Honestly, I can't express anymore here than I have already. Rui gave up because of an inferiority complex. If not for the accident, he would have married Rui instead. Given his back and forth here, it's more like he's talking himself into believing it was love instead of some kind of guilt. Hina is a consolation prize.

For a series like this, it's not the end, but the journey to get there. Sasuga could have made a few changes, maybe pushed another 10-15 chapters or so to rework the ending, still have it be Hina, but leave us all with a satisfying ending.

Instead, it was this badly written dreck. If I'm being honest, in nearly 25 years of anime and manga consumption, this is the worst ending I've run across. Normally it takes a lot of work to make garbage like this, but this comes off more as accidentally lazy. Well done. "Slow clap" Well done.

I was in disbelief. It just didn't make sense, the manga felt like it was reaching its natural conclusion. In journeys of this length, it becomes apparent to a reader what the natural course of events should be after a certain point.
Natsuo and Rui were just perfect together, they waited for each other to become the best possible version of themselves and then they reunited with marriage and a baby. The conclusion is natural, and there should be no way characters that feel so real, so alive, can just change so abruptly, without the time to actually think things through. If they spend 2.5 years together and are planning on marrying, there is no way their reaction to the traumatic event that happened to Hina is breaking up, let alone Natsuo falling in love with Hina again for who knows what reason.

Sasuga kei played god, a petty god, and that is just so painful.

I agree in a lot of ways here. 100+ chapters of character development thrown out the window and instead have the characters betray themselves.

That said, I would have been fine with a Hina X Natsuo ending had Sasuga Kei earned the narrative to make it work. Keep that real feeling going. Maybe Rui gets hurt in the accident and loses the baby rather than Hina going into a multiple years long coma. Maybe that devestating loss makes it too hard for Rui to say around Natsuo. Maybe she still loves him but the conflict of pain ultimately separates them and she goes back to New York. Maybe she finds grief support and finds a new relationship in the process.

Maybe Hina's there for Natsuo as he writes through his pain - the last grief was for Togen, this time it's for himself. Maybe Hina is there to comfort and heal him. Maybe they develop that real and organic relationship we felt with Natsuo and Rui.

I'm just saying that if I can come up with a better conclusion that I believe is more satisfying, I wounder why Sasuga couldn't.

This was roundabout and the author made her wish to be with Fuji-kun so goddamn hard, like she's his first crush, she's the sweetest person most understanding, beautiful, caring human being sasuga kei has written and yet he makes her suffer and suffer over and over again just to give her such a half-assed ending not even one that's worth it, it felt like she got the leftover after everyone realized everything, even then at some points they kept feeling like it's not a big deal, fuck how I hate how this manga manipulated me and played with my emotions like a toy, fyi I fucking cried my eyeballs out I thought she died in the accident, and when she was in permanent coma state, I was thinking of dropping the manga as whole, until hope emerged thank god, why did this had to happen, fuck me if I know what goes in an author's mind.
