In my opinion the worst part in Vanitas is easily the humor. I just dont like the animation change and it feels very cringe to me personally. Tbh more often than not comedy anime is a miss for me so that could also affect somewhat. But how do you guys feel about the comedy in this anime?

I think it fits the anime. Especially with how Noe and Vanitas personalities are so opposite at times that a but of comic relief fits the scenarios. Idk why but it reminds me sometimes of the comedy in fmab where Ed is always pissed at people calling him a shrimp or when the straw hats just yell at Luffy doing something dumb. And ofc I’m biased in this since I think serious anime aren’t as good without a few touches of comedy. A show being gloomy doesn’t really attract me if we say it that way.

Well I mean I couldnt get into FMAB because of the over the top animation during comedy scenes. I guess I just like my comedy more subtle. Its not like I HATE Vanitas. Im really into the story. The comedy just isnt clicking with me at all. And there is LOTS of it.

It’s all about preferences and that’s understandable. I myself do enjoy the comedy this anime brings. From what I’m seeing you have a problem with the goofy art style when they transition to a comic relief moment. Many anime do things and I don’t mind it at all.

Yeah its perfectly fine if you like that kind of stuff. Like you said for me the goofy "Look at this! This is funny!" art style just doesnt do anything. Its a bit too "try hard" for me.

I find the humour of the series hilarious and it doesn't interrupt the flow, the timing is on point. Especially when Vanitas and Noe are involved, I'm tearing up. I feel you though. Comedy is the most subjective element in fiction, it all depends on personal preferences. For example, I hate most of the comedy beats in Isekai shows but the majority of the fans love it.

Well the humor is subjective and I don't really understand that you could've drop the series in the first place if you have already watched the 1st cour or have read the manga but still not noticing the tone of humor that the anime has already shown since the very beginning of the 1st cour which should be giving anyone enough feels towards the humor segment of this series and if you're talking about the chibi artstyle, then that's part of the author's artstyle if you haven't really notice and it's pretty understandable that the humor was applied in a serious ambience for this 2nd cour which most anime watcher will get annoyyed by it but then again, it's for the purpose of serious tensions to get tone away through adding a comedy segment. Anyways this is just the first episode and the arc is a lot better than the 1st cour imo so even if you hate the humor, just skip those and focus on the very serious part of this 2nd cour simple as that.

The anime would have been better without the humor

It's the worst part of the series for me. But it doesn't ruin the whole thing or anything

I don't have much problems with the comedy. It's not annoying or loud like KNY. However, I hope studio bones would reduce these comic relief scenes a bit and pay more attention to the dialogues or foreshadowings.

Yes, in line with what I commented elsewhere, I find it too tonally and visually jarring to the point where it becomes often disruptive to some scenes in the show.

I don't particularly care what the content of the dialogue and jokes are in the sense of whether I find them funny or not - I don't find most things in scripted comedy (in anime and all other mediums alike) to be funny in the way they're intended, so that's why Comedy is one of my least favorite genres and I don't expect much in that department from it. So I don't care whether I actually find them humorous - I would just rather and be fine if they kept even the exact same dialogue and wording, but simply kept consistency of the art style and avoided use or overuse of chibi and separate breakaway scenes. It would be better if even the dialogue was unchanged, but they merely better integrated it into the natural flow of events in the plotline and kept the normal backgrounds intact. I probably still wouldn't find it any more funny because that's just how I am and I have a hard-to-please, weird and idiosyncratic sense of humor, but then it wouldn't actively take away from the series in the same manner.

Just because you dislike one aspect of a series, it doesn't mean that you dislike it enough to lead you to dropping the series outright. Depending on what it is and how grievous, it's just likely to lower your overall enjoyment and rating/evaluation of the series.

I also disliked this aspect of the series even from early in and throughout the entire first season. I still completed it and decided I wanted to watch the second. It just led to me overall enjoying it a bit less and having a less favorable opinion of it to the effect of being a leading factor behind my decision to rate it with a "6/10" rather than a "7/10".

Disliking one feature or even multiple features of a series doesn't equate to dropping.

The thing is, I don't think the comedy here is meant to be highlighted the way it is. I haven't read the manga for this, but I have read the other Mochizuki Jun work - Pandora Hearts, and she uses the chibi comedy form in very short panel as comedic relief coz the manga has very long chapters showcasing a complex storyline with a lot of dialogues. But here, the comedy is highlighted a lot as they make a whole segment by removing the background and everything. For me this is not a problem, as I like it, but I can see how this can be jarring for other people.

The humour is so bad and out of place, that it makes the entire show be awful. Easiest 1 I've given so far this year.
