I don't think it was that bad, but it was meh, if the studio would have announced a second season with this special episode, it would have been an awesome intermediary between s1 and s2, sadly, this is what we'll get, nothing more

As an episode, it was on par with the rest of the series, but as a finale, it was horrible.

I just need a film or second season announcement to think that this episode was great xD otherwise... In some way I liked it, they closed things BUT it wasn't a good ending at all, it left various points in the air and this whole thing with Frill. IF it was to end like this then I would feel sad for this anime, for me, it was a MARVEL but with this ending it lost that title😔
(I will keep the score of a 9/10 for the main series/12 episodes but for this "final" episode...)

This was very clearly a bad and blatant setup for season 2. It didn't actually resolve much of anything and just provided more mystery for the inevitable second season they're probably hoping for

Agreed, episode 13 could be a perfect bridge leading to a second season but god only knows if a sequel will ever materialize or there's even any interest in producing it.

Yeah, this is probably the most Evangelion-esque thing I've seen in a very long time. How I feel about this episode will very much depend on if there is a follow on movie or second season or something. If there's a sequel, I'm going to remember this as a neat cliffhanger. If not, It'll probably go down as one of the all time worst finales I've ever seen.

If i see it as an intermediary i still don't like it, like how they dropped the "yeah, that girl was just a robot i made, and also, i came back from the dead for some reason" and how the emotional scene where rika cried for mannen alongside Ai was just a photo jpg with 2 drawings far away from the camera. This episode is clearly worst than the rest of the series even if it's not the end. And if we base the possibility of a continuation based on how well receive this is, then i don't have high hopes
