Began at 29 years old because too shy to do it before, but when i began, i didn't want to stop... and it's still happening right now. I won't list every one of them but i wanted to write about two non anime related experiences
first one was in early 2015, impersonating the Joker from The Dark Knight at a McDonald's carnival party (even if i was just a regular crew and not a steward/hostess) because it's my number one favorite movie.
I referenced the Batman movies all the time (except the obvious most violent moments) and now i'm asking if those kids now grown up will ever see the actual film/character and think about that day, noticing that they are way darker that the ones i portrayed
Two years later, once again at a McDonald's carnival party, i became Raphael from the Ninja Turtles (second favorite member, didn't find a Donatello one), with the actual in-universe famous poor disguise of a trenchcoat and fedora hat to disguise the "turtle" form out of the sewers. I also brought my then recently bought TMNT minigolf from the early 90's, a Shredder costume that a coworker would have wore after, and a TMNT related puzzle magazine still from the early 90's and this also already owned as a kid. Not only, but i filled this one with pictures of the history of the franchise and narrate it as a sort of fairytale in case some kids were interested. And to top it all, i made an entire playlist of TMNT related songs, from the '87 animated series (because i believe the italian theme is even better than the original) to the original trilogy movies and even the hilarious Coming Out Of The Shells Tour.
It was... a bittersweet experience. This time most of the kids were out of control and most of the parents did pretty much nothing to stop them, i barely convinced some to play the minigolf and they almost broke and lost pieces of it, i was often insulted and hit but somehow behind the Raphael plastic mask i never broke character peacefully asking everyone to behave a little better. The best moments were when i was able to tell the TMNT's history to the children of a family of faithful customers and when Shredder entered into the party, telling he hated music and making start the stereo with the related song from the rock band tour (yes, it exists). "Shredder? What are you doing? You claim to hate music, but you tell us about it with a song?"
