What amount of episodes are the bare minimum for you to get "attached" to the characters?

Characters are an important part of any piece of fiction. Naturally, they are also a huge factor when scoring some anime, at least for me.

I tend to give high scores to the anime with characters I feel "attached" to. Building this attachment takes time. About 20+ episodes I would say.

What about you?

Depends on how compelling the characters are, it happened a few times that I got attached from the very first episode. But generally, if it's a good show I'd say it takes me around 3-4 episodes, when I come to really understand the characters' personality. Of course it's not the strong kind of attachment, for that it takes a bit more time unless the show did a particularly great job, but yeah generally I come to care around 3-4 episodes in.
(Though as I said it strongly depends on the characters, there are characters who showed up in only one episode that I care so much more about than characters who received plenty of screentime.)

Depends. I can get attached to a character in 1 episode if their story is amazing.

But for emotionless characters, it might take many years, and when I look back I will feel nostalgic for the characters, but not attached.

Watch good episodic shows like Mushishi, and probably you can change your opinion.

Atleast a single episode.
There are a few where it takes only one episode to get invested in a character while a few don't even do that in their whole runtime.

For me it depends more on the characters themselves than the number of episodes. Like I got attached to the characters of steins gate in just 24 episodes but couldn't get attached to the characters of fmab even tho i like the show very much.

It is not so much on the number of episodes, but more like how the characters are being created like their personality, character, background, circumstances surrounding them and how these elements relate to me. Let's say if there is a character that has quite similar personality as me or someone I know, I would tend to pay more attention to it.

Besides the above, there is also the combination of characters' development, plot lines, sound and music and animation production. When these are executed that create a flow that connects the story and the characters, they may produce an effect of attachment as well.

Next would be related to us. Some people may develop more attachment to other people due to our needs and desire and may find themselves more secured when they form a certain bond with another person. Though anime are fictional, they are also fantasy that we tend to have regardless how old we are. So, we may grow attachment to a fictional character though it is not real, but we get a certain degree of safety and the sense of love and belonging to satisfy our needs.

No specific amount required. I got attached to Gugu from To Your Eternity after 2 episodes, and his arc was like 6 episodes long. It boils down to how well and fast the author can flesh out the character and make them appealing to you. It can take 2 episodes or two seasons. It really depends on the character, the viewer and what makes them attached.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

My attachment to characters is influenced by how they're written, such as their personality, values, background, character development, etc.

Bare minimum? 1 episode is enough, even a scene.

In most cases, the MAL Average Scores don't mean anything, here is a question: were the works made before 2000 all shit?
Why are they so damn scarce in the Top 50? Think about how MAL is quite literally a filtered amount of the Anime fanbase.

Here's a timeline of the Top 15 in which you can check that, almost always, the scores are affected by the freshness, popularity and other factors that have nothing to do with quality.

Due to seasonal effect, it will take three months to forget the characters of the previous season.

Depends upon the appeal of the character in general. I loved characters like eren kruger who despite getting such less screentime, became one of my favourites in no time. But some other characters like Itachi, meruem etc grew on me only after the end of their character arcs and such.

It's not really in the number of episodes. Anybody who's watched an amazing movie would know this.

a single deed is enough, doesn't need to be a full episode even. it just has to be impactful.

It's not really the amount of episodes for me but about how compelling the characters are. Sometimes it can only take 1 or 2 episodes, other times longer. Then there are times when I don't even care about the characters at all. I have watched 12 episode series or longer and have not cared about a single character because they were just not interesting to me.

Other times it can take a while. I did not have an interest in some characters from series for multiple seasons and they either got interesting storylines, better development etc. and I became attached to them afterwards.

20 episodes? That's a but much, no? It depends on execution to me. It can be something really short like a movie or q compilation like the animator project.

Depends. For good shows, it's generally 4-5 episodes. For bad ones, either i don't get attached or it takes until the end of the series. But sometimes you got shows (i.e. Kotoura-san and some others I can't think of right now) that make a character incredibly compelling by the first episode so that's kinda impressive.

"bare minimum" I would say 1 episode, see Violet Evergarden for example. Single stories every episode, each one full of emotions. But to get really attached depends a lot on character development for me, sometimes just after at least a core (10-12 eps) or even more in some cases

Depends on the character, the plot, the writing, and the pace. For me, it's typically when there's a pivotal moment in the story or in the character development. I can learn their personality and like them as a character, but to actually get attached, there would have to be a trigger. This could happen in the 1st episode or the last, but there will always be something for me. Whether it be their actions, words, or just the situation they're in, for me it's rarely solely based on personality. There's lots of anime characters who have similar personalities, but I don't always get attached to them. It's typically reliant on the writing and developments. I could watch a kind character and like them, but when that character says or does something that touches me, that is when I get attached.

Probably the same as you, like 20+ or maybe even less, really depends on how they make the characters. Like something that people is already attached or liked even by its first appearance.

Just one scene is enough
There was a character in manga stigma (10 chapters)
And he was good character, but he became my favourite just from the last 2 pages which is like a single scene
