I'm surprised how much people watch anime. And here I was there were only a few of us...
Many people watch anime, with Saturday morning cartoons they play things like Yugioh, Pokemon and whatever, we might as well but the general population of children in the mix. As for us anime lovers we might never know the real number...

Let's see, first add the population of Japan under 12, then add the population of Japan under 15 minus 1/3 (always some that will be strange), then 1/3 of the male population of Japan under 20 (they have a birth rate decrease for a reason eh).

Then add 1/10 of the youth population of North America (seems about the right ratio).
Then maybe a million globally to account for why there is so much anime porn (hey someone is wanking to it eh).

And anime is not just Japan and North America, otherwise why is there German Sailormoon eh.
So that's likely worth at least as much as North America's numbers.

Let me know when you add that all up.
While not technically anime, currently I am a big fan of Hatsune Miku.
At least I can go see her in concert.

world creatures include animals, plants, micro orgasms all living beings. So how about less than 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%

A lot of people watch anime. I just turned 21 and anime is pretty much the only genre that I actually enjoy and that I have enjoyed since I was 4 years old. As a girl that was born in and grew up in America, I can say with certainty that over 10 mill. People still watch anime today. I am sure that it is more though. Anime is a whole genre of its own in America. Almost everyone I meet has watched or is still watching anime (with the exception of the generation above 40 years of age). I am pretty sure anime burst open in America when a tv channel known as cartoon network started airing different anime. Cartoon network is a top (if not the best) cartoon channel in America, which also features a night in adult swim completely dedicated to anime, playing different shows (about 6 different shows)all night long. Anime really evolved here once disney started to air hayao miyazaki films like spirited away. Teachers were even playing this movie in elementary school classes(where I first saw the film).
I was hooked on ghibli films immediately!!! Anime is a whole other world in television today. There isn't anything else like it. American films rarely will ever come close to the beauty in anime and are actually growing father away from it with the introduction of 3d cartoons. In my opinion, 3d films are horrible compared with anime and have never given me the loving chilling inspiration that anime constantly gives me(and regular live filmed movies have to be absolutely the best to give me this chill). That being said, anime is definitely popular and growing in popularity still!

All 3 of my siblings and all of my friends watch anime. One last thing, of all of the people that I have known, only a small handful buy anime dvds. Mostly, people who buy dvds will only buy anime movies. Everyone watches anime shows either on television channels, on Netflix, or online, so there is no need to buy them. Although anime movies are not shown on these as often, so you have to buy them. (A lot of people also buy movies online so they do not have to deal with physical items [the same goes with books, which is why our dvd and book stores have mostly closed down in america]). The evolution of technology and anime!! Even the movie fanatics that I know are buying online more now and getting rid of all of the DVD clutter! !

How do I know all of this:
I have experienced this as an artist. I travel around the u.s., and I have met and stayed with many families, groups, and friends.
