I feel like the manga is easier to catch up to cause you can read at your own pace.

Depends if you're into marathoning or not but to be honest there's probably plenty of episodes you could end up skipping/fast forwarding due to the sheer amount of fillers in some arcs, namely large parts of Punk Hazard for example.

I'd say if you watch it 3-4 hours a day everyday you'll catch up to current day in about 3 months, otherwise probably a 1-2 years if you mix in other anime.

The anime will obviously take a while, but with the manga, it shouldn't take that long. The manga is better anyway.
A dude I knew caught up to the OP anime in 16 days. You can do it too, if u give up on your private life and human needs that is lol.
Don't worry about the length and time it's gonna cost, just enjoy the journey, the story and the characters. Take it easy and don't pay much attention to the episode count.

Also, Jojo has about the same chapter count. The entirety of the manga took me exactly 2 weeks to read.
It's not impossible to catch up to something so long very fast.

Manga for One Piece is typically 3-4 times faster

For me the manga took me 3 months
- 1 hour per day, about 12 or so chapters a day

For the anime (currently watching) I'm expecting 9 months
- 3-4 episodes a day and skipping filler

edit:
I couldn't get into the anime at first no matter how much I tried
(pacing, voice acting, animation, cartoonish quirkiness to it was hard to stomach for me a new watcher for anime in general). However, I loved the manga immediately and easily loved the anime after. So both I think honestly are two different experiences and shouldn't be missed out on.

So of course, if you really must choose one or the other, you can't go wrong either way I think.

My personal recommendation or best way: is the manga (easy to get into, faster too!),
and if you love One Piece and crave more, the anime afterwards you can watch at your leisure without caring for pacing because you know what's gonna happen anyways
I'm still wondering if it's ok to read half the manga and from there I just continue with the anime.

I agree with you, my brother also watched 400 episodes in 2 weeks. The most I can do in 2 weeks is like 60 at most. Cause I have school and stuff.

I started on Feb 22 and I’m on ep740 but I’m a fast watcher and I put the filler ep on 2x speed since there pretty boring Imo. I started binging around the 50-90 episode mark. Somewhere there I don’t remember

Solving such a problem is quite trivial - one has to set up two simultaneous equations and solve for the estimated time to watch up to the anime or manga chapters.

Graphically, for the anime, using a linear trend as an approximation for the number of episodes coming out and how many episodes you watch per week:

the objective is to find the intersection of the two lines. It can be shown that

Time to catch up (weeks) = (#episodes out so far - #episodes watched so far) / (#episodes/week you watch - #episodes/week coming out)

however the proof is left as an exercise for the reader.

It depends how invested you get into the story. I'm at the fisherman island arc. I was watching the show on and off over the years but when I got to the marineford arc I watched like 20 episodes in one day. Im taking a break again though to watch other stuff.

It really depends but between 8 months to 1 year I think (took me 8 months but I was on vacation and online high school during that time so I would watch like 10 every day), we´re talking about 950+ episodes here so it´s normal

I'm caught up to both the anime and manga.

The anime took me a few months and the manga took a few weeks.

If you assumed you was working and/or had a social life

you would have about 4 hours a day to watch anime - let's assume you used ALL of that on just One Piece

Currently, the series is at 966 so it would take just over 241 days to watch the entire series

BUT WAIT

in those 241 or so days you'll have a further 34 episodes to catch up with - that would add a further 8.6 days of watching which means roughly it will take you....
