby Eren, Eren despair reaction on watching scarf wrapping, Grisha plea to the Royal Family to end the Titan brutality, rejection, objection and his hestistant to kill the kid, at last Eren manipulating Grisha to Slaughter the entire family sparing Rod, Grisha grieving afterwards, Zeke shocking in stunning revelation of Eren using Father, Father declaring love and apologising for What he did to Zeke and father last plea to Zeke to save Eren. Surmising all of this, this episode was absolutely fire. Can't wait next week to see another episode succeeding another marvellous episode.

Most of my points have been covered by others by now. But I'll say this: I was so shocked to see Eren fuming with rage in the cave. Holy shit. He was so passive and resigned throughout the entire 4th season.
Frieda was going to sit passively by and let him die and his mom die. Awww hell nah. We get 9 year old Eren about to stab some b*tches up in here. He's still on his side. He's still got the rage. There ain't no way he's going out quiet.

Man... what a fucking episode. I mean, since I read the manga I kinda knew what was going to happen. But god-damn, Mappa really exceeded my expectations with this one! The character designs and detailing was absolutely on point and the voice acting... freaking amazing. Especially Grisha's VA, he put so much emotion into his acting and it really caught what Grisha was going through. We saw the Attack Titan's special ability, that the current user can see into the memories of the future inheritors. So by that law, when Grisha was facing the Reiss family, he could see Eren's memories and through Eren's memories he saw that Eren was standing right next to him. Also explains why Grisha appeared to be staring at something or someone when he told child Eren that once he returned he would give Eren the key to the basement. He was in fact staring at Eren from the future. He knew that Eren was standing in front of him and looking straight at him.
The part with Grisha hugging Zeke made me tear up T_T and shows that Grisha did really love Zeke.
And the next episode is called "From you, 2000 years ago". For all my anime only brothers and sisters out there, the next episode will be the best.
