Most famous(at least,in my perspective)was FATE/STAY NIGHT,it's combined all three routes in it's game(though main is saber's route),though fortunately,it's later UBW just made one route
And some other anime adaptation by VN,always combine multiple routes, made it plot confuse(since most anime just have 12 episodes). So i wonder why they did that?they could just make one route.12 episodes to build a good story with multiple routes is impossible thing

"it's not like the baka gaijin will ever read the superior visual novel" - tanaka san from studio deen

its also good to give service to fans of all the girls not just main girl which is usually also worst girl (see: shuffle, koichoko)

The only downside to shuffle is best girl didn’t win

I think combining different routes can work to the point of them getting lovey-dovey or having sex.. If routes are less sex, and just their "friendly" relationship or solving a problem together, or some other stuff like that - bonding with different people can exist in the same anime, I don't see problems with that..

VN adaptations with many routes, though, sometimes feel incomplete.. There is emotional satisfaction in VN, when you imagine you'll continue life with that person and stuff at the end of their route.. It feels more believable, maybe.. And when in anime you're invested so much for every character, it's harder to believe in life like this and that you'll be able to spend fair time with everyone.. Also, anime usually avoids the very endings of the routes, because they usually contain dedication to one person, and if you're trying to combine many routes - it's not something you can show.. Or anime chops something else from this topic of dedication..

Vn adaptations are garbage

Just play the Vn so you can get the whole story and chose your favorite girl

Agree with your most point.I just wondering why them make garbage when them actually have methods to avoid it(Like topic said.trying to just focus on one route)

Isn't it because most anime nowadays are commercials? So they wanna give potential new players a taste of what is to offer (all around) and give the anime only people a taste of everything?

Because VNs and certain games don't have the narrative limitations of anime. However, I think there was one dating sim adaption that "rebooted" several times. Amagami?

Also, things like UBW are not standalone stories. It relies heavily on characterization and info from the Fate route, and HF uses both. Same thing happens in Tsukihime. Then there is the Clannad case with the "collectibles", which requires many routes.

Cause usually they only have 1 season to adapt the VN, so they try to incorporate as much content as they can

Actually, Yosuga no Sora portrays multiple routes in just 12 episodes, and does so very effectively.

Meanwhile, from what I've heard, the adaptation of Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm actually discards the idea of romance routes and instead makes a good solid sports anime out of it, and also in 12 episodes.

You're welcome!

Do note that Yosuga no Sora is sexually explicit, but given that you're hanging around VNs, that's probably not something you mind too much. But yes, it definitely does have multiple alternate endings, branching paths included. (And there's even an omake which references one more route, but it's not portrayed seriously like the others.)

As for Four Rhythm, I've seen the show but not read the VN, and I think it works great at what it is, so I was actually surprised to realize that it is based on a multi-route romance VN, since having seen the anime I'm not sure where the romance would even fit because the story works so well without it (in my opinion at least).

But yeah, these are examples of two other approaches.
