Can a high schooler really get a job at a maid cafe?

You probably know the cliche. High school girl needs some extra cash, so she works at a maid/cosplay cafe, and everything's fine. But I've realized something recently. Are you allowed to do that in real life? Maids are potential fetish material, and honestly, that sounds like too much for a minor to handle. So, is it legal over there? I tried searching it up, but I can't find anything that confirms or unconfirms it.
An answer would be appreciated.

Yes, but a HS student working in a maid cafe is completely harmless compared to what has happened in the idol industry.

So, that's in school festivals. I imagine it to be more watered down in schools. But how about actual maid cafes?

It is actually possible for them to work in one.

Since you have IdolM@ster in your favorites, I'll just have to assume that you are telling the truth here.

forgive me if im wrong, but are you blaming the (victim) idols instead of the sick ugly bastards who exploited them..? if that's what you get out of that, then that's kinda messed up... honestly though idol culture is so toxic, and these fans who demand "purity" like that are a huge part of the problem too.

It depends on what you mean by "allowed". It's not illegal, but many school forbid students to have jobs. They can't actually stop them doing it, but they can suspend or expel them. Some are stricter than others. They have some kind of old-fashioned prejudice against teenagers doing this:

They have yet to realize that this is not longer the Edo Period, but the Pedo Period.
On the other hand, jobs of the maid type are the exception not the rule, and most kids will get much more normal jobs. It's only that convenience store girls are a very niche and specialized fetish and don't sell as well as maids in the media.

Oh, I'm not blaming the idols. While I would like to say that they do indeed hold some amount of responsibility, the thing is that it's often young kids with big dreams that are lured into contracts, which they are then trapped in. The "fans" are a problem, but they are a different problem entirely.

Yup they can! But most prefectures have laws around how many hours a highschooler can work and if they school believes their job to be inappropriate, they can ask the student to quit or outright expell them. I doubt they would do that for a Maid Cafe though. It's just a Cafe where the girls have a very specific uniform. The customer base is pretty broad and a lot of families and young women tend to go there so theyre not as pervy as media makes them out to be
